Philip Willoughby is dubbed Belize City Deputy Mayor

Philip Willoughby

Philip Willoughby

In other developments at City hall, there is a new deputy mayor for the City and guess who… it’s Philip Willoughby.  Willoughby beat Leila Peyrefitte who was aspiring to move up.  Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers called for voting on the matter since the term of Dion Leslie, the outgoing Deputy Mayor, comes to an end at the close of this month.  So to get back to the business at hand, Willoughby won by a vote of five to two.  Sounds like a low voter turnout right?  Well, it was.  Councillors Roger Espejo and Leslie himself only arrived in the country this afternoon after travelling on official business.  Councillor Eric Chang is away tying the knot and Councillor Laura Esquivel is away on maternity leave.

Maybe… Just maybe he will now dress like a professional. He can afford a white shirt and maybe a tie. Dress like you represent the people, and not just some bum off the street.

    they are a total waste.

Is this the best we can do? Willoughby might have a good heart, and is arguably a good councilor, but he´s definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer. But then, what does that say about the other councilors who voted to make him deputy?

CITCO has gone from grace to grass and now to Phillip Willoughby. For a guy who spent umpteen years at UB to attain a degree he has given UB a bad rep as a former student!

I strongly believe that Phillip did deserve the post of Deputy Mayor, he has done an excellent job and is basically the best candidate for that post. He has shown to be very responsible in comparison to past councilors and gives his face to the media, people and co-workers. I trust God will keep guiding him and that he will keep up the good job!!!
I was a clasemate of Philip during his years in UB and he was always an activist and very responsible. Keep up the good work Philip !!!
