Foreigners issued visas without following protocols

It’s a lucrative business that is the subject of an investigation and it has to do with the issuance of visas to nationals who require clearance and approval from the Director of Immigration. On a weekly basis, flights land at the Phillip International Airport loaded primarily with Chinese nationals who come to Belize in their bid to reach further north, to the US. The flights originate from Cuba, the largest island in the Caribbean, and on one such flight earlier this month, twenty one passengers who landed at the Phillip Goldson International Airport were sent back to Havana. Aside from the Chinese, the group comprised of Kenyans and Haitians who were promptly denied entry on arrival.  In respect of that flight the Immigration Department indicated to the media that the visas for the passengers were legitimate however; the proper procedures were completely disregarded.  It is alleged that the breakdown in the system occurred at Belize’s Embassy in Cuba and we can confirm that the head of mission is in the capital to answer questions on the number of visas that have not been cleared by Belmopan. Apparently the reference numbers attached to the visas do not correspond to those issued by the Immigration Department.  There is also word that most of the visa agents are from the west.

It is sad seeing how much Corruption there is within our Government. Come on.. issue visas to Chinese nationals without going through the proper prosedure.. I am sure some good cash was involved, and Honourable Said Badi Guerra would gladly answer all the questions that need to be answered concerning this matter.
I BELIVE WE GOT ENOUGH CHINESE IN BELIZE ALREADY ” all of them come to stay, not visit”
Said Badi Guerra : Ambassador to Belize in Cuba

Why is there such a great allowance of improper immigration into our country, we should be protecting and not destroying. We allow foreigners to destroy our land, safety and well being, bringing violence, greed and brutality to our HOME. Can we do the same in their country, can we do this in AMERICA, so why allow it in our “jewel” our “paradise”,. Remember Belizeans once it’s gone it can never come back and not in our life time. We were known as the pride of the Central America and Carribean. Now we are known as murder capital, an escape venue for Americas Most
Wanted, Rapers of land of sea. I end with this, would we or could we do this in their country?

Not very likely in the U.S.A. But I would
point out that only a very small number of criminals
run to Belize from the U.S.A. Send them back,
we’ll put them where they belong.
