Police officer killed by fellow cop on La Isla Bonita

Gavin Sanchez

Gavin Sanchez

La Isla Bonita is Belize’s top tourist destination. This week, tourism stakeholders addressed the rising crime. Less than twenty-four hours had elapsed when gunshots rang out in the silent of the night. It was not one of the usual shootings and news spread quickly to the mainland that a sergeant had shot and killed a police corporal. It started over a domestic dispute and it ended fatally for Corporal Gavin Sanchez. News Five’s Jose Sanchez headed to La Isla Bonita where he found the islanders and police in shock.

Jose Sanchez

“The quiet and peace on La Isla Bonita was interrupted this morning when a barrage of gunshots rang out across the island. An officer shot and killed Corporal Gavin Sanchez. The man detained for the shooting is Sergeant Paulino Reyes. Believe it or not, the scene of the crime is the San Pedro Police Formation.”

Jose Sanchez, Reporting

Candy Garbutt was locked up in a cell when the shooting occurred after three am.

Voice of:  Candy Garbutt, Heard Gunshots

“I heard like gunshots and when I started to heard the gunshots it sounded like ten of them first and then it stopped.  But I didn’t pay it any mind cause I know that we are in the station and I wasn’t expecting that it was something like that taking place.  It sounded like pop shots but the amount that I heard threw me off.  I didn’t think it was gunshots.  I think it was pop shots.”

Jose Sanchezgavin sanchez 2

“Were you surprised to find out that it was two officers involved?”

Voice of Candy Garbutt

“Yes, very surprised.  It’s a shock.”

Jose Sanchez

“Did you see any of these officers prior to your detention?”

Voice of Candy Garbutt

“Yes, I saw Mr. Sanchez.  He was talking to me when I was detained, asking me if I didn’t get my bail yet.  I needed to come out.  He’s a good officer.”

Miguel Segura

Miguel Segura

Miguel Segura, Assistant Commissioner of Police

“As a result of gunshots being heard, Corporal Romero and PC Trevor Roberts visited the area of the police station, namely, where the police barracks is located.  There they observed Sergeant Paulino Reyes standing at the entrance of the room bleeding profusely from his head, along with two B.D.F. soldiers.  Further observations revealed the body of a male person later identified as Corporal Gavin Sanchez lying in a pool of blood on the hall of the barrack room with gunshot wounds to his face, arm and feet.  The deceased was also wearing a white bullet proof vest.”

Before the shooting occurred, the night started at Wet Willies, a popular pier bar.

ACP Miguel Segura

“At about eleven forty five pm on Wednesday, March 17th Sergeant Reyes was working special duty at Wet Willy’s nightclub on the beachfront when his attention was drawn to two B.D.F. and a police officer having an altercation with a person identified as Cpl Gavin Sanchez.  At about twelve midnight Sergeant Reyes escorted Sanchez outside the premises with the assistance of the B.D.F. and PC Jeffrey Martinez of the San Pedro Police Station.  He was later escorted the San Pedro Police Station.”

Apparently another officer and his wife were engaged in an argument at Wet Willies.  Corporal Sanchez, who was seen drinking by several bystanders, intervened in that spousal argument. But his behavior became unruly and that was when Sergeant Reyes had him removed from the club with the intention to be detained at the Police Station.

Ruben Gomez, Bartender, Wet Willies

“Usually when the sarg come in the sarg just come in, do ih job, patrol round, watch round see dat no trouble noh happen.  Di man come in, stay pan wah lee corner, mek sure everything stay cool fi di night.  I know di man noh drink pan ih job.  Ih come in, respect everybody.”

Jose Sanchez

“And last night it was the same thing, he was keeping law and order?”

Ruben Gomez

“Same thing, same routine.”

Manuel Heredia, Minister of Tourism

“I have known Sergeant Reyes to be a very fair person and I would not like to say anything negative of a person that has died, but I have my reservations about that.”

ACP Miguel Segura

“While at the station Cpl Sanchez was behaving disorderly and even uttered threatening words that he will kill “dat bwai” in the presence of other officers at the station.  Subsequent entries were made by the other officers in the diary.  At about two thirty am, after the conclusion of the event at Wet Willy’s, Sergeant Reyes arrived at the police station and made entries in the station diary in regards to the incident at Wet Willy’s that he had with Cpl Sanchez, including the threats he received, that Sanchez would be waiting for him behind the station.  Sergeant Reyes along with two B.D.F. went to the barrack room where shortly thereafter those shots were heard being fired.”

James Magdaleno

James Magdaleno

James Magdaleno

“We have since recovered one nine mm shell, six slugs found on the hallway and the wall, one nine millimeter Luger pistol with serial number 30724966 and one magazine with two live nine mm rounds, one .45 Springfield brand pistol with five .45 live rounds and one magazine bearing serial number N 307216, one piece of aluminum measuring two feet by eleven and a half inches and two and a half inches in width, one white bullet proof vest found on the body of the deceased with one slug, bloodstains of tennis shoes of the victim, one tennis shoe impression on the room door for  Sergeant Reyes’s room.”

Outside the station a bag was found near a boat with a passport, application for vacation leave, a gun holster and a cartridge for an M16 rifle all belonging to Corporal Sanchez.

Jose Sanchez

“Does Corporal Sanchez have a license for having that ammunition?”

James Magdaleno

“At this point in time we can confirm that he was a license holder for a nine mm gun, the other ammunition, the M16 rounds is rounds normally issued to the military, also to officers of the SPU/ADU.  Some stations do have these types of weapons also but the investigation is still ongoing.”

Roland Parks, Free lance reporter

“If he was under arrest why wasn’t he put in a cell?”

James Magdaleno

“The police is investigating that internally, the Internal Affairs that something went wrong there because the Sergeant gave an instruction and the instruction was not carried out.  We have the internal affairs officer with us.”

ACP Miguel Segura

“For the internal affairs we also have the officer from the internal affairs department.  There are two investigations running parallel.  You have the criminal investigation, was the force used justified or not, and then what our findings are from the time the incident started to the station leading to that event.  That file is being compiled and then submitted to the D.P.P.’s office.  Likewise the parallel investigation of internal affairs is to look, is there any discrepancies in the aspect of the ammunition, the detention and where the chip will fall it will be dealt with.”

The body was transported by boat to the morgue in Belize City.  Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.

  1. E. M. Siddiqui says:

Based on the string of crimes and other significant events in Belize surrounding law and order coupled with the very poor performance of the Leadesrship of the country, it is obviously clear that the time is now for change. The poor performance of the Minister in charge of home affairs/law enforcement coupled with the now Commisioner of Police’ arrogance and inquitious behavior, it is a very clear signal that they both should resign or be replaced, in short fired.

  2. worried says:

Sanchez da wah chancey officer, they have wah bunch of dem who used ot chance man and shoot them too. he should have been removed from the force. he was not a policeman but a bad man wearing a badge. i’m glad a respectable officer did it, because if it was somone on the street, t ehy would have called it murder.

  3. Oscar69 says:

I agree with worried. Sanchez was not a good officer especially if you were hispanic or latino. There are many locals in San Pedro who can declare the unfair treatment that they have recieived from Sanchez. In the end they say you reap what you sow. Sadly this seems to be the case

  4. worried says:

You notice, Sanchez had a bag by the boat on the street side. in the bag a passport? for what an escape! then inside certificates? for what a job when he escapes? and vacation leave papers… and ammunition. he wanted to kill and escape. that’s a badman. i say give sergeant reyes a medal for saving his own life and the bdf/s life.

  5. Mellow Belizean says:

Wow, we’ve been hearing so much about alleged police misconduct and this blows it wide open. Just think, what would have happened if Sanchez had targeted a regular citizen like you or me? If Sergeant Reyes wasn’t an officer, and able to defend himself (and if not for the presence of the BDF), he would most likely be dead at this moment. From the reported facts we know, Sanchez had a bulletproof vest, extra gun, extra ammo, and plans to depart once the deed was done.

What chance would a regular citizen have against someone that armed and that determined? And what would make him threaten, then attack a fellow policeman? I mean, this guy was so far over the edge he didn’t hesitate to put on a vest and go after a senior officer. I don’t know if the department has looked into drug and/or alcohol abuse on the force but it would be worthwhile to see what’s causing cops to do some pretty bad things.

At the very least, NOW can Mr. Jeffries admit that not all police officers are angelic boy scouts?

  6. Revolution says:

It is said that if you live by the gun..you die by the gun! RIP PC Sanchez and may God give your family strength to throd on during this difficult period. It seems a bit obvious that Sanchez was nothing nice as a police officer and maybe did not belong in the Police Dep’t in the first place. However, I think it’s a sad thing when you have the top brass in the Police Dept not being able to comment on whether (9) nine shots were justifiable…including (3) three to the head. It is obvious that this cop was executed by his fellow officer. Interestingly enough, no shots were fired to the chest or stomach area, this is because Sergeant Reyes knew Sanchez had a vest on. As a senior, Reyes knew all he had to do was shoot this man in his legs or arms to restrain him if he was a threat. Furthermore, couldn’t Reyes had waited until the following day to discipline the unruly Sanchez rather than go and perhaps provoke an intoxicated man? The crime scene speaks loudly of the sergeant’s intent when he went to see Sanchez. It seems like these officers were feuding for some time as only a monster or murderer would shoot a man 3 times in the head and an additional 6 times in other areas. Sanchez may have well gotten what he deserved but hey…Reyes is nothing but a MURDERER. Let common sense which the police department lacks obviously….prevail in this investigation.

  7. Maud from Chicago says:

My Goodness! what is happening in Belize? why should anyone want to come there ? There was an alert by the state department not to go to Mexico, lots of killings, would that be the same for Belize?….

  8. drummy says:

It seems that alchole plays a roll in this incident. Too many times Police perform their duty in Bze under the influence of liquor. Drinking on the job should be a no no. Training needs to be more direct and up front. No drinking on the job period.

  9. Stephen swasey says:

Dead man carry no tails so let the police do their investigation as to me, something is wrong as that copra l was to be in detention as he threaten a superior officer. That look like it was plan as the Sargent was not to go and meet that drunken corporal. Those BDF are to be throughly interview and remove from the island also those officer should have been separated long time ago.

  10. reggie says:

wow the killing is reach home now.police killing each other what more can you ask for?Mr.Perdomo give up that position and take over education.Let the Rebel Minister Farber take over your post.from the way he dealt with the teacher.i think he is the one that can deal with the POLICE/BDF.it is sad to see a life lost but drastic things have to happen for us to get changes. If the GOB don;t move fast it will see the country like the wild west.everyman for them self and God for us all.

  11. BELIZEAN PRIDE says:

honeslty that’s a bad cop less on the streets. some should be delt with in cayo also. we need purity here please sergeant come to the wildwild west.

  12. BABY YOW says:

As an ex cop and ex BDF every individual goes through certain aspect of training the questions here are: what push the sergeant to act in such a manner? was his life threatened? what was Sanchez behavior towards his superior? As an ex serviceman of eight years–two in the Belize police dept and six years in the Belize Defense Force–an officer must act if his or her life is threaten that is the reason why they have justifiable force, but if the SGT life was not threatened there is a chain of command in both system the Defense Force and the Police Dept the SGT had all right to charge CPL Sanchez for whatever the problem it was. My biggest worries now if the police could kill each other how safe are the citizens?

  13. macal rivera says:

sorry but you cannot blame the government or the minister for this, this police officer obviously had a serious problem, the main to blame is the commisioner of police, cause it seems he knew all along the behavior of this officer and still alow him to to be part of the force, now see what happen, if I would have been in Reyes shoes I would have done the same, either or iether.

  14. JUST OBSERVING says:

Whatever the case is, if he was “chauncey” or not, he was still a human being..with 2 young babies! Now, they could have put him in a cell on lockdown…isnt that what they do to other troubled people, the way this seems, something smells “fishy”….why fire so much shots?….aren’t policemen trained for confrontational situations like this?…why not just do a warning shot?…especially if you were assisted by 2 BDF…did he actually fire any shot to the sarg, that would justify him for firing any?….and lastly…that part about finding a bag with passport and other documents just sound to me like a poor attempt to hide the truth about what actually happened!

  15. sarteneja says:

I personally think its time to denationalize the police and let the town council hire their own police force. If all the police were san pedranos then they would actually care about crime. As it it is most of the police are from the mainland and they just collect a paycheck and take half an hour to respond to the shooting and robbery at BCs which is less than a five minute walk from the police formation.

  16. BZNinCALI says:

Bad officer or not, our policemen cannot murder each. It is a job. Termination/firing is an option. When has murder become the only acceptable solution to every insult in Belize. Have we lost our minds & every ounce of common sense. I also read the Chanel 7 transcripts; are the rest of you Creoles comfortable with the ignorant statement made by Mn Heredia(Tourism). Many of us “UNDESRIEABLE CREOLES” have vacationed on San Pedro. Mr Heredia please look at your colleagues & tell us which of them are acceptable on “OUR ISLAND” or any other part of “OUR COUNTRY”?

  17. old beef says:

whenever a policeman name is called in a shooting it goes unsolved, they truly is sending a ugly message to the street killers,if they can give a police officer 10 shots why cant we too in the streets,i knew mr JEFFRIES got a red flag of some sort of this situation escallating,MY GOD NO MATTER WHAT NOT 9 TO 10 BULLETS,THESE ARE TRAINED OFFICERS I MEAN A (SEARGANT).MR PERDOMO ,MR JEFFRIES ,THIS IS REALLY REALLY BAD,YOU NEED TO PUT A SPECIAL TEAM TO STUDY YOUR OFFICERS WHO YOU HEAR IS ALWAYS DRUNK OR HAVE A LOT OF REPORTS COMING IN ON THEM ,ON OR OFF DUTY,BECAUSE A COP IS NEVER OFF DUTY.

  18. la_verdad30 says:

Porfavor nuevas leyes a Policias!

  19. stepson says:

Something about that story sounds fishy. The sad part is that the man is dead so you will never hear his side of the story. A police officer should know how to subdue a person effectively without having to kill them. I havent heard of any shots being fired at the Mr. Reyes so i dont think his life was in any danger. Besides, shouldnt he know better than to confront an intoxicated man. I wonder how the story will play out if it was Sanchez that killed Reyes

  20. Belizean says:

Anybody remember what happen to Denzel Washington in that movie “Training Day”
in the end the bad cop got what he deserved.

Personally I had runnings with snachez already as I was picked up and taken to Belizean Beach where he put a gun to my head and treated to kill me and informed me that nobody would find my body.

so i will end by say… give on to Ceser what is due onto Ceser.

  21. oscar says:

that is right… Sergeant Reyes is a fair man.. he had to save his life….

  22. Moses says:

Its a Shame for our country, Belize so small and full of crimes at all level but most of the blame should lie at Government leaders who posesses low skills in dealing with Society. In a whole the entire Government should be changed. Police officers needs a great deal of professional assistance from phiscology to counselling, they are just human being with a bunches of problems like me and you, and we still want them to help us solve our difficulties, when themselves can’t even help them self… como on.. Get some proffesional assistance for our Military Officers, help them with their concerns first, before they can help us..

  23. titonajarro says:

I have to disagree with the stepson, sometimes subduing another person may not be as easy as typing your mind on a blog. the sarge did what he did because years of training and experience thought him how to handle these situations. it is a public food because of the place and the people involved, should it had been one of us civilian it would be just another evening news. the sarge knew the bad egg and took no chances.

  24. A Shame Citizen says:

yes Sanchez wasn’t an angel but yes he was a human being. And yes Reyes was well aware of the fact that he was under the influence of alcohol. And I don’t think it was necessary to kill the man. I strongly believe it was a old beef. and who’s to blame the man in charged of San Pedro police dept. Where were him as usual always on leave he doesn’t take the time out to study his dept. Any ways I hope that just will be served here. Sanchez RIP. and to your kids and family my heart goes out to you and the good Lord will give strenght to deal with this.
    may God bless!

  25. worried in DC says:

I am suppose to visit San Pedro for the weekend next week. Been freezing my ass off in DC looking forward to this trip and then keep reading about crime in San Pedro., is it still safe??????

  26. Elgin says:

Why are we judging this dead guy?Even if this cop was chancy,it still doesn’t justify what the sgt did.

  27. belizeilove says:

i have to say that this is very unfortunate to happen no matter what someone’s behavior was or is all i have to say that if the sgt life was in danger, there were two other bdf personnel were there, me being a service member we are train to protect yourself this sound like an ambush one shot in the leg, or arm or let give he he shot him in the head the would reduce the treat for sure what is with the other 9 or 10 shot. i believe this would be that bad if he would have shot him once or twice in self defence but 10 THAT IS OVER KILL…………..

  28. Elgin says:

The Prime Minister needs to step up and stop all this stupidness. What up Belize ?You guys descended fan Cowboys or what?

  29. Elgin Martinez says:

All these things will continue to happen in Belize.untill the Priminister steps up.

  30. medo says:

It’s pretty fishy, alright! They expect us to believe that in order to restrain an unruly man, it was necessary to riddle his body with gunshots from head to toe? That’s not good judgment or necessary force; that’s an execution murder! According to the police report, “a few more shots were fired”, conveniently neglecting to mention that 3 shots alone were to the head. If Reyes had done his duty earlier in the evening by simply relieving the man of his weapon and locking him down for the night, there would have been no confrontation, no violence, and two little boys in Belize City would still today have a living father.

  31. Analista Belmopan says:

What would you have done? If you have been hit on the head with a metal and drop on the ground bleeding andhrting, then you see this violent, furious man throw down the metal and grab an M16 to fire at you to finish you off on the ground and the only means of saving your life is a gun on your side, then you shoot this man on his feet and he still does not retaliate nor drop down his firearm, what would you do? You are nervous, you are about to be shot with an M16, its a minute or seconds of life and death what would you do? You dont have time to think where you will aim or worst count how many shots you fire in this critical time, but you will regret everything after you have gone back to normal and you will not believe it what you have just done, kill a fellow, something that you would have never ever wanted to do! IYou have just put yourself in Sgt. Reyes shoes ts so sad! Rest in peace Sanchez and my sincere condolences to the family.

  32. Mystery guest says:

My thoughts about the incident are mixed. There are good cops and bad cops, which we all know but dont talk about. (This is all over the world not just Belize) This incident is waking up the island of San Pedro. With the police crashing the only vechicle they have and have to rely on a golf cart for transport is insane! The San pedranos need to be in control of there own police department, this is not Belize City. The people of the island should trust the police department not be scared to even pass by it or even scared to make a police report. The police are outnumbered by criminals. The fact is they are hurting this country. Who is in charge? The law or money? The fact that the country is so small makes this big news, but really this is a micro way of looking at crime compared to bigger cities around the world. No one deserves to die, that is what the bible says. i do not feel safe anywhere on this island. And the BDF officer who looses his firearm and extorts fishermen, with a cop out of the San Pedro police Station about a month ago. (Dont even get me on this subject, how do you lose a machine gun?) The problem of Belize and San pedro is the George Street and the coruption of government officials all the way to the top. Everything in this country is, ” How much?” Everyone takes off the top. It’s GREED!!! The people of San Pedro need to come together and the town council needs to get off there lazy asses and get something done ASAP!!!! The expression the dog wags the tail, the tail doesn’t wag the dog. People of San Pedro we are the dog, and the police are the tail. The police work for us, we dont work for them!!!! It seems as if the people of San Pedro work for the police, when in fact they need to protect and serve the people. If the people of San Pedro dont come together to fix this issue, it will only get worse. They need to get every gang member off this Island, and every corrupt governement offical and send them back to Belize City!!!!!! People of San Pedro come together and let the numbers of citizens speak against the issue. We will not tolerate this anymore, or we should take the law into our own hands?

  33. Alvira Clark says:

DID SOMEONE FORGET TO PUT ON THIER BLACK MASK?

  34. bznabroad says:

you are not better than another just because they drink alcohol. you may also have your demons that eats you up each and every day. So the corporal decided to take a drink and at the same time discuss ‘hustle and claim’ similiar to gangbangers and territory, drug dealers and street rights. The sergeant would not allow it and wont allow a drunk like the corporal to get in on the game or his ‘hustle and claim’ and given this opportunity, the corporal’s state, he set out and murdered a fellow officer. You as a sergeant, knows the rules of engagement but never cared. You could have been drinking yourself or maybe you are a cowardice, who got setup by those racist ones on the island who are also to blame for their rampant involvement in police affairs and decision making.

  35. Elgin Martinez says:

I believe that this specific sgt had some difference with this officer Sanchez .

  36. oscar says:

I think Sgt. Reyes did the right thing, this is a case of extreme provocation. Lots of belizean people will say a lot of negative things about Paulino only because he’s hispanic. I know Mr. Reyes as a very dedicated, humble and respectful police officer, I am sorry to know that this had to happen to him. We must realize that easy river run deep. I’m proud of him and wish him the best….

  37. cat dog says:

granted; from some reports it seems like Sanchez was a rogue cop. however, the way he was executed leaves some unanswered questions. if he had all these firearms and weapons why did he choose to attack someone he threatened to kill with a metal pipe rather than with one of the high powered guns he allegedly had? as a trained officer, why did Reyes pump nine slugs into a drunken man? three into his head? come on; something is truely fishy and since dead men carry no tales, it is now up to the two BDF to now be honest and tell the truth and the whole truth. but then again that might be expecting too much of them. anyhow, Jah seeth and knoweth all things and he is TRUE!!!!!!!

  38. maddyvandijk says:

So Gavin Sanchez was a crooked cop from day one, Miguel Segura, Assistant Commissioner, Manuel Heredia, Minister of Tourism and other Police officers knew about his bad conduct, yet no one did anything about this cop.
Then the ridiculous story goes on to say that Sergeant Reyes along with two B.D.F. Sanchez went to the barrack room where shortly thereafter shots were heard being fired.”
Question: Were Sanchez detained in that barrack room, while wearing a bullet proof vest and carrying a gun? Was he waiting for you in that room with his?
And if you arrested him then why did you not do a search on him at the moment of arrest or at the station for weapons or drugs, could you not have avoided this situation if you did take his gun away, license or not?
Did you Reyes and the two BDF soldiers go into the barrack room alone, or along with Sanchez?
Why were you the only one hit with bullets while the BDF escaped the bullets after the three of you entered the same room together?
And the most important question is this, why were Sanchez wearing a bullet proof vest?
The report said that Outside the station a bag was found near a boat with a passport, application for vacation leave, a gun holster and a cartridge for an M16 rifle all belonging to Corporal Sanchez. So if he was put in a room or a cell right away, when did he get a chance to go outside get his gun from near the boat and get back inside the station without anyone’s knowledge?
Why would he leave these things outside when he did not have any intentions of getting arrested that night, or being at the station that night. This whole story is one big lie created by Reyes, and the two BDF, or Sanchez was one dirty cop with intentions to do bad things that evening.

Dead man tells no tale, end of this story.

  39. LAW & ORDER???? ¿¿REALLY?? says:

After reading about all the crimes taking place in our little country Belize, it very sad and depressing. but it also confirms, other news where i’ve read that our police force has a group of ‘Belize’s finest’ that are killing off people, then disposing properly of evidence. Can our belizeans smell corruption? not only is our Government corrupted but also is our unprofessional police men. I know not the character of Cor. Gavin Sanchez, but what is the message we’re sending, that if he is a bad cop, the only justification or way to resolve the situation is DEATH. When did we turn God? then we wonder why crime is on the rising…. from the news, the evidence i gathered is that both these individuals had an MO. The accused or officer in question/under investigation could have handled or took control of the situation by detaining the deceased, in my opinion, he should be ashamed, as he is a Senior on the force… he seemed as if though he was out to geto get the deceased, this was his chance, on the other side, the deceased, had his bag packed n was ready to escape. we dont know what kind of mental stress Cor. Sanchez was under, there may have been lots of problems leading up to him being intoxicated and getting himself in trouble, so they both had motives. I, however, still think that his death should be investigated to the fullest. why would you shoot an intoxicated man in the head not once but 3x’s…. is that what they’re teaching PO’s in training???? take for instance that customs officer who lost his life as well, yes maybe, he fell out the pan of the truck, but do you think the police care, my point is that he too was intoxicated, incoherent and they’re(the police), restraints are a joke. They’re incompetent, lacking professionalism as policeofficers to deal with ornery individuals or violent situations. Bottom line, our force needs a complete makeover, because they cannot handle their own neither can they handle criminals on the street. DO I HEAR HOUSE CLEANING

  40. LAW & ORDER???? ¿¿REALLY?? says:

bad police man or not… what message are u sending? it okay to shoot down our men because they’re bad policemen, ok, well given that, that is the case, lets shoot them all down, because i dont think not one of them better than the other… thats the reason Belize’s news full of crimes, the justice system is a joke. the robbers and drug dealers get sent to prison but the murders walk, WHY? there’s always insufficent evidence, or the evidence is inadmissable, or hear say doesnt count…. LAUGH OUT LOAD…. ignorance….ignorance. Come on people…. think… corrupted police force, uh! oh! corrupted government…..

  41. Mercy says:

Its a real tragic and sad incident that has happened with both of the policemem. On behalf of Sanchez because of the loss and pain for the family RIP Sanchez. And on behalf of sergeant Reyes it is so regretful because he would have never wanted to kill him or anyone, the situation in which he was faced at that moment of life and death is something that not even himself can explain how it happened because it is a critical moment where your body or mind is not yours worst when he got hit on his head and was bleeding and the blood went in his eyes, obviosly he was shaken, nervous, maybe unconscious and that may explain as to why he let go 9 bullets. I am not a phsychologist but if you put some common sense together and put yourself in his shoes you would understand.

  42. Mercy says:

Everybody reacts in different ways when faced in a life and death situation, nerves is a very serious system. Worst when Sgt Reyes was anticipating threats to his own life from ahead of time. I can speak by experience that I have had and seen other people too. One day I remember that My cousin and I were walking in Belize City and there came a creole male man running behind us and he snatch my cousin purse. My reaction was too bawl out loud and couldn’t stop, because the man push me down to the ground on my and my air came out. But my cousin’s reaction was the opposite, she stay mute and paralyzed she couldn’t move nor talk a word. On another ocassion, I had an accident on a bus where the driver, a teacher and a student died, I dont remember hearing the crash, I didnt feel any pain, yet i was walking but I dont remember anything. I still wonder how was I walking If my mind was not functioning I dont recall. This could have been the same reaction that Sgt Reyes had he does not even remember shooting.

  43. UNHAPPY says:

something tells me that what Reyes did was not only a decision of his own as he was very brave in doing what he has done viciously and knew he was not going to be charge. Everyone can see that the story does not add up but higher ranks are not doing anything about it. I only hope that when their turn comes that they can handle it as we all know that every DOG and I use the term so loosely “has HIS own day”

  44. POETIC JUSTICE says:

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH REVOLUTION. THERE WERE MANY OTHER WAYS OF SOLVING WHATEVER MISUNDERSTANDING THEY HAD. REYES COULD HAVE AVOIDED CONFRONTING SANCHEZ IF HE KNEW HE WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL. WHAT DID HE WANTED TO PROVE? HE WAS A HERO?HE SAVED THE COMMUNITY FROM A CORRUPTED COP? I HAVE HEARD MANY PRAISES FOR REYES, HE IS EVEN WANTED IN THE WILD WEST. WHO IS HE NOW?GOD?REGARDLESS OF OUR IMPERFECTIONS, WE ARE ALL HUMANS AND WE ARE NOT THE ONES TO DECIDE HOW SOMEONE’S LIFE SHOULD END. ALL OF YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE PRAISING SANCHEZ FOR WHAT HE DID, WOULD YOU LOVE TO BE SHOT SO MANY TIMES AND LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONES BEHIND? SANCHEZ MAY HAVE BEEN BAD AS HOW HOW HE IS DESCRIBED; BUT WHO IS REYES? WE ALL HAVE A SKELETON HIDDEN INSIDE US. THE TRUTH IS THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO HEAR SANCHEZ’S SIDE OF THE STORY. REYES IS NO MATTER WHAT A MURDERER AND AT THE END THIS CASE WILL BE……… UNSOLVED!!!!!!!!!!

  45. reuben says:

Police should start using tazers, its not deadly but can knock down even a horse, this is the best way to subdue a person.
