Cayo accident claims the life of a mother and wife
Meanwhile, a woman lost her life on the highway also over the weekend. Forty-six year old Leticia Marva Garcia, a resident of Unitedville in the Cayo District, was in a vehicle that overturned in a traffic accident on the Western Highway. Reports are that around seven-thirty on Friday night a family of three including Garcia, her common-law husband Victor Moreno and their twelve year old son were traveling in a Ford Escort in the direction of the village. Upon reaching near mile sixty-five Moreno saw a Freightliner towhead driven by Hector Pech heading in the opposite direction. A grey Isuzu pickup driven at the time by twenty-three year old Rafael Caranza attempted to overtake the towhead. As a result both vehicles collided into each other causing the Escort to spin uncontrollably, hitting the towhead before overturning on its right side. Leticia Garcia sustained severe body injuries and died on the spot. Garcia’s common-law husband injured his right foot during the accident while Caranza suffered chest pains and an abrasion to the forehead. Garcia’s body now awaits a postmortem examination.
