Three freed of murder on a technicality in Corozal
And this news just in from the north. Three Corozal residents were today acquitted of murder charges following the bludgeoning of an elderly Belizean American in San Andres Village in June of 2007. Brothers Noel and Rosendo Guy along with their cousin Federico Caballero reappeared before Justice Herbert Lord following an adjournment last Friday. In that session Justice Lord ruled that caution statements taken from the three accused men were obtained forcibly and therefore could not be admitted as evidence. This afternoon Crown Counsel Trienia Young presented her argument before the court despite not being able to use the statements. The accounts of the incident given by the trio were all conflicting and could not be used in the case because Yolanda Guy, mother of one of the accused, testified that she witnessed police officers beating Noel during questioning. On June twenty-fourth 2007 eighty-one year old Harry Duesbury was hit repeatedly in the face and body with a baseball bat, which led to his death. Rosendo was defended in court by attorney Leo Bradley Jr. while Federico Caballero was represented by Kevin Arthurs. Noel appeared in the company of attorney Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley. All three men were freed of the charge however Noel remains in custody on firearm related charges.

No justice. Free to kill again. Lets hope it is none of ‘our family’ this time.
No one is safe in belize, not from the criminals nor the police..
A gross miscarriage of justice! A great tragedy has taken place and no-one has been called to account for it. The police/prosecution have let another three go free in what can only be termed a ghastly blunder on their part! Shame!
Too many cases being lost by the prosecution. When the gov’t recognize the need to train the police force to investigate and reprt accurately.
I just can’t comprehend this, the UK and USA gov’t IS WILLING TO OFFER TRAINING…..!!1
What a shame! A country with beautiful grounds, wonderful fellow Belizeans and NO JUSTICE!
The gentleman’s name was Harry and he was a Belizean British citizen!! Apparently he was stabbed repeatedly in his chest while he was held down and being bludgeoned to death. All for a few dollars. One of the young men allegedly involved was someone that Mr Duesbury had spent years mentoring and taking care of. It was rumoured that these 3 men showed up in the village park freshly showered around 06:30AM and asked someone if they knew Mr Duesbury had died. Of interest is the fact that he was only discovered by his wife some time later. Our Police lack discipline and basic respect for human rights. The DPP is probably incompetent and the Justice system in Belize is a disgrace and shambles. I am ashamed to say we are rotten to the core and until we exercise the courage to fix this problem it only gets worse. Maybe next time it will be you!
Sorry for the typo
it such a pity these guys got away, but not for too long believe me, this is my daily nursery rhyme
THEY SHOULD HANG THEM M… R..
Gosh!! Were has the peaceful Corozal gone? With the things happening recently, i am not feeling that same safety there was once here!!
