Ahmad Nah wakes up from coma

Two weeks ago the chances of nineteen year old Ahmad Nah surviving a near fatal pellet wound to the left side of his forehead were very, very slim.  Doctors had in fact informed his family that there was only a five percent likelihood that he would pull through.  While his road to full recovery is still a long one, Theodoro Nah is taking comfort that his son woke up from his comatose state and is already optimistic about returning home to Roaring Creek.

“At this time he hasn’t fully recovered as yet noh, but he looks very, very good.  The swelling of his brain went almost all the way down now so.”

“What are doctors telling you at this point with regards to his chances of full recovery?”

Theodoro Nah

“It will take a while because now we start the therapy process.”

“In terms of the therapy what are some of the activities that they have him going through to bring him back?”

Theodoro Nah

“Well what they will do, they will put him to walk.  That’s one of the main thing with him right now.”

“Is he conscious at this point?”

“He is conscious.”

“Have you been able to talk to him?  Does he recognize you when you visit him at the ICU?”

Theodoro Nah

“Yes he recognizes me.  We spoke.”

“What are some of the things that you as a parent have spoken to him since he has come out of coma?”

Theodoro Nah

“Well we talk about when he gets home what he wants to do and the first thing he asked about his bicycle if it’s still intact and I tell him ok I have that secured for him.  And he asked for his brother and sister and he said ‘dad whenever time I leave from here he would say dad take care’.”

“How do you feel at this point knowing that a couple days ago or a week or so ago this was completely gloomy a situation for you and to see your son at this point having came out of a coma?”

Theodoro Nah

“For me it’s a joy, I mean words cannot explain the way I feel to see him back again noh and that we will one day have our communication like before.”

“How does he feel?  Have you spoken to him about how he’s doing either emotionally, physically or mentally?”

Theodoro Nah

“Well he said physically he’s fine and that he is ready to get up and walk and go noh but I think he need a time that he can recuperate the way I feel like he’s fit to go.”

On February twenty-first the young man was shot accidentally with a pellet gun at close range by a minor in the village of Camalote.  He was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital and later transferred to the K.H.M.H. where he remained on life support after being declared brain dead.  The Nah family has since set up an account for Ahmad at Heritage Bank Ltd. for those who are interested in assisting the family financially.  The account number is 9211043.  Belmopan police are still investigating the incident but Theodoro Nah chose to defer comment on the matter.
