Min of Health responds to lack of supplies at K.H.M.H.

Story PictureIt is has been a year of dutiful service by staff members and in recognition of their work, the Management of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital organized a ceremony last week to show gratitude to outstanding members with a perfect attendance record and in appreciation to those going on retirement. And while there were those employees who have given their all to the hospital, there are still many kinks in the system that patients of the hospital would like remedied. The staff was hosted to lunch by the Minister of Health Pablo Marin who responded to the concerns of staff and patients on the lack of supplies.

Pablo Marin, Minister of Health
“The first thing I did when I came. I went around the hospitals and saw the need of different stuff in Corozal and San Pedro, PG. We have already put an X-ray machine. That is one of my priorities. Orange Walk has an ultrasound machine. If you notice, I tendered the pharmaceutical supplies, which I’ve never done before. And for the next year I will try to see that all the hospitals are equipped with the essentials which is the x-ray machine and ultrasound.”

Jose Sanchez
“Now looking at the KHMH, from time to time people call us and complain that simple things like gauze and bandages are not available at this very important hospital. You have a new C.E.O., what are you all doing to address this problem?”

Pablo Marin
“You see whenever you change to a new system which, we did with supplies, the computerized system, people don’t put all the invoices in time. We don’t know the person who is supplying. It’s a little bit of chaos right now. In the central supplies we didn’t have any administrator; we have one already. Things will start to look much better for next year. We have all the supplies, the thing is the delivery at the right time wasn’t appropriate because of the new system we have implemented.”

Jose Sanchez
“So how soon will we be seeing these supplies getting here on time fort he people who need them?”

Pablo Marin
“Well I think that starting next year everything will start to run smooth.”
