Did a drug plane crash in the Lighthouse Reef Atoll?
For three days, there have been reports that a plane had crashed in a caye in the Lighthouse atolls. It is believed the incident is drug related and police has remained tight lipped. As far as we can ascertain, the mystery plane is still submerged in the waters. News Five has learnt that a body found in the area last Friday, was brought ashore and quickly buried. The identity of the person has not been confirmed. News Five Jose Sanchez has been following this story and has this report.

A plane was reported to have crashed into the sea last week Friday night. It occurred in the Lighthouse reef Atoll about fifty-four miles east of Belize City. Several agencies, including the Police Department and the Coastguard have been investigating the scene and have made several trips to the caye since it was found. What is most unusual is that the police department has not disclosed any facts about the plane. What we have been able to verify is that several solar lamps which glow at night, were placed along a small and narrow landing strip to accommodate a night landing on Northern Two Caye. The plane crashed just south of the island and missed its mark. The island is home to a resort which is only open during the high tourist season and currently only a security guard for the resort was stationed on the island. A check at various airlines and the department of civil aviation indicates that no plane or pilot has been reported to be missing and no scheduled flight was expected to land on Northern Two Caye. So the first question to ask is “What happened to the pilot?” The police has just revealed today that a body was found floating near Lighthouse Reef in the sea near mangroves. The conclusion of that autopsy revealed that the Hispanic male was certified to have died from trauma shock due to multiple blunt and sharp object injuries. And if the connection between the floating body, and the plane can be established, then perhaps one more link can be made between them and an ice box that floated to the north end of Caye Caulker at nine a.m. on Sunday. On the eleventh, the police found a red ice box containing fourteen parcels wrapped in brown masking tape suspected to be compressed cocaine. But why have the police covered up the existence of the plane? Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.
The other questions that linger are: Who owns the island and the resort? And has the security guard been questioned or taken into custody?
and where comes in the ComPol Jeffries??? its smells all fishy….If media do not pressure then all this could be a total cover up!!!!! where is the Police Department or the Coast Guard report??? hope that they do not continue tight lip because it adds to the mistrust that the Belizeans have on law enforcement…I think that high public officials are all involved in this incident….who was the dead pilot??? must be that some of them are link to the cartel and they are covering up but now that it has been made public they might try to find some lame excuse why they haven’t said anything about it. just watch it.
If the police or the politicians are not in involved in this case then why would they quickly buried the body?

yo yo. i heard that the police department is in charge and so the coastguard, civil aviation, bdf, no one can comment since its a police matter. so it all goes back to bid daddy Jeffries to speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth (or at least some truth and fess up to what happened) i don’t need to know what happened to all the drugs that were on the plane and which usual rich belizean is related to the incident. i just want them to admit that the plane and the man are there.

well, since all the cover up story of man found,dead, parcels of drugs, i would say more than likely that police men and the department as a whole is covering up these incidents and all these happenings . i strongly believe . the country of belize has a corrupted police dept. i hated the whole police this police that, police are the main contribution to criminal , drug and all other illegal activities which they say ” we are combating crime” they are promote crime for gods sake.
the PM and the government needs to retrench the whole police dept and build a new dept. since these old heads are all in to covering up a simple story. be realistic, the island has a landing strip, and its own by one person, think , of course a plane is believed to crashed land, an of course yes its drug related, y? drugs were found. but were they only 14? who knows the police could have kept the next 14. because a plane wouldn’t land with only 14 parcels? who know? there might be more drugs. well its the police again? let us belizean think logical and read , listen to wats happening around us. our country has shown improvement from since i know the couple past 30 years. now everyting is police power. well praise the government that you all voted in. well its true too. that coast guard is becoming like the police dept. since they have seas right. yet the misuse the military . just watch. our poor maintained military is falling a part. just watch it
honestly these things are really getting out of control. there are a couple police officers who are committed but others u know money talks and their minds are two weak. They want to harras and chance the poor who r trying to eat and get a sm meal for themselves whilst the big money is out there being snatched by high heads. i really beleive the media needs to step up and do as it is doing. Dont be biased as to politics just burn fire on whoever needs to be burnt. People will eventually stand up but we ourselves are afraid that if u stand up someone out there is pointing u out and u could be next. Lets get back to the high legal laws we had. Justice is not being gotten crimes unsolved and murderers being set free. Come on belizeans we need stop this and take things inot our own hands if we cant get assistanc eno where.

I know of what I speak, when I say that there was always a certain corrupt elements in the Belize police from the time of British rule. There were a few cops who use to shake down the Chinese that were involve in illegal lottery. Then there were corruption at the customs that allowed some merchants to under pay custom duty, for kick backs. While the country was engaged in fight for independence there were certain politicians that was on the take big time such as allowing certain night clubs to bring in prostitutes from neighbouring countries. I don’t have to call names because many Belizeans who read this will know exactly who the hat fit.
Some of the drudgs king pin could not be arrested in Belize because they had protection on Belize soil, only when they crossed into Mexico and Miami were they arrested. The killing of many Belizeans has gone unsolved such as Police Inspector Gonzales whoes body was never found on a trip to the cayes to investigate a crime. I repeat, there was always a certain corrupt element in Belize, and it will always be, because Belizeans can keep secret when they want to.
Very true, Belize Police department is all corrupted, they rub elbows with the rich and get a piece of the action by covering up the fact, but Belizean’s are not stupid We no better. Not all of them are corrupted but they learned very quick. The Media needs to pursue these stories and report on them.
I can’t believe that some Belizean’s are still voting for this goverment. All they have done is raised taxes and waste taxpayers money. Crime is at an all time high. What’s next?
