Rogue Cops are the masterminds behind several robberies

Both the Prime Minister Dean Barrow and the Commissioner of Police Crispin Jefferies dropped a bombshell today in the recent spate of armed robberies. It is an admission that is bringing shame to the department. The violence was undeterred and criminals were controlling the streets. Barrow and Jefferies told the press that a recent sting operation reveals that the recent hold-ups, including Tuesday’s heist at Scotiabank, Spanish Lookout branch, were all orchestrated by a string of rogue cops. What’s more, they claim that the officers have been conspiring with civilians for a while to carry out the violence. With respect to the robbery and murder at the Spanish Lookout Scotiabank branch, the police believe the cops in question planned the event with people living in the west. There is word that elements of the group might have skipped into the western border; Jeffries strongly believes that they are still in Belize. The names of the officers were not revealed. But word to News Five is that the officer under the microscope is a Constable who is assigned to the Crimes Investigations Branch. We can also confirm that one Jermaine Mangar is detained. The revelation discredits the Police Department further and Jefferies says the officers involved will be suspended for now. Jeffries explained what led police to the ring.

“Sometime after ten o’clock last night there was an incident in the Saint Martin de Porres area where at one of the police traffic control points a vehicle was intercepted. In that vehicle some suspicious characters were seen and two of the three were taken into custody. One fled, leaving a firearm behind. That matter is being dealt with. Two of those persons were taken into custody and were spoken to. This was the point when other things developed. As a result of that initial arrest we found out that there were things happening and plans were being made by those same persons to commit other robberies around the city. The information is that there would have been targeting a known restaurant in the City. From that the team on duty, Mr Blackett quickly mobilised additional manpower and launched a counter operation. A sting operation was set up and in that process it was learnt that a police officer was the mastermind coordinating some of these incidents. We have taken that police officer into custody and he, after thorough investigation over the next few hours will be arrested and charged. But in that process, believe that we have stumbled upon a ring being led by a very unscrupulous criminal minded police officer. That police officer, from the information we’ve gathered so far, may have a hand in the incident Spanish Lookout, may have a hand in the incident at Social Security, may have a hand in several other incidents. While these are strong comments we are confident that the senior people within our department, we believe that they can put together the necessary evidence to successfully prosecute on some of these charges. That officer, like four others who we believe are closely connected to him will be suspended from duty today and we will carry on with this investigation. We believe that this may lead us to more officers, as other names are being called but sufficient for us to go on with at this time. The Police Department has suffered and will continue to suffer from us having rogue cops. This is one effort we are making to see how far this goes and how much we can with this time.”

Did I hear that right the police involved were suspended? Are you serious, these rogue cops should be held in police custody and eventually go under trial for murder. Remember, an innocent security guard was murdered in cold blood during this heist. The commissioner of police needs to wake up, and do it quickly.

This is a real eye opener for the people of Belize. All along the corruption is coming from the defense force and not only the thugs or gangster may I say. All things that are in the dark must come to the light eventually.
Hononrable Dean Barrow, it’s time that you step up your game and do some thing about the administrative branches (Finance, Judicial, Defense Force, etc.) in Belize. The people of Belize is in dier need of help. Please make way to hear their callings and cries. You must create some type of iniative that will reconstruct how the defense force operates and handle the crimes and violences that are taking place in Belize TODAY.
I am afraid that if nothing is done, the children of tomorrow might not have a bright future. A future where they can have confidence that after they have finished school and graduate with their degrees that they can look forward to enter the world with good jobs, support from the government and some type of leadership responsibility to help others make it as they would.
From my point of view, the whole issue regarding the escalation of violence is that there are no jobs and with out jobs; there’s no money and we all know when there’s no money desperation sets in and the only resort might be for some one to rob a bank or an individual of their assets. Which is wrong, but we are humans and we will do any thing to survive one way or the other. Just dropping my thoughts along while I walk through this life.
