Veteran reporter retires from the media

Jacqueline Godwin

Here is the face of one of Belize’s longest serving media workers.  Whether it was her knack for journalism or her anchoring skills, Jacqueline Godwin, formerly Jacqueline Woods is saying goodbye to the field.  Yes, the veteran journalist is bidding farewell to journalism!  To pay tribute to this longstanding reporter and anchor woman, News Five brings back some of the moments in which Jackie was at her best.  Marion Ali does the honors.

Marion Ali, Reporting

She started out in 1984 at the tender age of twenty at the now defunct Radio Belize, where she produced and voiced the children’s programmes “Funworld and Children’s Corner”.  Jackie was also one of the first Belizean anchorwomen, starting out at the then Channel Three in the early nineties.

Her career blossomed when she came to Channel Five in 1995 and she remained her for five years.  After a one year hiatus she returned to our newsroom and that would be the longest period she would remain with us until 2007.  But whether you’re an avid Channel Five or Channel Seven viewer, the name Jackie Woods or simply Jackie is commonplace for almost every Belizean household.

Whether it was crime or children, politics or the environment, Jackie brought it to you.  And to prove that journalism was really her forte, year after year she made us proud, winning award after coveted award in regional and international competitions. Many of these still adorn the display case in the lobby of Channel Five’s new headquarters on Coney Drive.

Today was Jackie’s last day as a media worker and news anchor.  And for the twenty five years of work that she has invested, we hope it has been an inspiration for some young and budding reporter to join the remaining scant number or journalists. Jackie is married to retired US Army officer, Tony Godwin and they have two sons.

So long Jackie, and best wishes in your future endeavors, from all of us here at News Five.
