Senator Godwin Hulse abstains from voting
Senator Godwin Hulse who represents the business community chose not to participate in the vote. He, however, shared a different perspective on the passage of the three bills.
Godwin Hulse, Senator
“The greater concern that I’ve had with all of this and all three bills together is as always my position is government’s transparency. And while there is nothing really untoward or cynical about these changes they’ve happened before. I think what we always have to be cognizant in the country is when government raises loans by any instrument or any mechanism it increases a charge on the consolidated funds. It increases government’s debt and that is what we want—it increases the public debt—and that is what we’ve always want to have a handle on to make sure that those monies are properly utilized. I have always maintained there is nothing wrong in borrowing you know, please, and from the sources you’re borrowing. It needs to be managed properly, there needs to be prudence in such borrowing and there needs to be approval of the people’s representatives for such borrowing so that we can be sure and certain that the money is properly utilized.”
At Monday’s House meeting, the Opposition expressed concerns over the three bills saying they will give government access to money it can’t afford.
Now is the time for the self-proclaim “Saviour” of the soul of Belize to stand up and speak out. This budget and the ligitimize jacking of the banking system is a crime against all things Belizean .
