Prime Minister speaks about rogue cop

Prime Minister Dean Barrow explained that it was one of the civilians who were apprehended during the incident in Saint Martin de Porres that turned in his partner in crime, the police constable. So now that the news has been spilled, the Police Department and the government will dismiss the officers who are suspects.

“The sting operation was that a target would have been hit and information would have been passed to the police officer. That information was passed on the police radio waves that that target was hit and the person was to communicate to the police officer the proceeds of the robbery. It’s being shared and he should come for his amount and he that.”

“Those that were involved in the operation last night and who took into custody the suspects that are presently in lockdown confirmed to all of us that at least one of those suspects has offered information, has made a statement and has provided details that make it absolutely clear that there is a ring that was operating and that all the incidents that the Commissioner listed are in fact connected, that this ring is responsible for every single one of those incidents and that the ring was being masterminded by a serving police officer. I think that has to be made absolutely clear because we have to tell the public these facts that serve to restore confidence. The fact is that same Belize Police Department has been able to break the ring, has been able to arrest one of their own and is in possession of evidence that makes it crystal clear that what was happening was organised, that what was happening was the work of this criminal gang, that this criminal gang was being led by this police officer and that as a consequence of last night’s operation that ring is now broken.
We know by the details provided by the persons in custody that this particular ring was responsible for every one of the incidents that the Commissioner detailed. The statements that the police were able obtain from those in custody make it clear that it was not this one police officer. And the public should know that by the end of the day other police officers will at the very least be suspended pending the outcome of the investigations. So one police officer is in custody. He was caught red-handed. Last night Mr Blackett and Mr Broaster set up a sting and this man was caught red-handed. So there’s no question about him being charged and there’s no question about his being the leader. But there are other police officers that the evidence makes pretty clear were also involved and by the end of the day those persons will at the very least be suspended. Whether the kind of evidence will be forthcoming to be able to convict those additional officers is a matter that has to wait until the investigation is completed but I am satisfied based on what Mr Broaster and Mr Blackett told me that there is enough to make it clear that none of these officers can remain in the Belize Police Department. So whether or not we are able to collect the kind of evidence that will lead to criminal convictions in the case of the other police officers not yet in custody, not yet suspended, not yet charged, they will not be able to remain in the Belize Police Department.”
finally! they tell us what many in the public already know!!! what happen Barrow and Crispy get a little guilty conscience….now we hold our collective breaths to see if anything will come of it.
borrow should go and make a sting to arrest some of his ministers , customs officers and other head of government who are stealing from the people. instead of picking on only the small fish and make every body feels like he is doing something goood. he would like to impress us by makeing a big deal over a couple little constable he wasted time to arrest, how about the one that a stealing millions from the belizean people. why dont we hear about them getting arrested. only the rich is getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. couple years more and we will be like guatemala and mexico. it has started already people. dont let them fool u with their little arrest. let them know we what to see some of the big ones goo down so that their can be a difference.

I am not impress Dean, we have been telling you that the cops are the real criminals for months now, but no one is listening.
You should have come marching in with an army, to do away with, or eliminate the bad police men from the good, all that talking could have been said by one of the police themselves, what a waste of time. I could have appointed a police officer myself for this job, appointing one who genuinely doesn’t know anything. No more talking, I want justice.
Yet, the problem is still a problem, and Dean Barrow still does not have a plan to end the gun war in Belize. Letting go those crooked cops from the force or giving them half a pay is a slap on the wrist, this will not end the crime war; I want real justice for these cops, I want some real answers,.
Try to debate plans or ideas to end the crimes, which is the main point of these debates. Instead, you seem to like to compare body counts.

People have to realize that waiting on government for salvation is like waiting for rain in the desert. Help yourselves and go after the dirty politicians as a unified public.Go get them out! There is no difference between PUP and UDP. They are both a “United Party” to steal from society and live their lives to the wealthiest as possible. This is a good start but do not start the celebration yet as one sting operation will not cut it, as you both do not have a sustained plan to stop the killing. Getting rid of a few corrupted cops will only increase the gangs that they are already a part of. There are many Belizeans willing to discuss the situation and provide possible alternatives! You could have invited voluntary Belizeans (grassroots, professionals, and experts) to this press conference to discuss ways to attack the crime violence.
Fire the entire police force, starting from the Commissioner, to the last one. Who you can’t fire, transfer them to be in charge of prisons etc. Then hire new professional police. Full Stop!

Here in California we learned long ago that an underpaid cop = a corrupt cop. We started paying them better and while we still get some bad ones, they are the rarity. Most cops here don’t want to give up the 80 thousand american they are making along with the medical, dental and 401k retirement plan they have. Hell, many work so much overtime they make twice as much as doctors.
Now if we could just stop electing actors to run our state into the ground…..
I was once told by a local that the government of Belize SHOULD BE IN THE SEX INDUSTRY….. THEY ARE ALWAYS SCREWING SOMEONE !!!!!!!!! The Government should take a close look and see how they are ruining a beautiful country and set up inside stings for ALL of the Police,Customs,Immigrations,…… they need one of their family to be subject to the hassle to come through the border with a few goods and see what happens in Real life.
I think it is high time for the politicians of Belize to acknowledge that they can’t run this country that is totally out of control. why don’t they ask another country for help, they just cant do it. It would be much wiser to ask for help than to see our country go to waste, it is a disgrace when we listen to the news from Belize. I was always proud to say i am a Belizean , but of recent I don’t feel the same.
Police is to protect and serve and the government is suppose to make sure that this is carried out properly. I personally think 75% of the police needs to be fired forthwith. TOOOOO much corruption.
It is a crying shame for any country’s leader and comissioner of police to be so clueless as to what was going on in its own constabulary force! Thank God that there were a couple of smart Officers among the bunch who could at least put 2 and 2 together, they must have had a higher form of education before joining the force……….Now let us watch and see if our leaders can put “All THESE CRIMINALS” and their sugar daddies all behind bars,and restore peace and tranquillity to my country. To tell you the truth,i don’t think anyone would feel safe in a country with a 7% conviction rate……cases go to court and evidence and witnesses end up missing…….Keep on giving the keys to the vault to the robbers, when will we learn?

I just don’t understand the Belizean public, for once progress is being made and I don’t see a single complement written on it’s behalf. Sure more criminals remain at large especially those commiting even bigger financial crimes but I feel so much better knowing that at least one person is not getting away for what they have done (and they have done a lot). I would rather be content about a murderer being off the street rather than someone committing a blue collar crime. So I applaud & commend those police officers who cracked this case.
We should all be a helping hand to reduce the level of crime in our country and not put all our hopes on that of the Police Dept and the government. They can’t do it all, just like they can’t help all of us to get out of proverty; so get off your butts people and work for what you want (safer environment, better life, etc).

It is sad to hear so many things happening in this litle country . Yes Mr Barrow now that you have a string then we hope you string up those involved in all investigations you have pending. Not leaving away that airplane that landed in the highway near Orange Walk and the scandal about the Karl Memorial Hospital because no arrest have been made. And for one we know many are in involved so string that string the right way.
