Abisai Canul
Another man who is out on bail is thirty year old Abisai Canul, the former cashier for the Insurance Corporation of Belize. According to ICB Financial controller, Abel Samos, Canul was fired on Friday, January eleventh and was instructed to hand over the cash he had collected for that day to the accountant. The following Monday, it was discovered that six thousand seven hundred and twenty dollars was missing from his cash pan. In further checks, the accountant found that another three thousand five hundred dollars was unaccounted for from January sixth. Samos says Canul admitted to stealing the monies and signed a promissory note agreeing to repay it. When no payment was made, the company took legal action and Canul was arrested. While Samos claims Canul confessed, he pleaded not guilty to two counts of Theft today. Magistrate Canul met his bail of five thousand dollars and his next court date is set for April thirtieth.
