Mayor Moya Flowers’ PI postponed
The preliminary inquiry for charges against Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers, the City Administrator Kiran Vanjani and Administrative Assistant Kiran Bhudrani was set to begin today. The Mayor was present in court, but her attorney, Michael Peyrefitte, was before Justice Troadio Gonzalez dealing with a murder trial and the PI proceedings had to be adjourned to May tenth. But there were two developments in the case during the short session. Sergeant Egbert Castillo informed the court that Director of Public Prosecutions may issue a directive for both charges against the mayor to be tried on indictment. Moya Flowers is charged with twenty-two counts of Uttering a False Document and two counts of Failure to Comply with City Regulations. The first offence was initially set to tried on indictment while the latter was to be dealt with summarily, but the DPP is now indicating that they may be handled jointly. The second development was the withdrawal of the charges against former Finance Director Dwain Davis since he is now deceased. Davis passed away after suffering a massive stroke as he left the courthouse on November fifth, 2009.
