Mangar’s attorney asks how can he be charged when there was no robbery?

Jermaine Mangar
Where are the rogue cops? That is the question many are still asking tonight. After last Thursday’s press conference, the country waited to hear which cops were inside the crime ring that had infiltrated the police department. To date only one officer, Jermaine Mangar, has been charged in relation to a suspected robbery of Chon Saan Restaurant. The rumor mill has been working overtime and there are reports that suggest that there’s more than meets the eyes to the police version of the sting operation that was mounted last Wednesday night, which unleashed the chain of allegations. Both the ComPol and the Prime Minister appeared totally convinced that a number of officers were involved in the recent spate of robberies but as we said, only one police officer is facing charges and they are not serious charges as had been expected. Another person charged for the suspected robberies is Jermaine Palacio, who along with Mangar has been charged with Attempted Robbery with a firearm and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. All said and done, Mangar’s attorney had another version of how Wednesday night unfolded.
Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley, Attorney for Jermaine Mangar
“The situation with mister Jermaine Mangar is that he has been charged with two persons, one of whom is not in police custody. Those who have seen the so called surveillance tape from Chon Saan, it shows no Jermaine Mangar. Jermaine Mangar is as green as you would be in relation to his actual going to rob Chon Saan Palace. He has an alibi; not one person, several persons. He and one other person, Jermaine Palacio, appeared in court and were read charges because the allegation against him were that the attempted robbery was done with a firearm. The law says that any offence being committed with a firearm, the magistrate is unable to give bail so Mr. Mangar has been remanded to her majesty’s prison where his safety is in question because his testimony and his work as a police officer has people behind bars.”

Richard "Dickie" Bradley
“The supposed smoking gun is that he went on Baymen Avenue and the footage shows people getting out of a vehicle and going to collect proceeds of a supposed robbery. Did he say if collected any funds?”
Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley
“No, what he said is that he did receive a phone call to go and collect money that was to be paid to him for household furniture. So that story will have to be tested in a court of law. But the question is that if there was no robbery, if Chon Saan was not robbed, Chon Saan was only attempted to be robbed. So if there was no robbery how can you already have the proceeds from the attempted robbery? Yoh noh rob di place, di place noh get robbed so how ih gone collect money fi somewhere weh noh get… so it would seem that the story is more as he is saying it other than what they are claiming. How dehn could call you and tell you bwai come fi di money fi di place? Di place neva did get robbed.”
Jose Sanchez
“Do you think the police top brass spoke too soon when they spoke of this police criminal ring that mister manger is supposedly a part of?”
Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley
“Well, those who monitor these things, I’m only defending people who say to me and show me satisfactory evidence that they are being falsely accused. There are people in this country who are being falsely accused. If there is such a thing going on—I mean this has to be the most frightening thing in Belize that the senior officers who look over our safety and our security are in fact plotting to rob and kill us—that has to be the most frightening information that come out. In any other democracy, the minister of the police would offer his resignation. That is a very serious matter, so serious that the prime minister himself considered it necessary to attend a police press conference; he is not the minister of police. If police had that information, they ought to have continued with investigation rather than blow the whistle before the investigation even reach a certain level and get some arrests for the country and show some elementary information that there is some facts to it. Now in fact all that has happened, today makes one week afterwards and not a single soul has been arrested for not a single conspiracy. All that has happened is that they have received a letter from the office, which si the easiest thing to make up: “I’m putting you on suspension”.”

I will answer you one of your questions: you asked “So if there was no robbery how can you already have the proceeds from the attempted robbery?”
Don’t you understand that the robbery was prevented……… but the sting operation was set up to make it sound that the robbery had occurred……… so that the accused goes on to collect his share… to prove the criminal claim already arrested….that Mangar was involved….it is clear as water…
Mr. Bradley, where was your client arrested??? in his home or at Baymen street???
Why he was going to collect money to be paid for household item during that hour???
That also point out that there was a close relationship between Mangar and the criminal (actual person to commit the crime-Palacio). It seems that Mangar trusted this person to go supposedly collect money…
Please, Bradley…you are not the only intelligent Belizean so don’t come with silly claims….
I am really contemplating forming my family gang to gain some easy money….Hey Mr. Bradley, do you wish to join? you only need to be our lawyer if we get caught!!! you wa get wa nice share….
MONEY TALKS Bu!!$#iT WALKS…..
I hope the jury are smart enough to be rational thinkers and not accept stupid excuses like the one claimed in this case…..
As to the PM and the ComPol…..IS THERE GOING TO BE ANOTHER PRESS CONFERENCE???
Why we dont hear you? Please provide the media an interview………
An allegation is very easy to make and you find your life spiraling out of control as you try to defend
yourself and seek that NOT GUILTY statement from the judge—It is wrong for your boss to set you
up but it happens and it had happened before–Mangar is not the first and certainly wont be the
last–Truthfully it is getting worse– Investigation derailment and big time cover up plus shifting of
truth towards an innocent man has been done before in the Belize Police Force— I believe they
should have 3 investigations going on, investigate Mangar, Investigate the police that arrested
Mangar as well as the establishment that was to be robbed. Each investigator is to work
independent from each other and relay their findings infront of a board or a separate agent, if
this is done correctly and effectively–there will be weeping and grinding of teeth. The best way to
punish a wicked rich man is to take all his money similiar to a wicked man in power. Expose
them show us their houses and all the stuff they have acquired, which will turn out to surpass
the salaries that they obtain legally——WORD.
There is more to Mangar that people do not know and as much as I respect Mr Bradley has a job to do, it upsets me to see that he is trying toi get him back on the streets. When something hits close to home he might understand but by prote cting criminals I guess you are guarteed protection from them. Too mnay things are happenning in Belize and all of the criminals get away. What is wrong?
Jeffries is more than responsible for many of these robberies taking place. He should be fired, ………. All this is just a blinder to keep us distracted, like everything else in this country and this stupid stupid stupid government. People are dying and they are more worried about their pockets and getting caught. Barrow and Jefferies got to go!!
Stupid of you bradley … as if you are not a lawer, you don`t want to understand the sting.
Go on moron.
I am a 100% in agreement with what cg said.
Sorry : But Mangar could not have masterminded all these crimes by himself.
I don’t know who is P.C. Mangar, however he appears to be a no nonsense cop, who apparently get the job done as a policeman, to thie best of his ability. Perhaps, for this reason, more or less they are using him as the perfect scapegoat. Get the tough cop off the street to prove that they are making some sort of effort to clean up the department Clearly, Belize is experiencing a very serious leadership crisis in every phase of governement. Barrow, Perdomo & Jeffries ……………, however, how much longer must Belizeans blood be spilt, how many more mothers, wives, girlfriends, brothers and sisters must bury their love ones. While the country is suffering from this blantant leadership crisis. .
FREE MANGAR!!!! UR IN MY PRAYERS BRO!!
I agree with cutty. Allegations are easy to be made hard to prove and even harder to disprove. Given the recent public flogging that the Belize Police Department has been getting in the past weeks, I salute the hundreds of officers countrywide who are still out there pushing 110%. Many of them leave their families behind in other districts. It has never been easy being a police officer, and is it even harder now.
We pray that Almighty God will guide the investigators that the true would be revealed in these cases and those responsible brought to justice.
Indifference, apathy is more pervasive than corruption & it is killing us. Greed has taken the place of common sense. Our willingness to sell our souls & those of our brothers for material things has infected every segment of our society. We have replaced one commissioner after another only to watch the situation go from bad to worse. The officers are coming out of our communities where we have at times embraced the worse in human nature. Every accusation against a police officer has to be investigated or at minimum brought before an independent panel made up of a cross section of people living in the community, like a grand jury. The man sweeping the drain may have more common sense than the PhD but giving the community a chance to address or try to correct some of the flaws is a start.. Peer evaluation obviously is not working. When an officer is fired, no one should be able to pull strings to make his problem go away & reinstate him. Each time evidence disappears, the person in charge should be fired. When an officer is identified as a bully, remove him before he becomes a murderer in uniform. Hire the best man or woman for the job, not the next one in line. We cannot ask the people at the bottom to be honest without expecting the same from the people on top.
Pure corruption in cowboy town, mangar your are guilty,Lawyers corrupted, the intire Police department corrupted, the intire House of Representives are corrupted. It is Sad !Sad!Sad!
