Police stats continue to show decrease in crime

The police crime statistics that Police Commissioner, Crispin Jeffries released to the media earlier this week suggest that there has been a decrease in major crimes.  But if we were to take a random poll, that idea is not one that many people would agree with.  Just this week there were four murders, two robbers killed, numerous shootings and that is because April is just one day past its halfway mark.  So the methodology used to compile the statistical figures would be interesting to know. There are crimes that take place and never make it to the police report, or if it does, it is well after the media breaks the news.  The latest example of that occurred just this week after we reported about the drug plane that that crashed at Lighthouse Reef over the past weekend.  The police confirmed the incident until Wednesday but provided no details. There was also no report on the body found which could increase the murders to five.

It is the same story with the silencer story we aired last week Tuesday.  The incident had happened from the previous Saturday and no mention of that was made in any of Monday’s police reports to the media.  That’s only two cases in as many weeks.  Last year police also reported that crime was down when compared to the same period of the previous year.  In October of 2009 the police released details saying that there was an overall decrease in crime of fifteen point two percent compared to the September figures.  And now they say that it has further gone down by another thirty-point six percent.  Well if major crimes have been decreasing steadily from year to year and month to month, how does one explain the overflow of bodies at the Karl Heusner Memorial morgue as a result of gunshots, or the lack of bed space in the emergency wards due to more street violence?  So far for this year, there are already twenty-nine murders going into another weekend.

Jeffries I have a question for you. What the hell are you smoking? you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time! so stop your bs and put your boys on the beat. Better yet, maybe you should take your ass on the beat yourself. Living the life as the top brass, is different from living at the corner of George and south street.

I am so insulted and shocked by this piece of news coming from “Crispin Jeffries”, and you should be too.
What define “major crimes” in Belize?
If the bloodbath on the streets of Belize every week does not count as major crimes in Belize then what the hell does.
Humans are supposed to be unique. Our ability to communicate far should surpass that of any other species on the planet, yet Crispin Jeffries showed critical signs of no evolution in his entire being.
A crime rate is a statistical data of incidents that are reported. Crime rates don’t detail the number of crimes that go unreported due to victimization or intimidation. What type of statistics was this taken from, from the cities, or the small villages??
Surely it could not possibly be the Belize City.
Perhaps taking a trip to the hospital or actually have some knowledge of the crimes reported to the department may suggest otherwise.

    Now, let’s try again Crispin.
Hopefully you will get your information right the second time or you will continue to lie to the people in your defence.

COMPOL C (maybe for clown) Jeffries needs to go back to school and learn maths… this da only reason to have crime stats down… C Jeffries cant count good!!

  7. j.d says:

President Obama please send some one to investigate our Police force as they are the ones responsible for the murders, drugs and weapons on the street. Most important, the Grenades on the street was given out by a certain police officer to gave them to a gang to sell. Please help us! Please don’t the innocent life of Teddy Murillio go without justice. As a sign of respect to him, for the first time in Belize, schools and churches are closed down to observer the brutal muder of this innocent young man Teddy Murillo. The entire country knows that the police are responsible, when will they stop

  8. karol says:

COMPOL will be retiring in a couple of months. And then we are going to blame the New COMPOL whoever he is! You see we need a clearly identifiable individual to put the blame on. But the truth is the cOMPOL is not to blame. Its us! We Belizeans who tolerate our society to fall. Stop pointing fingers and start doing something. Yes You! Can we please stop blaming the Police! Yes the police is responsible to protect us. But what about the people that they are protecting us from? What are we as a people doing to sort out those people? Crime is increasing therefore the police must step it up, but the crime is being committed by us, or people we know, and we are just turning a blind eye. STOP IT!!!!!

  11. david says:

I guest that we will blame Ian Alamia strangling his wife in Chicago on Jefferies also. And the Belizean that killed an entire familiy in Quintanaro Mexico last week including young children. Dont you see that it is us..we Belizeans. We are not whom we used to be. We have turned into a cold blooded people. And thats a fact! lets be real. We no longer care for community and neighbours. But I guest that we will blame Jefferies for this also.

  12. drummy says:

Maybe we need to go back to the past. Our own are not compitent in running the Police force. Bring back the white man and take it from there. We also need better training from the training school in Bmp.The cops of today supposedly are brighter than the cops in the 70’S and 80’s, but these cats of today sure do not have no common sense whatsoever.

  13. Zoe says:

Don’t u see he might just be a part of the rogue cops! hence his trying to downplay crime stats in the country!
