Murder and Robbery of Scotia Bank, Spanish Lookout branch

murder3Five thieves hit a bank in Spanish Lookout today in one of the biggest and deadliest bank heists in recent times. They got away with a large sum of money during the armed hold-up, almost double the biggest amount won in the lotto.  Over three hundred thousand dollars was stolen in the robbery when the thieves zeroed in on the Scotiabank Spanish Lookout branch.  But what’s worse is that a security guard from Unitedville was killed in the robbery. He had just taken up duty after working the night at another location.  It’s a sad day for his pregnant wife whose baby is due any day now. News Five’s Marion Ali has the story.

Marion Ali Reporting,

Life will never be the same for twenty three year old Shaily Lopez, who lost her husband to gun violence today.  The murder happened just before eight-thirty this morning when five armed masked robbers entered the Scotiabank Spanish Lookout branch and forced the employees to open the bank’s vault where they stole a huge amount of cash.

In the process, they also robbed a customer of ten thousand dollars and shot the security guard, thirty two year old Stephen Lopez, who was deployed to the bank for the day.  Lopez was shot five times as he ran towards the adjacent Police Station but fell dead halfway between the two buildings.  One of the robbers was also shot by a police officer who heard the gunshots that killed Lopez.  But none of the robbers was apprehended.

Superintendent Paul Wade, O.C., San Ignacio

“ Eyewitnesses identified a shotgun and there were other guns as well.  That is being investigated.”

Marion Ali

“From the intelligence that you’ve picked up here, I know it’s preliminary still but might this have been a case of the perpetrators studying the movements of the employees, timing the hit being its approaching Easter?”

Superintendent Paul Wade

“The criminals are determined to carry out their act so we from the security forces have to continue our efforts.  It is difficult but we would like also to ask the general public who have any information at all to call us.”

This was not the first time that thieves had planned to carry out something of this magnitude in Spanish Lookout.

Allen Reimer, Chairperson, Spanish Lookout Community

“ The robbers took hostage somebody and took his vehicle, very very similar to what happened last Friday.  So far we believe it’s the same crew.  Last Friday it was a failed attempted.  This morning it worked. We want to be open to all possible customers and yet we want to screen them if we could but we definitely will be contemplating more what options we have and how we can implement them for the security of our customers.”

Lopez’ wife says that he was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first child, who is due at any time.

“ Everyday ih come home ih rub my belly and kiss mi belly.  He just talk about di baby, like he can’t wait fi see ah, how ih wah look, if ih wah favour he.  We just get married eena January.”

Stephen Lopez was working a double shift, according to his wife.  He had worked all night at the Belize Natural Energy where he is normally stationed but this morning, his security firm instructed him to report to the bank to fill in for another employee.  But Sheily says her husband sensed that something bad was about to happen.

Shaily Lopez

“ Before he gone yesterday he seh babe I know something wah happen and dat dah all ih tell me and I never want question ah caz I noh want think dat something mi wah happen to ah.  But he mi know something mi wah happen dah dat bank because deh always put only one security deh and starting last week deh put two security deh.”

Superintendent Paul Wade

“ The workers were pretty shook up and the community here is very supportive of our Police Department.  They’ve given us all the support that they can.”

Marion Ali

Do you have any leads at this moment?

Superintendent Paul Wade

“We’re working on the case and I don’t think it is prudent to release whatever leads we have right now but we’re working very hard.”

San Ignacio police are now reviewing video images which the bank’s surveillance camera captured.  They are also looking for the getaway vehicle with help from a private chopper over and around Spanish Lookout.

Superintendent Paul Wade

“ We are looking for a vehicle that has been identified as a white Suzuki sidekick.  From the bank the getaway vehicle left for the right of the bank towards the area that leads to the Valley of Peace Road.”

After the robbery and murder the bank put up this sign to inform that it will be closed until the police investigation is completed.  Marion Ali for News Five.

Belize is becoming the wild west.Yet UDP wants to cut the police budget.Crime is not a red or blue issue..this affects everyone.Everyone is affraid to report anything even if they do see anything, because the same people will come back and kill them. When will the GOB invest in DNA labs, and change the process for convicting people. When will the hang man come back? The GOB can’t run from this crime problem forever.Things will only get worse without GOB’s help.Every person must carry a gun on a daily basis just for protection. Its a shame that a bank was being protected by a security guard without a gun to defend himself.Shame on Scotia Bank..the same bank of the Prime Minister!!

  2. BELIZEAN PRIDE says:

i always go there to do transactions but my concerns is always seeing a single security with a baton only and no gun. come on this place is close to bush and mountains. easy get away access to any robbery. hope the security firm compensate this young mom to be. it hurts to see a hard working person killed by some sensless lazy s.o.bs that cause a child never to see his/her dad in life. wish they kill them all regardless if they are under age as sometime happens. it’s time to take things seriously. you kill make them kill you publicly so crime will end.

  3. Zig Zag says:

Hold on BELIZE…i’ll b there to rescue…I believe in EQUAL RIGHTS N’ JUSTICE 4 ALLL!!!

  4. gen says:

you know why all this killing keep going on. the people in high places does’nt care because it is not there family or there friends, but until it hit home they will see what all these family losing love one are going through

  5. star says:

two things that really bother me! HOW IN THE HELL WOULD A BANK NOT HAVE AN ARMED GUARD? IN THIS CRIME RIDDEN TIMES!! The Bank should be sued!

Secondly, why would a security company send a guard who just worked at full night shift to work a day shift? What kind of security would they offer? The guard is sleepy, tired, not 100% alert etc….

  6. tania says:

I AM REALLLLLLYYYYYY SHOCKED!!!!!!!! HOW IN D WORLD WILL A SECURITY COMPANY NOT GIVE A WORKER A FIREARM WHEN WORKING AT A BANK WHERE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ARE BEING HANDELED????????? I KNO MONEY DOES NOT COMPENSATE ANYONE FOR THE LIFE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM BUT IT SURE CAN HELP THE YOUNG MOTHER-TO-BE, I’M SOOOOO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS! MAY GOD BLESS YOU!

  7. ar says:

    Cmon people..
There’s something we should do with this government. We voted them to just sit on their a**es and do nothing for the poeple of this country. as how Jon said when is the hang man coming back>>> they should hang all those criminals in jail, the government just keeps them their for a 2 day honeymoon and releases them the other day no matter how serious their crime was… whoo’s with me????

  8. Oscar 965 says:

My condolences to Shailey the mom to be. Shame on you Scotia Bank!!! In order to SAVE A FEW DOLLARS you, Scotia Bank have indirectly caused a hard working young man to be murdered. A security guard with a gun cost much more than one with a baton. I wonder if Scotia Bank will compensate the mom to be? I wonder if I will see armed security guards at the Scotia Banks from now on. I have an account at Scotia but if they dont put armed guards, compensate and apologize publicly to all those killed, i plan to move my business elswhere. Shame on you Scotia..for not having the sense to properly guard your place of business…

  9. EL GUARDIAN says:

How can you cut the Police budget at a time like this. What you need to cut is the amount of time Sedi Elrington gets on a plane in a first class seat to chat NONSENSE!!!!

  10. CEO says:

That was way too much money to be kept at a small branch like that. We need to move from a cash society to more electronic transfer of money.

Sad but if the security was unarmed this is just an exercises in stupidity. If the Menonite religeon does not allow weapons then they need to start doing the security themselves.

I have suspicions: 1) Banks do not announce how much money was taken in a robbery all in a effort to discourage future robberies. So why did they come so readily and make this anouncement especially considering the amount taken? 2) How could these guys just disappear after this robery. If one was shot isn’t there a trail of blood to follow?

I would check some locals right there in the Menonite community. They are not all peace loving saints back there now!

  11. Maddy vandijk says:

Sorry that man had to die the way he did, a man doing nothing but an honest job for his family.
Even if he had a gun he was outnumbered by five criminals that were out to kill and commit arm robbery at any cost.
What banks need now are security cameras, more security guards armed and ready.

everyone is a potential victim in belize..

  12. jose says:

Other non-sense issue’s are being disputed and contest in Court like over taking people fundamental Land rights, rather than taking crime issues by the horns and implement the DNA labs and further Hang them if found guilty of murder. The wasting of Tax payers money on these other matter’s are just another form of “Legal” corruption.
Further to note is bona-fide statement of Mrs. Zenaida Moya when she said “somebody do not has the ball’s “, meaning this Government need to take Crime issues seriously.

  13. Norris Smith says:

I agree with you AR and Jon, when is the hang man coming back,? you people hang a woman that was being abuse by her man some years ago, what is stopping you now from hanging these criminals that is killing innocent hard working citizens, of such a beautiful country, that’s right this was once a beautiful place to be, what happen? This country cannot adopt the american way of life, it is not working in america what makes the GOB think it will work in Belize. It dose’nt work people, wake up. And, as for the government it does not matter which party you vote in, UDP/PUP the corruption continues, we need a new party to run this country, one who cares about their citizens and not about filling their pockets.

  14. macal rivera says:

this is not about government, this is about individuals who choose to commit this kind of henious act against innocent person, imagine they were in a SUZUKI SIDEKICK, this people are not really poor and starving, they just naturally bad, they did’nt have to kill this innocent young man WORKING HARD to provide for his wife and unborn child, this is just crazy, what I blame government for is that they are taking too long to HANG this AMINALS. My prayers and sympathy goes to the young widow, take heart sister Jesus promise never to leave us or forsaken us, he will take care of your precious baby and you, and he will also take care of those aminals that killed your husband, cause he say VENGEANCE IS MINE!

  15. Islander says:

Give thanks to GUN CONTROL advocates…they are of the belief that if no one is allowed to carry guns “not even the security guard” inside their gun free zones it will all be safe and dandy…. THIS IS THE RATIONAL THAT THIS GUN CONTROL PEOPLE USE… Sadly it cost someone’s life… “lets not forget the manager on that “gun free island” off Belize city a couple months back too”

Why do you think all this crazy shootings in other countries usually happen in so called “gun free zones” . HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A SHOOTING SPREE AT A GUN SHOW?

It is very sad how this whole Gun Control has gotten us into this mess…ASK ANY OLD BELIZEAN, back in the day you go to the hardware store buy your gun take it to the Police station and give them your serial number CRIME WAS LOW back then…Now attempt to get a gun legally and the hassle is not worth it, plus legal guns cost upwards of three thousand dollars thanks to ridiculous import duties while a criminal can get an illegal gun of similar quality on the street for a couple hundred bucks and go about his rampage….

Way to go GUN CONTROL advocates thank you for making Belize a safe heaven, pity is that its only a safe heaven for criminals who prey on defenseless Belizeans…

  16. Ingris says:

what are going to do Mr. Prime Minister, stop talk talk do something take actions if perdomo can’t do it replace him NOW before someone else another of your kids is gun down,

  17. Better Belize says:

First of all, my condolences to the family of the security guard killed in the robbery. Belizeans are affected directly and indirectly by all this wave of violence and crime.

Scotia bank need to provide guns for their security. Scotia bank need to at least, TRY to compensate the family because the wife of the murder victim is dead and who will be there to assist the child when he/she borns??? We Belizeans will be looking forwards to that and an apology from the Bank.

IF not, I encourage Belizeans to be more active to pressure government or institutions to be more responsible. Therefore, if ScotiaBank does not help the family and arm their security guard, then WE NEED TO BOYCOTT SCOTIA BANK…..A bank with security guards without guns encourage criminals to target them…..

There are limited resources available to fight crime. Therefore, I do not see why the government invest more in the Prison (Kolbe Foundation)…Criminals should be executed or people will start to take the crime issues in their own hands….

Then there we will emerge real “Dead Swats” . Criminals have an easy life in prison because they do not work and are given free food…..BELIZEANS, DO YOU THINK ITS FAIR WHEN ME AND YOU ARE OUT HERE WORKING HARD TO EARN A LIVING???

I call on the the PM & GOB, or SPEAR to conduct a survey if we should bring back “capital punishment”…….I don’t care about World Human Rights conventions? We have a local problem that is destroying the JEWEL…people are prisoners in their own home, investors are afraid to invest in Belize because of the crime, soon enough we will see the US Embassy discouraging their citizens to be tourist in Belize….

Mr. Dean Barrow, when will you act??? only when someone from your family is targeted because u are all millionaire??? Please hear the cry of the Belizean people?

  18. Al says:

This is what happens when politicians only look to line their own pockets and fail to build up the infrasctructure of the country. Belize is like the land that time forgot, functioning in the same way it did 40 years ago, the only thing that is progressing is crime. It is time that Belizeans begin to elect forward thinkers who want real change. Stop voting the same old people who fail you time after time. Look for people who have some education. Listen to how some of your representatives speak, like “Boots”, the man cannot even make one decent queens english sentence. You get what you vote for, wake up. Your prison just now got leg irons to use for controlling prisoners, hello. Prisoners make complaints and the officers are wrong and the inmates are right, wake up, these peple are not in prison because they are choir boys. Bring back the death penalty, and see how the idiots squeal when it comes their turn to lay down their life. Wake up Government of Belize, start with your police department, stop forcing out the older officers who are more committed to law enforcement and hiring all these young kids who are a part of the street problem. I would like to hear some tough talk from Barrow and actions to back it up. You could become anothe Haiti. Maybe only a good strong disaster could cleanse the filth from Belize.

  19. Belizean Girl says:

And the GOB still wants to cut down the budget for the Ministry of National Security?! Hahaha! What kind of benefit will that bring to Belize? None. So much crime happening in our beautiful jewel and GOB does nothing. There are so many police officers and BDF. Send BDF countrywide. Have the police work for their salary rather than just sit down at the police station or ride out in the vehicle. Our streets need to be patrolled constantly. This doesn’t have to be done in vehicles or a motorcycle. The police and or BDF can patrol the streets walking in groups of 2 or 3, armed of course, not like the Scotiabank security who was unarmed. Sad about the way he died.

Look at Guatemala City for example, a city where crime prevails. Yet, the government has his police and troops patrolling the streets. Vigilance is tight. It doesn’t take away crime completely but helps to minimise and keep it in control. if a robbery or murder is taking place, shoot to kill. Who says they wouldn’t shoot you? From the moment someone engages in a robbery, they have the intention to kill you if you get in their way.

There are bullet proof vests, if the country doesn’t have, invest in it! But at least if they are patrolling, we will see somehting is being done. The GOB needs to do something, pronto! This is getting out of hands.

I agree with Better Belize’s comment! Capital punishment would be a good punishment for those killers out there. The moment they take away someone’s life, they lose their rights.

What is this that we hear the national security budget being cut down yet more money is allocated to the prison. That is nonsense! Prisoners are in there for a reason. They bring social instability, cause deaths, thief from others who work hard. Yet we still have to maintain and feed them while in prison! That I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH! I DON’T SEE WHY OUR TAXES WOULD BE USED TO SUPPORT THE PRISON BUT NOT DO SOMETHING TO COMBAT CRIME SO THEY DON’T END UP IN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!

  20. star says:

prison, hang them high! you people and your ignorance…prison is only the receptacle of society’s “unnormal”…why are people robbing? Killing? Raping?…MOST they are jobless, hungry and can bet most are drug addicts…..drug addicts don’t care about dying! they have no regard for life.

in addition, our police investigation system is old school, look at the actual conviction rate verses the crimes committed! someone is shot at least everyday! up until ending of 2009, only 5 people are serving life sentences, only 2 on death sentences! our problem is not prison, it’s the Police who can’t get their act together, there is no protection for witnesses, same police snitch on the witnesses!

  21. Empress says:

Sympathy to the mom to be I can feel your pain without a husband be your side when you need them the most especially the first unborn child. Scotia Bank is to blame everyday I go to bank here and I fear my life same way. they need to be charge for been cheap.

  22. Elgin Martinez says:

It is so unbelievable that in this present age and time when crime is escalating in Belize that these retards from Scotia Bank still refused to arm this guard. It’s sad that this young man life gone like that. And Make it worst this young man leave wah pregnant wife behind.I wish this young lady could sue the hell out of Scotia and the security company. In addition i hope you guys have some heart to support this young lady financialy for a period of time.I mean have wah account fi the lee baby and thing.

  23. Marcia says:

This is extremely sad I cannot imagine what Shailey Lopez is going through. I agree with all the comments about what the bank should have done to protect their workers but the crime is done therefore, what we should do as Belizean people is to come together form some kind of comittee and see how we can decrease the rate of crimes in Belize. We can start by investigating some of the people in power. Many times crimes like these have an inside companion might not be someone directly in the bank but people who are involeve in some way, the person or people who are supplying the weapons or get paid off by the assailant. I am not confirming this as a fact but what I am saying dont overlook anything. Together, as a nation we are strong people we can overcome much more than we think. If we come out in force and support each other a gang of few dozen cannot stop us.

  24. Elgin Martinez says:

First my deepest condolence goes to the Lopez family,However i need fi BUN FIRE pan then retards fan scotia Bank.Come on now retars in this present age and time with the escalating crime rate in Belize you guys had the audacity to send this young man out there unarmed. With all the millions you guys mean to tell me that you couldn’t even give this young man a weapon to protect his live and your assets.Even David had wah sling shot back ina the days. How do you think he protected himself from Goliat. It’s plain to be seen that our system cater for the criminal element why would you stop this young man from carrying a weapon to protect himself?Jakass Barrow you need to step to the plate. These criminals have take over our Jewel.

  25. wayne says:

condolences to the family!! we need a CHAVEZ OR A FIDEL to run this country!!we need A DEATH SQUAD TO CLEAN THE STREETS!!

  26. HARUTIE says:

did you hear in guatemala when the villagers tied the thieves and burnt them?? thats right we do need a death squad to clean up these thugs showing thiers ass (sagging)on the streets of this very beautiful country!!

  27. Elgin Martinez says:

Star:Most of what you said is true, however i disagree with the part of your statement where you said that the Police is the problem. The police is not the problem. The problem is our system. As you said look at the conviction rate.Crime has to escalate when the conviction rate is low.Just keep the fire burning star good thoughts.

  28. creole says:

good start to zig zag fu the training. We obviously cant depend on eye witnesses anymore, so we need really good DNA evidence, and strong well trained prosecuters. After conviction for first degree murder, then the convict should be put to death publicly. DNA and other similar evidence would also help in making sure we dont convict inocent people, as witnesses can lie. We should also declare marshall law and curfew for now.

  29. BELIZEAN CITIZEN says:

Pero le digo ala mujer, Grow your lovely son take good care of he love him and protect him.. May God Bless You!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sigue adelante

  30. Elgin Martinez says:

Our Country has a long way to go in solvin crimes.I would suggest that the Prime Minister invest in some of our Graduates.Send some of these youths to do some Computer Forensics course. It’s hard for me to believe that with the escalating crime rate in Belize that we’ve only got one Forensic Pathologies.Mario Estrada needs to upgrade his skills.Stop using those stoneage equipment Estrada.

  31. Stygian says:

My fellow Belizeans i completly understand the your outrage with the crimes that are occuring rececently but THE FACT REMAINS THAT IS ALL WE CAN DO ,VENT!!!!!!!!! NOTHING WILL BE DONE UNTIL THEY StART POPPING THEIR NECKS. CHANGE THE LAW AND START KILLING THE YOUTHS YOU ARE DOING THESE CRIMES. ONE POLICE SAID TO ME WE NEED TO BECOME VIGILANTIES.

  32. belizeit says:

It saddens me and irritates me to see what’s going on in Belize. My condolences go out to that poor lady and that little child. I agree the goevernment has a part to play but in my opinion its more than just the government but the whole authority system which includes the police, the judicial system and the government . We cannot exclude ourslves either because there are many others who are complices as well. First of all the government really needs to work on our police system with some good screaning and physical and ethical training. Many of those men are not even screaned before they are hired as police. Thats why many criminals get away because many of the police are corrupt criminals who have no idea what is right from wrong themselves who take some poco tiempo training and easily get in only to take advantage of their positions to get away and help other criminals. Apart from that the government needs to invest in forensics and investigators. How will you ever have evidence if you are not collecting any or dont have the proper means to? you are not even trying to. A witness protection is very important as well. witnesses are afraid to confess because the’re afraid for their lives. What bothers me the most however is seeing how lawyers defend criminals. Everytime they claim that there is insuffiecient evidence or the witnesses didnt show up. The fact is the lawyers and judges of Belize have one of the biggest parts to play. They know exactly what is going on but dont want things to improve because it’d cost them some bucks from their pockets. Lawyers dont want you to implement good forensics and witness protection. Why? because theyd lose big time from being paid by big corrupt elites and their mediocre advoactes that help circulate crime and easily get away. You think the big corrupt men and lawyers want us to improve? If the lawyers and governement were really concerned they’d have insufficient evidence to persecute people. insuffiecient eveidence is such a lame excuse. This is so constant you wonder why isnt there something being done to get sufficient evidence or something to help witnesses. Even if we’d have suficient evidence we need some good ethics because a few bucks can esalily influence our already corrupt society. I blame the judicail system more than anything else. They started it because they started to make criminals walk away starting witht the previous administartion and its corrupt leaders who walked away free from screwing up Belize and so now some copy cats are getting away as well because they think its ok and thus crime increased. It makes no sense to arrest someone and you can have as many evidence but if the law doesnt want to do anything you can pay yourself out walk and do as you please. SO BELIZEANS WE SHOULD PRESSURE THE GOVERNMENT AND LAWYERS AND JUDGES AND WHOLE JUDICIAL SYSTEM. In my opinion id believe that if the judicial judicial system gets intact with good ethical lawayers that really are their to defend the people and not their pockets then a change can come about adding the changes of the other sectors then we can come a far way. Also stop being complices, if you are one you are a criminal yourself. People also better stop watching foolish tv. tv is just mind control. Also gang violence makes no sense, gangsters are used as bait by the elites in which they have no idea, its the same idea as a suicide bomber. So people please be educated and keep God on your side. Howvever, it may take some time so its better to have your guns in the meantime. I have lots more to say but…. I just pray to God that things improve. Spread the positive energy around. May that guy r.i.p. and bless his family.

  33. Belizeanabroad says:

What is even more intolerable is the practice by Security firms of having their security officers do double duty. Security services require vigilance on the part of the attending officers – how in the world could someone who just came off an all-night shift be expected to go perform for another 8 hours? What are the labor officers in Belize doing? Shouldn’t this be something they look into? Besides that Belize is just the wild wild west – maybe the Prime Minister may want to appoint his selected attorney (i.e. the one who has been paid $1.4 million to date to fight the billionaire) to begin prosecuting some of the many criminals operating in and around Belize. For him there is no isse – he has 24Hr police presence at this residence and rides around in a $200,000 Toyota LandCruiser. Need we say more? Politics – its about oppression of the people!

  34. Redbwai says:

I agree with wayne and HARUTIE, we need something like a death squad indeed to clean up the streets. Someone in Belize should form a vigilante group made up of civilians so we could take matters into our own hands since the police and the government are incompetent. I would happily join such a group, just give me a weapon and i’ll lay them out one by one and besides, society won’t miss them anyways and it would be one less mouth to feed at the Hattiville prison. It may be harsh…but thats what it is coming down to…since the law won’t pop their necks…to hell with the human rights thing. There is only so much the people can endure….after that it’s gonna be outright caos. The bible says an eye for an eye.. so yea people will feel justified killing a few for the good of the majority.

  35. Liza says:

This is for Wayne: Belize already has death squads – one has just killed an unarmed guard. You can move to Cuba if you like Fidel that much. So far Belize has chosen to remain a democracy, the best of all bad political situations.

  36. CHRIST'S KID says:

EVERY DAY I GO TO THIS SITE AND READ THE NEWS—-IT SADDENS ME TO NO END. BUT IT IS NOT AT ALL SURPRISING. I CARRY IN MY HEART MEMORIES OF WHAT USED TO BE—-BELIZE, THE BEAUTIFUL JEWEL OF OURS, NOW, TOTALLY DEPRAVED.

THE BIBLE TELLS US THAT WICKEDNESS WOULD BECOME WORSE AND WORSE–SIGNS OF THE END OF THE AGE WHERE MANY WOULD FALL AWAY AND LEAVE THEIR “FIRST LOVE”—THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. BELIZE NEEDS TO WAKE UP AND SEE FROM WHENCE SHE HAS FALLEN AND RETURN TO RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND TO THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SAVE HER. THE REMNANT OF CHRIST’S BODY NEEDS TO BECOME ENGAGED IN SERIOUS SPIRITUAL WARFARE AND TEAR DOWN THE STRONGHOLDS THAT HAVE OUR BELOVED COUNTRY IN ITS GRIPS.

REPENT AND LOOK ONCE AGAIN TO JESUS, THE AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF OUR FAITH. NO OTHER MAN CAN SAVE US—NOT ANY MEMBER OF ANY POLITICAL PARTY.

GOD HAS PROMISED THAT IF WE WOULD RETURN TO HIM, HE WOULD RETURN TO US. COME ON MY FELLOW BELIZEANS. SEEK THE LORD WHILE HE MAY BE FOUND, AND CALL UPON HIM WHILE HE IS STILL NEAR—BEFORE HIS SPIRIT NO LONGER STRIVES, AS IN THE DAYS OF NOAH, WITH THE SIN OF OUR NATION.

MY PRAYERS GO UP CONSTANTLY FOR MY BELOVED COUNTRY.

  37. Chicago girl says:

This is bswhat is going on with belize mein am scared to go back what a shame! My prayers go out to the family how sad. I can believe he didnt have a gun on him shame on the bank I swear

  38. ONE CELLED BRAIN says:

Please release the name of the murderers, no matter if they are rich man or minister sons, please.

  39. Maddy vandijk says:

If you incorporate system DNA into an already poor system, this will cost too much money for the government; the government will not waste their time to spend so much on the police education system, just to teach them the use of this genetic information.
First of all you would have to send all those police back to a good school just to teach them what DNA is all about. What Every Law Enforcement Officer Should Know about DNA Evidence, the Belizean police don’t even have a clue.
When there is a murder scene in Belize, the police shows up, walk all over the entire scene, and then leave with no evidence. The police have no fundamental knowledge about identifying, preserving, and collecting DNA to help solve cases in Belize.
    We need a cheaper option..

  41. Eliu says:

I think that the only one that can help us here is no other than Jesus I think our country and all the people we need to come as one to battle this situation but also i think parents are to be blamed because we as parents when our children are doing wrong instead of correcting them we let them do what they want and that is what is wrong. But let God guide us in this situation.

It is so sad to see what is happening and our Government sits aside and do nothing more than just fight and call each other name in the house well you see it all has to start from somewhere and it is our ow leaders that is setting these terrible examples. Mr PM start doing what you know in heart is right to do lets bring back the street flogging of criminals and death sentence it is time for a change.

  44. Sher says:

Can,t believe my cousin died, but it true.Because of some nonesenseless idiots. But God is not sleeping. His time has come in death, but i dislike listening about how he died by gunshots, he was a good person in heart. Belize got their independence an yet we are living under the Commonwealth. The rich getting richer and poor are getting poorer, and that is why crimes are commited because there is no job to help the pooer class of people. Why the queen still involve in our country, after we have our independece? Instead of going forward we are going backwards.Mr.Priminister if it was your son or wife get murdered like my cousin Steven what would you do? God is watching from a distance and everyone have a day to come.My condolences goes out to my family the lopez, Cutklevin and his wife words can,t even describe
    what they are feeling inside.

  45. CHRIST'S KID says:

  47. C.O.Galvez says:

the equation because you are getting big you must have a nation of thugs and thieves.
NYC is big but its clean and I feel safe walking in New York with 10 Million people.

We need to instill values and the government needs to partner with others or other countries to
provide employment, good jobs even for those who are coming out of jails.
Belizeans need to know they are being looked at by the international community and
once the word is out no one will want to visit much less spend ” vacations” in a country
where there is no civility , police protection or civil rights .

Come on Belizeans start now , be proud of your country and help each other . Dont destroy each other. Dont steal . Be content with what you have. Belize can be transformed but it has to start with
each of you , right here , right now.

  48. Alvira Clark says:

ENTITLEMENT!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS WHAT HAPPENES, THE CROOKS BELIEVE THEY ARE ENTITLED TO OTHER PEOPLES MONEY. ARE THEY THE BLACK MASK PEOPLE?

  49. Elgin Martinez says:

  50. Shaily Lopez says:

First of all i want to thank you all for your condolences and your kind words, everyday i think about my husband especially seeing my baby boy Steven Lopez Jr who is now four years old. I did not know about this page earlier but because many memories and hurts linger especially having to look at his little clone everyday i was looking up the event and came across this. To those who hoped that the bank would help me out, i’m open enough to say that they only gave me a thousand dollars, and the security firm, well that’s another matter that i will be talking about soon. It saddens my heart that almost nothing came out of the Belize police investigation. However two of the five robbers where shot and killed in Honduras so yeah that proves that my God does not sleep. One thing that i think would be helpful in our country is for lawyers to reach out to families affected by such crimes so that they can know their rights before the time expires for them to file a lawsuit. that is an area where our attorneys are lacking in and should start doing.
