Scotiabank ends work day with bomb threat
Just before news this evening a bomb threat was called in to Scotia Bank Albert Street Branch. Bank employees were already leaving work when someone called in a bomb threat. The bomb expert arrived on the scene shortly after and the threat turned out to be a prank. A thorough search of the building yielded nothing and according to BDF bomb expert Lt. Col. David Jones the threat was a hindrance to employees who were wrapping up their workday.
Lt. Col. David Jones, B.D.F. Bomb Expert
“Someone called in about five minutes past five this evening. The call was short; they just stated there is a bomb in the building, everyone needs to get out. They didn’t even give the person time to ask any questions. They just hung up and that was it. It seems to have been a female who made the call trying to disguise themselves as a male. Immediately after, the information was passed to the manager and they called the police who subsequently called me. So I came in, got the information from the person who received the call, spoke to the police officers, the security who was here and I did the clearance search of the building and there was nothing here.”

Don’t these businesses close at five or thereabout?
Lt. Col. David Jones
“Yeah, it’s interestingly close to business time closing, five o’clock; five minutes before they called. I don’t know what the person is trying to achieve, they just disrupted their business. It’s a waste of time. I don’t know what they’re trying to achieve.”
Previous bomb threats in Belize City were called in anonymously a few weeks ago to First Caribbean Bank in San Cas Plaza and Courts Belize on the Northern Highway.
It’s just pure ridculous and childish.
I take it Belize is not at that stage where they can pin point which telephone made that call. We need to get going the criminals are ahead so far.Someone needs to learn a very good lesson.
people need to get mature! lone kids are in this country ruling themselves by ignorance, greed and hatred.
I believe that each of us has the responsibility to do whatever they can to make their world a better place in which to live. For some people, the only real contribution they can make is being a menace to society and prey on the weak and vunerable. In terms of the problems of crime and prison overcrowding, most of the general public see themselves as victims of either crime, or of the system or nonparticipants in these problems. They see them as something which someone else should fix for them. I feel disgusted with the people who complain about these problems without offering any solutions, but, at the same time, I know that many of these people really don’t have the experience and background needed to produce a solution. Even if they have ideas for solutions, most people are unwilling to stick their neck out and take the risk of being derided by others, which they fear won’t agree with their views. Many don’t feel that anyone would listen to them and are unwilling to be enough of a nuisance to be listened to. We live in a society where the leftwing and rightwing have made it more easier for the criminal minded to roam around and commit henious crime. By bringing back corporal punishment, in the form of flogging, of those criminals who can still be salvaged; The expansion of the death penalty to include career violent criminals; and use the tax money which is saved to address problems such as educational deficiencies, substance abuse, and the like……Existing alternatives to prison have merit, but they fall short in being either real consequences to crime or being any deterrent. On the other hand, prison is an expensive breeding ground for criminal activity which is threatening to overwhelm the budgets of this land we call paradise. The current process and ways of punishing these criminals is not working and perhaps the government should enact more stricker laws and make so many of these criminal elements example of it. Some might consider the notion of whipping criminals absurd. What is absurb is that honest citizens are often virtual prisoners in their own homes, afraid of attack on the streets or burglary while they are away. What is absurb is that belizean of lower income neighborhoods must pay much higher prices to compensate for the thefts and robberies which stores in these neighborhoods experience. What is absurb is that hardened, violent criminals are either released to prey upon the public or that we as belizean have to spend enormous amounts of money to warehouse them. The government needs to enforce the death penalty and ignore these so call groups who are opposing the one thing that made the country safe many many yrs ago.
all of you guys cg, drummy and concerned are absolutely right. But there is one thing that we need to recognize about the situation in Belize. Tertiary education higher than an associate degree is very expensive relative to the availability of currency in the country, also the payment for a bachelors or any degree as of that matter generally sucks in Belize. So what you are finding that because the Gov does not put emphasis on education, the people don’t and also becuase education is not available the people remain poor and ignorant and decide to do mischeif to occupy their time.,
It is a sick cycle and everyone in Belize is to blame at the end of the day, because we need to stand up for what is right
