Minor beaten by his girlfriend’s father

A prominent Belize City cardiologist is said to be embroiled in a huge scandal that has to do with the romantic relationship between his daughter and a high school student. It is not the type of story that would make the news, but it does because it involves a highly respected doctor. Since last week reports and photographs have been circulating that Dr. John Gough had allegedly violently beaten the son of another well known family. The motive for the violence appears to be Gough’s sixteen year old daughter. The victim’s family is searching for answers as to why the doctor got physical and violent. Carlos Zelaya Jr. reported to his parents that last Monday while leaving his girlfriend’s house on Park Avenue in Buttonwood Bay he was attacked by Gough, who was aided by a neighbor. According to Carlos Sr., a police report was filed last Friday but authorities are yet to act on the matter.

“My son went over to Dr. John Gough’s residence to visit Dr. John Gough’s daughter; it’s his girlfriend. He went to visit and leaving the residence, from what I understood, John Gough and his neighbor hunted down my son, tracked him down and met up with my son eight to nine blocks away from the residence and John Gough and his neighbor beat up my son and that‘s what I understood at this point.”

“What was the extent of the injuries and why would Dr. Gough want to hit on your son?”

“That has me very puzzled why he would want to beat up on my son and the extent of the damages he got really hurt in both eyes, he fractured his neck and he is really hurting with lots of pains to his head.”

“Have you taken any action against Dr. Gough for what has happened to your son?”
Carlos Zelaya Sr.
“My son has reported to the incident and made his statement to the Police Department and at this point there has been no action taken. And I want to know why no action has been taken and I’d like to send out a message please help us in this situation. The Police Department please do your work.”

“Since the report has been filed and no action has been taken thus far, what other are measures are you looking at?”

“Well it seems like since no action is being taken, I don’t know if it’s a political thing being it’s the Gough family. I really don’t know what it is. I really, I have a lot of questions to myself. What happened here? I need some answers myself.”

“From one parent to another did you approach Dr. Gough to find out what happened at any point in time?”
Carlos Zelaya Sr.
“After Dr. Gough beat up on my son he called me to his office at the Belize Medical Associates and he explained to me that he had a problem with my son but I had not seen my son at that point. And he just said he had a problem with my son and I said what’s the problem and he said well he was at my residence and we went down the street and him and his neighbor and he said that Dr. John Gough and his neighbor beat him up.”
Yea, don´t expect much action if any will be taken by the police against the Gough family. It´s like how the saying goes…”dah noh who yo kno… dah who kno u”. These prominent , wealthy well known families in Belize have connections in high places….so you already know that nothing will come of this incident.
There has to be consequences for such actions. This man must be criminally charged. His reputation or family’s reputation cannot exempt him from the law. If those who uphold the law cannot enforce it, then they too are breaking the law.

christine your right. the girl let him in, my question is. if the so called neighbor isn’t a bad informer. maybe hatred. if they’ve been romantic for 2 yrs. come on nothig unusuall for the kid to stop by. unless the so neighbor dislike the kid and u know informers do. he also should be charged for aggravated assault, child abuse and be dealt acording to the law. but we know here in Belize that ” money talks bullshit walks” am i right people?
Need to make a poster with Dr Gough face advertising Corporal Punishment. I am a mother of 3 and they are mine to discipline . Just goes to show you the more educated you are the more of an …. you can be. It should have been my child I would tear Dr Gough …. he would need to seek professional help.
seriously people, like RG said they are TWO sides to the story…this one obviously will b filled with info from the Zelaya side, now have you heard the side of Dr. Gough..how would you be so sure that the kid Carlos didn’t make all this story up! Stop judging if you don’t know the facts…
the only way TWO sides of a story can work, is if Dr. Gough himself has some bruises on his skin and was defending himself from attack. Violence is never justifiable, especially if you are doing that to someone younger than you. Flip the sides and had it been Dr. Gough, hailstorms and thunder would have fallen from the sky! We all know there is no real justice in this world, but they can buy their way out of these things for now, but their money is worthless to God who is the only one to exact vengeance! Leave them be!
he should be charge, you cannot put ur hands on somebody ells, especially beat him up,but i bet, they will not do that doctor nothing because he is a doctor, the law in belize is so unfair. yes she is only 16 but the boy could have been walking the girl home then left? an ofcourse the doctor got the wrong idea and took out his frustration out on the boy, justice should be done, don,t care if he is a highly paid doctor, he needs to kno wath he did is wrong?

There are 3 sides to any story, your side, my side and the truth. If Zelaya comitted a crime, Dr Gough should have called the police. No one has the right to execute punishment freely.

The authorities need to seriously look into the matter and lets get directly to the point here.
Teenage Sex. Whether we want to admit it or not it is a problem in our society and Im pretty sure that if he stole something Mr. Gough would have called the police so lets call it what it is.
to ME and RG….NOTHING that boy may have done could ever justify the beating that he got from TWO GROWN MEN!! I hate to sound this ignorant, but I hope he suffers the consequences of his actions one way or the other!!!!
See the problem is the boy seems to be a good kid from a well known family, but if it was an OG family from the hood Mr. Gough would be in some trouble
