PM Barrow confident in ComPol’s work against rogue cops

What started as welcome news has now become a nightmare. But the Prime Minister today told News Five that he stands by the statements he made along with the police top brass that there is a ring of rogue cops within the department wreaking havoc. Barrow said this afternoon via phone that the high command will make every effort to stamp out corruption from the police department.

“Information which linked a number of police officers to the spate of robberies and was certainly enough of a basis in which to have the department proceed to issue, in some cases, letters of interdiction or letters of suspension pending disciplinary hearings. We all know that in one case certainly criminal charges have been laid against a police officer. As to the extent of the evidence and as to the guilt or innocence of the police officers that have been named, that’s not a matter for me to decide. The internal processes and in the one case, the court processes will have to be exhausted. But I do want to say that I am very determined that the police high command should make every effort to stamp out corruption in the police department, root and branch to the extent that the information that they received from the prisoner that was apprehended is able to allow them to proceed with the process of trying to clean house. I certainly will stand completely with the commissioner of police and the high command as they attempt to do just that.”
