Police are investigating the death of a two year old girl whose body was retrieved from a canal right in front of her home today.  The child was reported missing by her family last night. Marion Ali files a report on this tragic story.

Marion Ali, Reporting

It is still not clear how two year old Sheyli Castro ended up in this canal in front of her home but at around eleven this morning her body was discovered by police at around eleven this morning.  Her mother was too emotional to talk on camera but said the little girl was playing in their yard off Holy Emanuel Street behind the Complex Building around three on Thursday afternoon just prior.  Her grandmother who was babysitting her, only went inside to check on the stove and when she came back outside the child was missing.

This morning police found the child’s body in this canal in front of her house.  Investigations are just now underway and a post mortem will conclude whether police will charge anyone and what those charges will be.  Marion Ali for News Five.

Sheyli is also survived by her six year old sister.

It is always so sad to hear these types of stories. If anything can be learned, it may be that you don’t take your eyes off little children for a minute.

kids are so “busy” these days you can’t leave them unattended not even for a second. it’s better to make them a part of your chores and keep them in hindsight. i hope the family is coping well with this loss, losing a child is a very hard thing.

Another reckless case of parenting here, how many times has this same thing happened to families in Belize?
It is common sense that one should now walk away and leaves a two year old alone to play inside a home or outside the home.
Kids are very curious and will wonder away in seconds if not under supervision.
How long with this grandmother gone?
It doesn’t matter how long she had left the child alone outside the home to play, she was gone one minute too darn long.
I say lock her up, unfortunately this punishment will not bring back the child.

it really make me feel sad to see a young child die like that with the neglect of the parents. this angel might have been a lady of importance to our society, now she’s gone to the Lord in a very short life span.

this is a very sad story, when you become a parent your job never end, so why was this child left on attended don’t we all know that children are always into some thing, this poor little girl didn’t get the chance to live a life on her own because some one was too busy to watch her, i think who ever was watching the child should be punished, people watch your children they wasn’t ask to be born, rest in peace little angel.
