Investigation underway into beating of teen by girlfriend’s dad

In an update to a story we ran on Wednesday on the beating of sixteen year old Carlos Zelaya Jr. News Five understands that the police department has still not brought any charges against the person accused of beating the student. According to Carlos Zelaya Sr., on the day complaint was filed police told him that if he proceeded to press charges on Dr. John Gough his son would also be charged with burglary. The family says it is awaiting the outcome of a police investigation into the matter to determine if any legal action will be taken. Dr. Gough is said to currently be out of the country and is scheduled to return next week. Carlos Zelaya Jr. was allegedly beaten by Dr. John Gough who was aided by a next door neighbor who said he had seen the young man jumping his back fence. Zelaya’s parents say that he has been dating Gough’s daughter for the past two years.
this is so ridiculous how can he be a burgler if he was dating the daughter for two years,they are making excuses parent do not let them get away they knew exactly who the kid was and do not let them make treats to you they need to be held responsible for their actions.

Interesting. I think this is the same child from Holy Redeemer School that Channel 5 interviewed in 2005 among other standard three kids who wrote stories based on their interpretation of the fable, “The Fox and the Crow.” (Check News 5’s archives.)

there are 3 sides to a story…both their sides and then there is the truth.Lets not be quick to judge.Suppose he got beat for abusing the man’s daughter?I would whop his … for that too.All i’m saying people…lets just wait till the man comes back in the country before we tarnish his good image.I know how we cruffy can be in the midst of being judgemental.

wow!! this is crap, if he committed a crime against the teenage, why did he even left the country. He is a doctor, who is held at a higher standard than the ordinary citizen, he is supposed to use his hands to heal people not cause harm to people. He should not be practicing medicine, I say suspend him from pacticing medicine, without pay, regardless of what this teenage did he has no right to put his hands on him. That why there are laws to protect citizen not for you to take it into your own hand. I saw arrest him the moment he gets back to Belize or better yet have them shipped his criminal a?? back from where ever he is at. Do not let this Dr. or his neighbor did goes unpunish for the wrong that they have committed against this teenager.
It’s a shame to see a grown HARDBACK man and the worst part is he’s a doctor to abuse a minor like that.He needs to be charge for his action,because there’s many other solutions than beating up a minor.A professional man put his self SO LOW doing this.He needs to RESIGN from being a doctor !!! SHAME ON HIM !!!
I highly doubt, that if Carlos had indeed done anything to hurt or rough up Dr Gough’s daughter, that no one would have copme forward with that in his defense by now! Dr Gough, regardless of the circumstances, should be ashamed to have taken it upon himself and his neighbor (two big, grown men) to put such a beating on a child. I really have to wonder what would have happened to that boy had that eye witness not seen what was happening shout out for them to stop. I hope that Dr. Gough pays for what he has done and that his political affiliation doesnt prevent that from happening! Justice should be for all citizens, not just the privilaged!!

Violence is any capacity is wrong. We are against the violence we hear about every day, on the streets of Belize. How is this any different? Just another person harming another.

two points to ponder 1. the girl is sixteen and the boy is fifteen, in the eyes of the law the boy is the minor 2. if convicted of this assault, the regulations set out by the medical council dictates that the doctor’s license to practice in Belize would be revoked, as a doctor can’t have a criminal record.
it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Son seem to be saying he got beat-up for dating a daughter, where is the real story here, where are the details?
I don’t know what you all are thinking, but I am sorry – If I tell you not to come to my house and mess with my daughter, especially when no one else is at home, and your still do it, then I will whip your behind. Plain and simple. I think many of you all have been “Americanized”.

From my observation I believe that the boyfriend was trying to burglaries the house and the neighbor caught him.The doctor’s only mistake was that he assaulted the boy the right thing was
to call the police ,but I could wrong it could have been a father having problems with his daughters choice for a boy friend hopefully its investigated without prejudice and the police prove to the public that they are not worthless as it seems.
well i wouldnt run to the defense of either of the two. the “child” isnt exactly any saint either. Try to take another point of view, say you´re the father of your 16 year old child who is the girlfriend of thios other 16 year old, and you come home one day to see her boyfriend sneaking out of the back from your house. If that boy was in her room, he obviously wasnt doing anything good in there, else there wouldnt be the need for the sneaking. In the whim of the moment, so many things could have come through his mind and the doctor, acting as an angry parent jumped quickly into the action he took. Honestly in his position as a father i would have felt the same way. However, up to a certain extent it is his fault that something like this occured. it is very likely that it isnt the first time the young man may have been sneaking around that house, and it is the doctors negligence to his responsibility to protect his home and family that allowed this young man to go about their mischeif. has anyone even began to think what carlitos was doing sneaking around? out of all the comments i´ve read (i haven´t read all) all the blame is all on Dr. Gough. like i said Carlos isnt a saint at all. not saying that he earned the beating, simply that such a dispute is not a thing of one alone instead of two.
