More confusion about Cotton Tree Lands
The land controversy at mile forty one on the Western Highway continues to garner attention. For the second Sunday in row, a group of Belizeans who either have interests or have already invested in developing the land, held a meeting to record names of everyone who wanted ownership of a parcel of the land. The land in question is said to be over thirteen hundred acres wide. It was originally named Capital Gardens by its Taiwanese owners, but the area is now called Valle Nuevo by the Guatemalan immigrants who have squatted on a portion of it. So on Sunday the group of Belizeans, led by one of the interested individuals, Nigel Petillo, took part in a meeting to organise themselves. Today Chairman of Cotton Tree Village, Florentino Baeza, told News Five that he supports the group.
Florentino Baeza, Chairman, Cotton Tree Village
“ Mr Petillo, I agree with what they’re doing.”
Marion Ali
Do you support the Belizeans and the Guatemalans wanting land and getting land there?
Florentino Baeza
“I wouldn’t say I disagree with the Guatemantecans once they have dehn papers right.”
Marion Ali
But nobody has papers right now because I noh question dehn soh dat dah di thing weh di happen deh right now and I di support dat issue. I support the Belizeans.
Marion Ali
Have you supported them by writing as the Chairman on their behalf to the government or to the Ministry.
Florentino Baeza
“No I never did but what they’re doing is a good thing. So if I have to write a letter to the Ministry then I will do so.”
Why is the government giving free land? The Government is broke.
don’t give land to guatemalans, give the bread to the belizeans first then leftovers to the guatemalans. try do the same in guatemala take land just like that and you’ll feel a bullet through your head. if you do give them then how will we win the case in quarrel they have over our jewel. we’ll have guatemalans helping them take over our jewel when we should be stopping them immediately and deport them. soon will have alot of guatemalan communities all over belize. can’t our goverment think for a while along with the area representative. start putting check point and send them home also. i hate this things and piss me off to the max.
@ Curious…the poor people in Belize are broke too, land is a birthright, we should all get a piece and pay toward ownership as well as pay taxes. Belizean Pride is right to say we can’t go to Guatemala and just take land and own the land like that… as many Belizeans as possible should be getting whatever land is available.
Whoever gets the land need to produce more food at an affordable price for Belizeans. We need to feed ourselves.
Belizean Pride: I agree with you, no way can you go to any country and claim land, especially Guatemala, or any Latin country. Also, has anybody heard about the “Trojan Horse”. remember that story from the bible? come on people wake up, take a look at Los Angeles California.
All i Have to SAy, IS ITS ABOUT TIME BELIZEANS STAND UP 4 SUMTHING THEY BELIEVE IN. 4 Way too long foreigners have been coming to BELIZE and Squatting first then getting Land titles after they multiply themselves…
I have jus filled out the form for my personal Acre also. Im 100% percent for this LAND to be given to the Belizean citizens.
a Farming community is what we need now though as in the next couple of years, jah knows how the food crises will be settling.
My 2005 song about this same topic. :
“AWAKE YOURSELVES” its amazing how words come to light now in this time.
“Awake yourselves & Take yourselves another piece of our society
we can only Make our selves or Break oursleves, tajing full resposibility.
VERSE: True the land is Power & a power weh we need
But yet them a giv it away for pur money, pure greed,
Pure percentage intrest, well that nuh intrest we
OUR LAND IS MORE PRECIOUS THAN THERE FOREIGN CURRENCY
So much wealth there is to B from Corozal to PG
Sumtimes i feel at home , im talking far back East
Peace to all a di youths dem ina di ghetto
then again mi Want PIECE a ALL A DI LAND WEH UNU A LEGGO…
AWAKE YOURSELVES & TAKE URSELVES ANOTHER PIECE A WEH JAH JAH GI WE..
PUUULLLLLL UUUUPPPPP.
Big ups to Nigel Petillo & the Whole RASTA FAMILY
The government is on their way to stealing back this piece of land from of its owner’s, and the people are on their way to steal land right from under the government nose, plus the rightful owners, this is a shame.
It is the birth right of every Belizean to own a piece of property in Belize, yet this is not a reality for many Belizeans today. Don’t hold your breath.
The Guatemantecans have been stealing land in Belize for many years, many of them illegal aliens and yet the government legalized them and gives them the land when they should have been deported and land taken away. This as undemocratic and that is a fair reaction to this electoral bull…. and is a lesson we all need to internalize.
But,
Who is to blame the government or the Guatemantecans?
Stop the crying and do something about it, you people choose the man who running Belize. You the people to blame, sometimes not everything you see from the out is good form the inside. Open your eyes Belizeans, you much smarter than the Prime Minister, wake up…Their pockets are full an you all are empty…..Come together as one and pick someone who is sincere to you and the country, not these men that taking your money and making Belize look like crop…WAAAKKKKKEEEE UPPPPP!!!!!!
Great thought Earl Grey!
Crispin Jeffries,
“If we are confronted or they are confronted, we will have to speak to people in the court system thereafter because they will be shot and killed when they are caught.
YOU ALL GETTING THE SENSE ? THIS IS THE COMMISIONER OF POLICE OF THE COUNTRY OF BELIZE,BELIZE C.A. IN 2010…..OUR COUNTRY HEADING TO THE DOGS PEOPLE….WAKE UP !!!!
First of all, Belizean Pride, under the Constitution of Belize, any Guatemalan that acquires Belizean Citizenship is no longer a Guatemalan. If these ex-Guatemalans form communities in Belize, they are legally Belizean communities.
It would be better for Belize if we dont even such racists comments about Guatemalans taking over Belize when it has been proven time after time that Guatemalans have no problem with Belizeans. Check the relationship between Benque and Melchor residents. Life is certainly better in Belize and its time for Belizeans to stand together and improve themselves. This access to farmland is a great start. And like Earl Grey stated, we as Belizeans need to start to farm to be self sufficient. In case you didnt know, we import so many vegetables from Mexico. Go to the Ministry of Agriculture and see how many permits to import vegies are approved.
Its time to stop hating on people who have made Belize their home and who are legally Belizeans once their citizenships are approved. Let immigration deal with those who dont have their papers straight. Look how the menonite people help each other in farming and how their community is so prosperous. Look at the Chinese. These people work hand in hand. That is why they are successful. They dont waste time hating on other people. They come and work. If Belize must continue its development its with hard work. Producing more and importing less.
Belizean, stand, work together and produce! Lets do what the helpless government cant do. Lets push Belize forward.
hey Belizean Pride! you are full of s…! ok how dare you can talk about guatemalan like that? don’t you see when we are really sick and belize ” hospitals can do nothing for you, where they go? tell me they go to guatemala ok for assistance, if you read on lables of many, many stuff, that are here , where they come from? huh? you stupid really don’t think with the head, the last time in benque a lady fell and broke her leg, do you think that any belizean gave her help when needed? no! shecould have died, she ask for help and everyone refuses to help her, then she went to guatemala consulate in benque and they immedately she got help, come on get some sens stop talking like that, the governments will take care of this problems, don’t open your stinky mouth if you are recis thats what you are, FYI the guatemalan really work hard to build up your own country, oh! as well if you only know how many belizean are studding in guatemala city, you would be surprize, and guatemalan people don’t treat them bad the way you talk about them come on! i am not a guatemalan but i hate the way you talk about them, you know why? a friend of mine got in accident, here in Bze, and he almost die ok ate KHMH, he got tranfer to guatemala city for assitance,, thank got he got treated well, and FYI the doctors there didn’t even know this people and you know what they did? they gave them the opportunity to pay them in whatever amount they could pay, and she a black person ok 100 % belizean, now tell me do you think that any hospitals here would do the same? huh?
What the hell is this? We are allowing Guatemalans that are schooled in the “Belice es nuestro” mentality to come to Belize and squat on land that we as Belizeans take years to get? Dont you realize that it is an invasion goin on? It may not be a military invasion, but systematically Guatemalans are placed inside Belize, slowly but surely upsetting the population demographics therefore changing the political climate of Belize and as a result permitting the Guatemalan government to influence Belizean affairs. I would definitely recommend that all of the them be deported back to their country before it is too late. Like Philip Goldson said “The time to save our country is now!!!!”
I agree with Belizean Pride
