Price of fuel at the pump continues to shoot up
The increase of twenty-five percent on GST will hit consumers on April first. And if you are bracing to now pay twelve point five percent in the sales tax, hold on because fuel prices have just gone up again. That’s despite a promise made by the government to keep prices below the seven dollar price line. Consumers enjoyed a short-lived plummet in prices at the pump in 2008; that was brief and they are now digging deeper and deeper into their pockets since fuel prices began increasing consistently since 2009. The first quarter of this year has seen three increases with the last hike occurring just twenty days ago. The most recent increase, however, was slipped in when most people were in deep slumber on Sunday last. Pumps now read nine dollars and seventy-four cents per gallon of premium, up forty-two cents from nine dollars and thirty-two cents; regular has increased by thirty-three cents to nine dollars forty-three cents per gallon. Diesel now costs eight dollars and fifty-one cents per gallon while kerosene stands at six dollars and thirty-six cents. Just to remind you that the PM did say this year was going to be the hardest for his government.
So far this Gov’t haven’t done one good thing for the people of Belize. To my mind they are just imitating the past Government and making things even worst for Belizeans. Everyday you get up you hear of some tax increase whether it be gas prices going up, butane, food, water, light and the list goes on. No wonder there are so many crime rates in Belize. There are a vast lack of jobs which cause the younger generation mind to stray – we all know the saying “and idle brain is the devil’s workshop”. This Gov’t have to do better than this mien. They just making things worst all the time. They dont have Belizeans backs but their own. Every time they get a break in office they mess up big time. They’ll never get into office again!
Arrogance, corruption, politics, bureaucracy, ignorance….should i go on…this seems to continue as the order of the day in the shrines in Belmopan, while poverty, hungry, crime, rape, all continue to be the order of the day in other parts of our nation. Barrow you say you could do the job…well hell…do it…or get out…
