Did someone shoot at law firm of Barrow and Williams?

barrow law firm 1At around eight o’clock this morning, word spread that the law firm of Prime Minister Barrow and his partner, attorney Rodwell Williams, had been targeted in the spate of crime. Belize is not a country known for violence against its leaders so the report was alarming. Employees at the firm were trickling in to begin the work day and no one was hurt but damages were observed on two glass windows.  Police were called to the scene and investigations are still ongoing. News Five’s Jose Sanchez reports.

Jose Sanchez, Reporting

A commotion occurred this morning outside the law firm of Barrow and Williams. The office building located near the end of Albert Street, which is only a stone’s throw away from city hot spots for violence. Broken glass from two windows, led to reports that a bullet was shot from the street and shattered the glass and louvers on a window above the ground floor before exiting through the glass window and louvers on another side of the building.  Rodwell Williams is the firm’s senior partner.

“I understand that about five minutes to eight this morning some noise was heard and two or three people who were in the office later observed there was a damage, two windows damaged to our office. We don’t know exactly what caused it but given the kind of environment, we thought we would call the police and report having discovered that the windows to the east or to the north were damaged by some projectile, we imagined. We don’t know.”

Jose Sanchez

“Did you find anything on the ground within the office, other than glass?”

Rodwell Williams

“No. no. nothing that I am aware of was found in the office or outside.”

Jose Sanchez

“There is a possibility that it could have been a bullet.”

Rodwell Williams

“Well, I won’t speculate but it is certainly criminal damage and, therefore, we think it is appropriate to report it.”

“Have you ever had any glass windows being vandalized before?”

Rodwell Williams

“We’re downtown Albert Street and we have had incidences with regard to acts of misconduct but we report it when we find the need.”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow has occasionally used his old office at the firm to conduct interviews.

Jose Sanchez

“The main public concern is that the Prime Minister dies hold an office here, so was the prime minister here? Was it near his office?”

Rodwell Williams

“The prime minister doesn’t work here; it is a misperception. The prime minister is a partner in this firm. But the prime minister no longer works at this office so he’s really not here, he works in Belmopan. Irrespective of what the public perception may be, no. he wasn’t really anywhere here at all.”

Neither did office employees or construction workers from across the street hear any gunshot.  Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.

Prime Minister Barrow and his wife today left for Chicago where according to a government release, they will be meeting with potential investors, Mayor Richard Daley and the Diaspora.

  3. Better Belize says:

the crime violence is getting closer….As other readers and I have been commenting occasionally, the crime violence will eventually affect a minister directly in the near future…I hope Barrow do not keep ignoring the people because Belizeans are getting tired and frustrated with the present administration incompetence and lack of support to the grassroots Belizeans…

  4. EarlGray says:

Why does he need to take his wife??? What a useless first lady. Do we pay for that????? I hope not….

  6. maddyvandijk says:

If it was indeed bullets that cause the damaged glad no one was hurt.
I will not waste my time and write here my entire comment about this topic; because I am sure the media will not let me have my say in all its honesty about this specific issue.
But, I hope this is a lesson to the politicians that they indeed need to do something about the gun violence in Belize as soon as possible.
    The criminals are getting smarter…

  7. Elgin Maretinez says:

Thanks to who ever took their rage to the Prime Minister’s Law Office. They took it to the right place, let’s see what this lame Duck is going to do to fight the escalating crime rate in Belize.

  8. Elgin Maretinez says:

I’ve been waiting for this to happen. It’s about time they send a message to these incompitent leaders.

  9. BELIZEAN PRIDE says:

IF NO GUNSHOT MEIN WELL A SILENCER COULD HAVE BEEN THE RIGHT THIING USED. OR MAYBE SOME KIDS WITH SLINGSHOT AND STONE BUT IF NO STONE FOUND THERE WELL WHAT CAN WE GUESS. BUT IT SUPPOSE TO BE TICKING THE PM MIND TO SEE UP TO WHERRE VIOLENCE CAN REACH EVEN HIM CAN BE A TARGET NOW. THIS IS REALLY GETTING SERIOUS PEOPLE. HOPE WE HAVE NO REVOLUTION HERRE IN BELIZE OR CIVIL WAR LATER.

  10. Elgin Martinez says:

It’s about time that Barrow’s office get hit.

  11. Alvira Clark says:

INTERESTING!!!! USA POTENTIAL INVESTORES. IN A COUNTRY THAT IGNORS THE HAGUE TREATY.

  12. Sasha says:

To GeeMike, you should be happy that the US even made you a citizen, it is peopole like you with this type of mentality that makes the country not seek investors. For your info there is no 4th world country, Belize is slowly moving forward even as a 3rd world country. I too am a US citizen who served in the US Army with distinction and am working for the Federal Gov’t. now as a civilian, I just came back from a vacation to Belize, and was more than happy to be there. Crime is widespread in all countries, it is easier to catch a thief/murderer in Belize than it is in the US because most people know who there neighbor is even a mile away. STOP TALKING RIDICULOUSLY.

  13. santiago says:

The belizean people are already tired of the PM nepotism & corrupted city council and they want them out office as soon as possible.

  14. "CHANGE" says:

I can’t “Belize” this our little country is turning into a war zone. I guess President Obama needs to take the war on terror to little old Belize.

  15. melvin ivan says:

WELL ! WHO’S NEXT” there we have it the people are really disatisfied the way our country is being run by the Hon “Dean Barrow” and this is really serious if nothing is being done, could be a police officer trying his target ? all that corruption/nepotism, going on in the UDP government its going to end the people are awake ,they can’t take it any longer, but its still 2 and a half more years to go thats the sad part mr dean barrow doesn’t care for no one only himself ,mrs lois young barrow,Anwar barrow, he no care if u have a job or food to give to ur children,we just need to stand up ! its our right they were elected to serve our country not victimise the people “their own UDP people are being victimised thats sad,but we can’t expect better from them ,they have fired thousands of Belizeans, taken their lands away, and they are only good in raising TAXES.{THE KILLA VAT IS BACK}.

  16. miguel guerra says:

BELIZE IS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY AND I AM PROUD TO BE A BELIZEAN. THE ONLY THINGS THAT NEED TO CHANGE ARE THE POLITICIANS. I THINK THAT THERE SHOULD BE A THIRD PARTY SO THAT THE PUP AND UDP WAKE UP AND STOP PLAYING POLITICS. HELP THE PEOPLE TO SUCCEED AND STOP LOOKING WHICH COLOR IS EVERY PERSONS.

  17. GeeMikeisaMoron says:

GeeMike, you are an disgrace to Belize…shame on you. Traidor pendejo! Go follow your dream in the USA…we dont even miss people like you in the jewel. I wa see dem deport u see where you going…hopefully u rot in their jail…I so agree with you Sasha.

  18. JJ says:

This is just damn f….. crazy!!!!!!!!…….what is wrong with my precious and lovely Belize!….This is just pure m……. when someone will blatantly go out and shoot at the supposed workplace of someone who is our Nations Leader!….What is wrong with this people!…..I am no fan of any leader who does not progress Belize or its people into the future….so I would not endorse any such actions on Musa or Barrow. But what Mr. Barrow must realize is that CRIME is a HUGE problem in the city and countrywide right now!……Why does it continue to persist? Why does it not feel a bit safe? Why is it that innocent people continue to be a harms way?!….Someone said something to me that was horrific, yet funny and something that warrants consideration…..”hang them naked…buy the best sweetest jam and paste it all over them….raise and ants nest at their feet and let the flies have a feast…”….

  19. cg says:

all those who condone violence in your comments, is certainly in need of counseling. Luckily, (NO MATTER WHO) no one was hurt but it certainly is a sign of the times. I am not a Barrow fanatic, supporter or voter, but I despise any act of violence on anyone. It simply begets more violence

  20. Elgin Maretinez says:

Sometimes it takes a revolution to get a solution. This is not about endorsing violence against anyone .You can disagree with me if you want cg:However Barrow needs to step to the plate straight talk.

  21. belichico says:

to geemike. i think this forgot where he came from he feels that just because he is a us citizen he has conquered the world. you should start thinking like a human being NOT like a selfish bastard

  22. yoyo says:

yo you. Rodwell WIlliams glasses are ill? where can i get those?

  23. esther says:

I think we should have the BDF patrol the streets, curfue imposed and bring back capital punishment. Hang a few of the criminals and start sending a message to the criminals. I reside in the USA and was there for a two week vacation and love my country dearly and hope to return within a year permanently. We really need to clean up the streets and mane it safe again

  24. JJ says:

Criminals need counseling???…Ordinary endangered citizens need to organize and seriously lobby their government to crack down harshly on these deadly elements in our society. …Violence is never the answer……but when things get rough and the ordinary law abiding citizens are put in harms way unnecessarily and needlessly by ruthless criminals……then those ordinary citizens must be VERY serious about their safety…..they must exact serious punishment for those who jeopardize that safety. It is my fervent opinion that those who willfully and knowingly cause intentional harm must suffer the exact same punishment…. bet you they will not do the same thing again…oh wait…they’d be dead….the same way you would be if you were buying your panades and some fool come steal the panades lady and shoot you just because you were there…….

  25. BA says:

Hopefully no one was hurt. Well I am pleased that someone targeted Barrows office, because now he will actually try to do something about the crime in Belize. Belize is going down hill, the people are falling deeper into poverty and the goons in Govt. keep robbing us. We need change, and we need it fast or soon we will be worse than jamaica

  26. Michelle says:

Stop this madness people. you negative commentators are exactly the kind of fuel that keeps crime and violence blazing. Have you consider the fact the Mr. Barrow has not created the predicament Belize is now facing?

Sure we would like ti see him perform a miracle and purge Belize of all the wickedness that is “normal” day to day activities. wake up! PM Barrow is Christ Jesus. Even Jesus could change the evil heart of men. Change will come when each and everyone of us realizes that Satan is ruling the world. once we realize that then we can consciously do something to trained up our children and live good lives as an example, a guiding light in t his world of darkness. even then it will not be easy.

So lets preach love for God, love for self, love for fellow citizen and country. lets not resort to anger and helplessness. lets support or leaders and demand that they respect us in a more constructive way. lets do all we can to save Belize. sing the national anthem with a new a direct passion

  27. ceecee says:

cg,i don’t think anyone wants to condone such violence but people are desperate and they see that as a last resort.I really believe that the bullet should’ve made Mr Barrow (not to kill him) but as a warning that he needs to get up off his high horse and do what he’s getting paid to do.I always believe that criminals are cowards and they are scared to hit the big people because only then “maybe” the art of hanging might come back in play so they won’t choose that route so if that is what it takes for them to rethink that mode, then i’m all game.Hit one of the ministers or one of their family members and see crime starting to fall.Desperate times call for desperate measures. I really don’t think anyone wants to condone crime but sometimes its got to be used a s a last resort…..sorry!

  28. roses says:

I am speechless. I don’t know what to say. If this current government is not able to handle the crime, I suggest they ask for help from other countries, PLEASE. Crime does not seem to be letting up.
Dean is not looking at all the angles. Do something PLEASE.

  29. Elgin Martinez says:

cg:Barrow needs to step to the plate that is what this is about.

  30. Michelle says:

Excuse my typographical error. I meant to say that PM Barrow IS NOT Jesus. Even Jesus could NOT change the evil heart of men. we are living in the last days my people.

  31. Becca says:

I belive Belize needs leaders who are not only knowledgeable but be open minded. A country cannot prosper and be at peace unless the Leader has Wisdom to govern it and also Love its people who placed him in position. How will that happen, only by bending his knees before his Creator and asking for help to bring a change to the country. We do not want to see or hear that innocent lives are lost and the streets are stained with blood and that is just what is happening. This is a turning point for the better or for the worse. “The Lord says:without Me you can do nothing.”Its only God who can make a person a good leader. Hate is not what will solve the problem. Yes, there is a law of man and I do believe that those who do wrong should be punished accordingly, for justice must be served. May God cover Belize from north to south, east to west with His divine protection. May the borders be tightly protected. Thanks for reading my comments.

  32. HappyManDawg says:

    ………… DEAN BORROW

  33. sleepyhead says:

OMG, these guys have some nerve! There’s been an increase in violence in that area, and its as if these criminals are trying to send a direct message to our Leaders that they are in control and are not afraid of anyone! That said, I think that we should increase security measures everywhere in the city, especially in areas where there are school children and businesses. The Business community can contribute to the provision of some street cameras to Albert street as they have a vested interest in the security of that area. At the end of the day, our PM should have optimum security so securing his office and home with cameras is neither overly cautious nor wasteful.

  34. Real belizean says:

Sleepyhead is probably a dumb blond….get the sense.. DEAN OLIVER BARROW IS A LOWLIFE LEADER WHO IS TOO ARROGANT TO RECOGNIZE THAT PPL HIS PEOPLE ARE HATING HIM LIKE THE LYING RAT HE IS….
