Ervin James killed while socializing with friends

Two others lost their lives, but to gun violence. We start with the chatter of gunfire, an all too familiar sound, echoed shortly before midnight on Thursday as residents of Ross Pen Road scrambled for safety. Others peered through windows to see what the commotion was about. When the smoke cleared twenty-two year old Ervin James laid fatally wounded inside a black Toyota Corolla that was parked in front of his cousin’s house. Brothers Gilbert and Jason Wade who were in his company were also hit in the drive-by but somehow managed to escape fatal injuries. News Five’s Isani Cayetano has the details of this murder.

At the scene of the shooting our cameras picked up the first set of telltale evidence, shingles of glass from the vehicles driver’s side window which littered the street. Inside her home at the time of the incident was Shakira Vasquez who recounted what happened off camera.

“I came out to check the car but no one came out and as I went in to further be with my daughter I saw my boyfriend and brother-in-law come out to the door to see who was in the car and right after another car came up and start shooting. But I was in the room and all you can hear were the gunshots and in a quick moment my boyfriend and my brother-in-law was in the bathroom and my boyfriend was shot several times. So was my brother-in-law and we continued to hear the gunshots. After the gunshot had stopped we came out and found that someone was in the car but we could not identify who was the person.”
That individual was later identified as Ervin James better known as Beansie, a resident of Mayflower Street. Sources claim he is the victim of an ongoing gang rivalry and that he may have ventured into enemy territory while visiting his relatives. The bullet riddled Corolla was later transported to the Queen Street Police station for processing. According to Vasquez the getaway vehicle used in the drive-by suffered mechanical problems shortly after the shooting.

“The actual car that was sending the fire broke down further up the street and the two gunmen ran out of the car and went by foot up the street. Then we finally realized that it was my boyfriend’s cousin Ervin James that was in the car dead.”
The second set of evidence is this perforated two story house. Residents suggest that what was used in the shooting was a high-powered assault rifle. One of the two assailants is believed to be twenty-eight year old Jermaine Garnett whose vehicle was allegedly used in the shooting. Garnett was detained shortly after three this morning where a search of his person yielded ten point nine grams of marijuana. Immediately after pleading guilty to the charge of marijuana possession he was escorted to Queen Street where he awaits questioning into the murder of Ervin James. Jacquelyn James, Ervin’s sister, attested that her brother is no saint.

“Hmm I have noh idea cause I know he noh normally go round deh sake ah dehn seh dehn noh really mess wid one another and ting so I noh really know because when I get the call from my cousin I mih shock when my cousin tell me ih geh shot round deh cause I know ih neva does go round deh so I noh know weh dah the reason why he ah wahn deh outta ih house dehn hours deh ova dah side deh and yoh done know dehn noh like ah, I noh know.”
It is claimed that Beansie was a ranking member of the Ghost Town Crips who recently made headlines when he was accused of firing at Brandon Smith on Mahogany Street. That incident resulted in injuries to two primary school students, Rosalind Ranguy and Alex Estell, who were on their way home from school. According to Vasquez, when her boyfriend and in-law found out that Beansie was shot they made an attempt to transport him to the hospital but came across police who were responding to the scene.

“My other brother-in-law tried to take them in his car but as soon as the police stopped they wanted to search the car and we explained to them that it was an emergency and that was the only way that they let them go to the hospital.”
But by the time they got the hospital Ervin James was already dead. Today the scene of the shooting was rather quiet only a few children enjoying the last of their Easter vacation. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.

The sad thing here is not only another youth murdered by gun violence, but like so many who are also COLD-BLOODED KILLERS and still alive, they know their days are numbered. Nobody knows when it’s comming but they know that, somewhere, someone has a bullet with their name on it….it’s a matter of time…you know the sayin’ “LIVE BY THE BULLET, DIE BY THE BULLET.”

I’m responding to Reepa’s comments…it really doesn’t make any sense at all. If Ghost Town Crips is nothing nice to play with then Beans would of still been alive. Don’t you think? Anyway, it’s so stupid that people put their lives and trust in gangs when the reality of that is death. Only an intelligent person would stay away from being in a gang. And how can we wish beans to be in peace when he has taken out so many people while he had breathe in his body. He took out man, woman, and children. We can’t wish him peace when he was the cause of so much violence and death that occured in Belize. So, NO peace to him because he didn’t shed no peace to the world while he had a chance.
