Two walk from murder on claims that a confession was forced

A unanimous decision by a jury of twelve this evening has allowed two Belize City men to walk free of murder charges after four years of remand at the Hattieville Prison.  Aaron King and Llewelyn Williams were both found not guilty of the murder of Russian national Alexei Golouber whose badly decomposed body was found inside an apartment on Third Street in the King’s Park area on January third, 2006.  Golouber was reportedly stabbed numerous times to the face and back and left for dead four days prior to being discovered by Pamela Pyne, the landlord’s daughter.  King and Williams originally admitted to taking part in the murder.  A caution statement was given by Williams in which he told police that on the night of December thirty-first, 2005 he visited Golouber at home.  Williams allegedly said that while at the residence an incident ensued whereby he hit Golouber over the head with a bottle before leaving.  King also said in his caution statement, that he killed the Russian and that he took police to where the murder weapon was hidden.  During trial before Justice Troadio Gonzalez, Williams gave a statement from the dock denouncing his involvement in the homicide.  King, in his defense, testified to being coerced into a confession by the police. Both statements were entered into evidence along with the knife that was allegedly used in the incident.  After deliberating for several hours the jury found both men not guilty of the charge.  King was represented in court by Michael Peyrefitte while Williams was defended by Ellis Arnold.
