Police seek Suzuki Vitara for answers in SSB robbery

social security boardThe Social Security Board was jacked just before the close of business on Monday afternoon. The heist, carried out by two armed gunmen who held up the SSB offices on Princess Margaret Drive, is still baffling the police. As News Five reported, the two culprits entered the building through a back door and approached two cashiers and demanded that they hand over the money.  The startled cashiers complied and the two assailants escaped through the same door they entered. The robbery was over in less than three minutes and was carried out with such precision that police say there is a possibility that it was an inside job. The amount in cash and cheques stolen has not been confirmed and today the Police Press Officer, Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood shared some interesting details with News Five.

Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

“They made good their escape in a Suzuki Vitara bearing license plates BZ-C 36066.  Presently we’re trying to track down that vehicle and hopefully if we find out who’s the owner of that maybe we could find who are the assailants in this robbery. They knew exactly where they should go and they executed their robbery in an almost perfect fashion. We wouldn’t want to reveal what the cameras have picked up about these culprits.  I would say that we have suspects in mind, we have suspects. Features of criminals are studied by different members of the Police Department, different sectors and at the end of the day no matter what you try to use to disguise yourself we have people that are trained to find certain features for certain criminals as long as these people are repeated offenders.  But at the end of the day we will see how far the surveillance videos can help us.”

“Cause you also have defense attorneys who will tell you like men look like men.”

Fitzroy Yearwood

“Yeah, men look alike, we also know that but at the end of the day we just want to know who orchestrated the crime. All I want to do is ask the public to be on the lookout for Social Security cheques and make sure that cheques that are coming to you are for the people that are bringing it to you for cash.  I would prefer to ask people, business establishments to refer these people to the banks.  Let them go to bank with the cheque.  The banks have a system to check on the validity of these cheques. We need the public on a whole and especially the security guards at these establishments to come on track.  They need to be more alert.  We need employees at these establishments like this one to be more alert.  If you have an exit to your building, keep it closed unless there is an emergency and that needs to be opened. It’s simple little mistakes and in this case I wouldn’t say it was a mistake because all indications are that it was intentionally left open.”

The police are also looking at the surveillance video and are asking for help from the public to crack this crime.
