This afternoon, charges against three well-known men were withdrawn at the request of the complainant, a high school student. Jiovanni Louriano, aka Nose, of Belize City, Marlon Harris, a resident of Mahogany Street Extension were both charged with carnal knowledge and Alex Devon Lyon, was charged aggravated assault upon a student. The DPP’s office withdrew the charges when the fifteen year old informed that she did not wish to proceed with the matter. On July eleventh, the minor left school and instead of going home she went to visit a friend, identified as Marlon Harris, aka Lippo. She claimed that Lauriano, her boyfriend, was at the house and she had sex with him twice and once with Harris. She also reported that she did not give in to Lyon.  While Harris and Lyon were free to go home, Louriano was taken back into custody since he is on remand for a firearm charge.

  6. c says:

a crime against a minor shouldn’t need the minor’s consent to proceed. Once reported, the goverment should take care to everything and ensure that not only justice is served but that the minor is protected against criminals and psychological effects.
shame on you DPP and GOB!!

  7. Dnice says:

The same should apply to other crimes, ‘c’. Too many killers are walking the streets because witnesses either fail to show for the traile (Through fear) or become ‘Hostile witnesses’ and cannot remember what happened to them, despite giving sworn statements at the time of the crime.

It’s as if the ‘First Belizeans’ don’t want criminals convicted. maybe they want to use them during General Elections as thier henchment, to ensure they get the votes, and opposition either daren’t make a move, or simply disappear!!! let’s see how many already in prison make parole in time for the next General Elections!!!!

Many people don’t understand what happens in the court system here in Belize. As a juror and a spectator, many times the prosecutor hands are tied when trying to convict a criminal. Those criminals that Lawyer up knows that people like tricky dickey can get them off on the slightest possible error made by the prosecution. Witnesses make statement and then when court day come along they back off….because of being threatened or just a change of mind. The prosecutor builds his/her cause on eyewitness account. And when a witness…or even the victim in some cases take the stand and say “i cannot recall”. This is an outright slap in the face of the law and our justice system. The prosecutor must also work with the limited resourses of uneducated police officers in gathering and securing his evidence. Like all human beings, it hurt them too to see these criminals walk free but the justice system will only work when people stop being afraid to testify about what they see.

  10. Birdman says:

All of this nonsense stems from a wholly and totally incompetent Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl Lynn Branker-Taitt. Since she has taken office, many criminals have walked because of her incompetence and inability to do her job.
Her prosecution success it is almost invisible with respect to her failures, and are dwarfed by other prosecutors in her office with far better success rates. And yet she gets to cherry pick which cases she prosecutes!
She is lazy, and just sitting there like a queen bee collecting her salary whilst putting in the minimal effort.
The question must be asked, when such astounding incompetence being so visible, why does she still hold office? Why have the government failed to act?

“She claimed that Lauriano, her boyfriend, was at the house and she had sex with him twice and once with Harris. She also reported that she did not give in to Lyon.” These are a bunch of criminals on the loose! no doubt about it but where are this minor’s morals. For God sake you don’t give in easily to two men at the same time.
