Friends of murder victim also claim police harassment

The Chris Galvez murder remains unresolved and the family has maintained there’s been a cover up. Aside from the alleged harassment of the minors on Wednesday night, there were other incidents that have allegedly taken place against friends of Galvez: the latest on Tuesday night was against an eighteen year old.  The friend, who did not want to reveal his face on camera, told us that the bruises he is sporting are the result of a police assault.  We also spoke with his mother and will show the medico legal form which certifies that he suffered facial injuries.  Two other friends who were present said that they have also been harassed by police since Galvez was murdered.

“I mi deh pan Orange Street going to Albert Street round Battlefield Park, alone pan my bicycle when di gold police patrol truck come side ah me and holla come we wah ker you fi profile.  When dehn reach, dehn usually ker you from thru di front right, dehn ker me straight thru di back, handcuff me before I come out ah di vehicle and ker me straight eena di women’s cell sake ah lotta people mi deh eena di man cell.  When dehn ker me thru di woman cell, di shorter police stay outside while di taller one hold my handcuff and ker me and ask me “Soh you dah di one weh di sweat fever fi Galvez right?” I tell ah “No big man.”  Di man box me three times one spot.  And when ih done ih tell me “If ah see yoh again ih noh wah be like dat”.  An ih lose my handcuff and tell me “Whip out”.”

“Di day after my brother got murdered, I could call ah mi bredda cause dah wah close to mi, di day after that the police came through di alley and start to harass us.  I told them it was my friend bike, Galvez bike, ih pick di bike and just threw it over di fence.  When dehn threw it over the fence it land on the step burst one of my tire and damaged my sprocket.”

I di sweat fever fi everybody because dehn kinda thing deh noh right.  Wi have to stop corruption.  Wi have to tell Mr. Jeffries fi stop dis crime yoh have to start from eena di office yoh know because dis noh di help.  Dehn have to stop because nuff policeman eena lot ah thing.”

Although unimpressed by the way the Police Department has treated her nephew’s murder, Yolanda Schakron told us that on Friday her family will file a formal complaint about the incident against the two twelve year olds.
