Government reacquiring squatters’ land for agriculture
In Belmopan, Cabinet met in regular session today and discussed a matter that has been on the airwaves since the beginning of the week. Three weeks ago News Five reported that thirty-eight families that had now taken up the land had been given the consent by a U.D.P. elected representative. The matter has been boiling over and now the portion of land in the Cotton Tree/Beaver Dam area at mile forty-two on the Western Highway will be taken over by government due to tax arrears by the current owners. Cabinet agreed that the thirteen hundred acres which belongs to several Taiwanese owners will be reacquired by the government for agricultural purposes. Cabinet also agreed that a subdivision plan would be prepared by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment and that persons interested in acquiring a parcel of land in the subdivision should apply directly to the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment. The Cabinet release said that any person who was squatting on the land should cease and desist from making any new clearings.
If real born belizean were to squat on private property they would be removed by force and their houses destroyed. Look at what happen to the indigenous mayan people right around belmopan. But these are second class of belizean and most of them are still immigrants and see how they are being treated. I hope each and every belizean open their eyes. The are Representative ecourage these actions.

March 24, 2010 at 11:12 amWHY AREN’T WE AS BELIZEANS NOT ANGRY ABOUT WHAT HEREDIA HAS SAID. IT IS ETHNIC CLEANSING PEOPLE. BELIZEAN BLACK PEOPLE OF ALL ETNICITY – CREOLE AND GARIFUNA NEED TO STOP BEING TAKEN FOR A BUNCH OF FOOLS. YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN ACCEPTED IN ANY OF THOSE HISPANIC,MESTIZO, SPANISH CONTROLLED PLACES. YOUR BLACK SKIN IS AN OFFENSE TO OTHER. YOU OWN NOTHING, CONTROL NOTHING AND IS GIVEN THE CRUMBS OFF EVERYONE’S TABLE. THE WHITE MAN HAS A BETTER CHANCE OF SUCCEEDING IN BELIZE THAN YOU DO BECAUSE OF THE PERCEPTION THAT ALL WHITE PEOPLE ARE GOOD, HONORABLE AND RICH. LET GO OF YOUR SLAVE MENTALITY AND START FIGHTING FOR WHAT IS YOURS. IMAGE I WENT TO CAYE CAULKER AND A WHITE WOMEN WHO IS NOT A NATIVE BELIZEAN TELLS ME TO GET OFF HER PIER. HOW CAN A GOVERNMENT PUP OR UDP GIVE AWAY SUCH LAND RIGHTS TO ANYONE, FOREIGN OR DOMESTIC. IN FEBRUARY I WAS ON THE BUS GOING TO COROZAL WHEN AN IMMIGRATION OFFICE OF HISPANCIS OR MESTIZO DECENT BORDER THE BUS. FIRST OFF HE SPOKE ONLY IN SPANISH AND SAYS HE CHECKING FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS; PASSED UP ALL THE WHITE TOURIST AND OR SPANISH PEOPLE ON THE BUS BUT WALK RIGHT UP THE THE BLACK YOUNG MAN ON THE BUS AND ASK HIM, “YOU DA FA YA” (ARE YOU FROM HERE) THE ANGRY YOUNG MAN SAYS “I DA WHA NATURAL BANN BELIZEAN (I’M A NATURAL BORN BELIZEAN). PEOPLE, PEOPLE, WAKE UP. THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS HAVE DISPLACED YOU IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY. THEY HAVE MORE LAND RIGHTS; THEY HAVE MORE HUMAN RIGHTS.
i’m a belizean mestizo from my roots in maya decent, but the way the immigrants have better chance than we pisses me off. same thing the mexican and central amreican are trying to do in u.s soon u.s will a central american populated country. send them home in guatemala or honduras i’m realy pisses off.
So true Bev, so true…………
I take offense when people talk about ethnic cleansing, I am a mestizo belizean by birth and the blacks of my country, Garifuna or Creole are my people and I think like them, i live like them and have the same ambitons and aspirations. We eat the same foods.. Why then do comments are made that further leads to ethnic divisions being tolerated? Let us fight for the right things and stop feeling sorry for ourselves and feel victims. If things no work fi we do not blame others for that is easy, blame ourselves and lets take actions to remedy situations.
I agree that our neigbours come to our country and capitalize on the resources we have, is that not a smart thing to do. We could do the same as born belizeans. No feel sorry fi wiself wi di home?
