No Movado concert over Easter weekend

DJ Ritchie

DJ Ritchie

What was supposed to have been quite possibly the biggest dancehall concert over the Easter weekend instead confirmed what skeptics were saying all along that there would be no Movado on the beaches of Placencia.  The controversial artist known for his brash lyrics and uncensored song content was scheduled to perform one night on the peninsula.  Despite airing an artist drop leading up to Holy Saturday, unforeseen circumstances according to concert promoter, DJ Ritchie led to the cancellation of the event.

DJ Ritchie, Concert Promoter

“It’s a long story but let me cut it short alright.  There is a certain person in Jamaica that the U.S. wants to extradite.  Now the government nor the people want to give up this person so the U.S. is trying everything they could to try and squeeze Jamaica.  Wednesday afternoon about four o’clock a release was made from the embassy that eight artists’ visas were revoked including Movado, Beenie Man and Bounty; all the top artists, Jamaican artists.  So that was Wednesday, by Thursday morning we had to find another way to get Movado in Belize because his flight was booked from Jamaica to Miami to Belize.  So by Thursday midday we had a private jet for Movado directly from Jamaica to Philip Goldson Airport.  By Thursday evening another memo came out that Movado cannot leave Jamaica; cannot leave the airport.  The memo was out by, was made by U.S. Immigration so there was no way possible that Movado could have came out or any of those artists could have came out.  Not only to Belize it happened, twelve other shows through the Caribbean were canceled or postponed because of what happened.”

According to DJ Ritchie the artists’ affiliation with this underworld figure is what prompted U.S. Immigration to revoke the visa applications.  They are, however, working on rescheduling the concert for a later date.

No Movado? What a blessing! Belizean promoters must seek more positive role models for our youths instead of bringing these artists with shady reputation!

  2. Errol says:

That is awesome that he could not come. If our government can not stop the filth from coming in then someone above did it instead. Are people so blind to see the link between violent music and the actions of young men in our streets? Its the blind leading the blind 🙁

  3. TR Gongora says:

BS!!! Everytime a major artist is to come to Placencia, something goes wrong. Are they gonna do that to us EVERY year? I am a faithful concert attender and there’s always something…Mr Vegas didn’t show up. Serani showed up and did 4 songs, Mr Evil didn’t show up. Movado didnt show up. If these promoters don’t get this game right, people will stop attending all together.

  4. Islander says:

I am actually glad that Movado didn’t show up….Belize needs to take a bold step and say to this artists who inspire violence that enough is enough you are not welcomed here to spread your violent lyrics and tunes…

Lets do it like the Bahamas and ban them violent artists and see how many .38 specials Movado can buy when he no longer is making money while poisoning the minds of our youth.

  5. Belizean says:

how di hell can the U.S. prevent Movado from leaving Jamaica? that is bull if you want to believe it. he could have gone to cancun, mexico, panama, guatemala, Belize,. he didn’t need to fly to miami. Jamaica is an independent country, so to say he can’t leave the airport…is absolutely nonsesense adn a poor excuse to not have a concert. i don’t care for movado, but the promoters are full of cow and bull

  6. Learsimz says:

Good that he didn’t make it to Belize. Let’s promote more Christian concerts that will enlighten our youths’ minds and at least make a difference in our corrupt society. We need to promote GOD more that we are promoting these violence-inspired artists. Most, if not all, of the violence is as a result of the absence of GOD in our families.

  7. maddy vandijk says:

I do not know this artist but from what I read from the news report the U.S did Belize a favor, perhaps saved a few lives in the process of revoking the visa applications.

If the government banned the music from underworld figures of Jamaica from entering Belize this could actually help the kids become better people.

DJ Ritchie need to get his act together, Belize need progress, not more setbacks.

  8. Pride of Belize says:

This is interesting, because not only speculation but also facts showed that Movado had no intentions to come. Now the promoter, Richie, apparently knew that but still went on to bring the crowd down to Placencia. What other Joice did they have than to accept that BS that the US will not let him leave his own country. I would not be surprised if they , as usual DJ Richie, did not do his homework and let it to the last minute. And than we all know what happened, A BIG NO SHOW

and yes, Belize has good artists and we should be proud of them , not bring in the filth, foul mouth and pot smokers from abroad. Jamaica has so many good artists, I would not doubt that they had no problem coming if they were invited or paid (Richie ….you know what I mean)

  9. Chicago-son says:

first of all i don’t care or listen to rap music i don’t understand it or get the essence of it. I listen to real reggea music like LUCKY DUBE, ZIGGY MARLY , BLACK UHURU and UB40 just to mention a few now those are very good artist.

  10. Kim (New York) says:

I was in Belize over the Easter Holiday and everybody i know was not interested in attending the Movado Concert. I guess people are really tired of negativity. I think it was Gods way of protecting the people of Belize.STAY AWAY FROM OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY MOVADO!

  11. BELIZEANGYPSY says:

I LIVE IN THE U.S.A. AND I HAD DICOURAGE ALL OF MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY FROM GOING TO MOVADO CONCERT. WHAT HE SUPPOSEDLY SING IS NOT REGGAE MUSIC. BELIZE ALWAYS ACCEPTS THE LOWEST CLASS OF MUSICIANS

GOOD THAT MOVADO DIDNT SHOW UP IF U ARE A TRUE REGGAE FAN YOU WOULDNT GO TO HIS CONCERT, HES NO DIFFERENT FROM THE REJECTED RAP ARTIST IN AMERICA. I HAD DISCOURAGED ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY FROM SEEING HIM.

  12. Nansense says:

See people rather spend their money on crazyness , I think there, is where the Governmnet should implement tax rate . Belizeans are crying that no money no deh but what! deh go spend it on unecessary thing! I think that people who make big money like Band owners , etc should start to pay a fee main. and especially those night clubs where strip tease an sex deh , da them should di pay more tax ! Uno no think so!

  13. Elgin says:

They’re still going,Most of us brain wash Belizean thinks that we are Jamaican anyway.

  14. System one says:

Its A blessing that movado coundnt leave his country, belize has the highest murder rate per person in the world, so no need to be promoting violent music , and moreover movada cannot be classed as reggae, reggae is positive vibez that promote love and peace……….. this should be a lesson to all belizeans who calls themselves artist… if they would step up to the plate and start making positive sense able music they wundt have to be bringing all the jamaicans rejects! untill belizeans artist rise above stupid songs like suck mi titi, lolipop, suck and swallow songs that have no meaning and dept ..belizeans musicians will never get bigger than selling 20 cd’s if they dnt improve the quality of there music. they should change the name from Punta Rock to Punta Crap! music of belize will never have an international audience oudside belize border and the belizeans living abroad!

  15. EarlGray says:

    BIG UP … Mr. Program!!!

  16. Sugarman says:

The PM of Bardados had the balls to openly ban this person from appearing in a concert there recently. While Belize powers did not see it fit to do so, destiny intervened and saved our youths from receiving Mavado’s message of negativeism, murder, killing and gangs…..way to go….if U wanna promote “real” music, bring “real” musicians

  17. gal from Placencia says:

I had a much betta time dancing all night to Inna Vibrations and DJ Black Chiney! Anyway, you can’t dance to Movado. It would of just been a bunch of guys around the stage hollorin with they hands up until a fight broke out. I agree with everyone else… he’s a bad influence!

  18. Gaza gyal says:
