Guatemalan woman tries to con Social Security Board

A Guatemalan woman who has lived in Belize for over ten years has been caught in a scam against the Social Security Board. Twenty-two year old Mirna Ramirez has been making claims from SSB for her son, but she tried to collect twice by using two different names. On August fourteenth 2009, Ramirez submitted a claim for her son using the name Joseph Murrillo and on that same day made another claim for the child using the name Joseph Santoya. But the child’s father, Leroy Murrillo reported to police that his son was being used to scam the Social Security Board and Ramirez was caught before any money was handed over. Under the Social Security Act in the laws of Belize, Ramirez was charged today with two counts of Making a False Statutory Declaration. Ramirez, who was not represented, pleaded guilty to both charges and a third is expected to be brought on Thursday. Meanwhile, the true name of Ramirez’s child has not been ascertained and she has been remanded at the Queen Street Police Station for the night.
We are seeing more and more women committing crimes in Belize as well.

at least she did not get away with it, see what happens when we report crimes, we get results but then this is small money. The ones that stole big money..the ones that gave away millions of Social Secuirty Money to politically connected people…they got away. See if you steal big you can grease the right wheels and smooth things for yourself…sad…

Well said Jesse…we fail to realize that this kind of scam happens everywhere all over the world and how much could she have possibly been claiming $20 a month..please give me a break.. go lock up the darn corrupted politicians that’s what they should do “dumb idiots”. And the bloody “Pa” weh gawn report I bet he was reaping some of the benefits before the woman dumped his sorry a.. she had to find a way to survive and feed her child.

As far as i am concern,this lady Ramirez could have being a Guatemalan taliban and the Social security staff would have still provided her with funds.

I am not saying that this kind of behavior is right theft is a punishable crime…I just don’t understand why stress the small stuff yes yes charge her for the crime but lawd with some people talk about deport and call names like “pan de coco” that aint right man!
