In February 2002 Jermaine Fuentes, also known as Jermaine De Paz, was one of the Police Department’s most wanted fugitives in connection with the murders of Mark Ireland, Anthony “Trigger” Adderley, and the attempted murder of Joel Waight. He was never apprehended and while many thought that he had fled the country, his absence led one high-ranking police officer to frame another. In 2008 when pictures of skeletal remains surfaced, it was alleged that Senior Superintendent Chester William’ was involved and that the remains were those of Fuentes. Williams lashed out publicly, naming his rival colleague, Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster as the one behind the set-up. Williams said he could prove that the bones, which were unearthed somewhere off the Coastal Road, were those of another person, older than Fuentes and someone on whom an autopsy had been conducted because the skull had been neatly cut, such as in a post mortem examination. The allegation against Williams did not garner much attention but he was demoted and then sent off to Belmopan to a desk job and the rumors about Fuentes died almost as naturally as his supposed death. But tonight the police top brass is convinced that Fuentes is alive and is hoping that he will soon be returned home to face the list of charges against him. And that’s exactly what Police Commissioner, Crispin Jeffries says his Department is working on.

“The Police Department has long known that Jermaine Fuentes was alive. This is not the first time that we’ve gotten requests for concrete information as to what the Belize Government or the Belize Police Department to deal with Jermaine Fuentes and we are again being asked to provide that information. We’ve done it in the past and we’re doing it again and we believe that if the information and the persons within the United States who are assisting us can prove to the authorities there, Jermaine Fuentes may be returned to Belize.”

“Because it is not the first time he has been taken into custody in the US. Jermaine Fuentes was involved in a number of incidents. Our records show that he was arrested, charged, escaped, and is wanted on warrants.”
It was not revealed to us which state Fuentes is in or whether he is serving time abroad, but his rap sheet goes way to 2001 when Fuentes was able to allude the long arms of the law.
This lette is for the Belize police Department and to the Chief Commissioner, I am Jermaine Sister answer this queston why if you and your deparment have known all these years that my brother have been alive and in the USA did your department not announce this knowledge during Officer Wiliams statements. Second of all when was those incident and criminal activity occured in he USA becase my brother never been to the USA and never had or have any criminal activity abroad. Your department statemets were only limited information to the press, I believed very much that the body remain that was found were that of my Brother, I believe Offcer Williams statements are and is true. Should the alleged person abroad is my brother I know for a fact when or once he has been trune over to the Belizean Police my brother will not live pass a year in police custody.
I find it very hard to believe that my brother would be over in th USA for so longa never contacted any family members. Why not have all the facts before making without poof are these so call new information to distract Belizea from seeing how your department do have some corrupted cops working under your leadership are you trying to shadow away for the recent incident were an officer shot an innocent man in the head in Belize who is still in the hospital. This so call new formation about my brother it sounds really strange to me wow so sudden, but yet your statements were that your department been aware of Jermaine being abroad, why not inform the public. What State in the US and why now ,I’m not saying my brother is or were a saint.

It’s ashame how quick the Government of Belize extradite Belizeans to the US to face criminal charges and can’t even get this clung back to Belize.

Belize needs to submit to the United States, bet they can moe this country forward we got no reall leader here al we got is BLOOD SUCKERS that make off with our money and no show for it, srap all this goverment thing here let this country become a part of the US bet things would be more better.

I think that the Belize Police Department is doing an incredible job. we have to consider a lot of factors that contribute to getting a job done and at the end of the day, the Department is functioning and performing with very little human resources as well as materials needs execute the job.
I feel that they are compromising and making do with they have. It’s easy for us to sit on the outside and criticise and judge, and that’s understandable because all we see on the news is what the police are “allegedly” not doing, the good that they are doing are never highlighted…an article is never written about all the time and efforts and sacrifices made by these men and women every day, all day.
sure, there are bad apples in the baskets, but what about the good ones that are busting their a….. everyday and night to try and fix it? when will they be recognized for their hard labour and good work…?
I am personally afraid to have Jermaine come back to Belize. They bound to mess up the case and have another Nolle Pros on our hands and Fuentes will be back on the streets of Belize in no time. Betta he stays in the US cause our police and judicial system is a big joke!
Following up on Concerned Citizen’s comment… come on Channel 5, do a documentary of the day in a policeman/woman’s life patrolling the dangerous streets of Belize City. Let’s have some footage of their crime labs, etc. We want to see the resources available and how they are used. Find out how the officer survives on the salary and have the viewers question whether the demands of the job is commensurate with the wages. Ask the officer how he/she feels about the bombardment of negative criticisms in the media …

Well Concerned obviously the good ones are like finding a needle in a haystack maybe that is why we only hear about the bad. I have yet to have a good experience when I have to deal with the Police dept. Have you ever had to go there to do any business, you have to stand quietly and wait while they finish their personal conversation on their cell phone, they don’t even have the intelligence to ask you if they can help you when you walk into the building. As far as I see it they are all completely USELESS!!!!!! So if you think the Police Department is doing an incredible job you must be dealing with another Belize Police Department that the rest of us don’t know about.

Not the first Bzn to escape to America & he won’t be the last. Our main consolation is that if they are screw ups in Belize, it is only a matter of time b4 they are back in the same life no matter where they are & end up deported back to Belize. Like most of you, I am concerned about our ability to successfully prosecute anyone. It is almost a disappointment to know that a dead alleged criminal has been resurrected. The story is better when criminals who beat the system fear being picked up by the police & disappearing forever.

Who was Mark Ireland? Be very careful when it comes to judging another person. You try to take a speck out of someone’s eye when you have a plank in yours. Lady S you are carrying a lot of hatred and if you really know the truth you would have a different perspective.
I am saddened by all the crimes taking place in our jewel , we must stand together as Belize loving citizens and see justice pass on those criminals ,and not be covering our relatives if they are truely criminals and you know it, unless you are beneficieries of their crimes ,
And about our Police department , you try giving a Mechanic a car to overhaul with just pliars , screwdriver, vicegrip,adjustable and hammer and see what kinda job you get ; if you have the least idea about repairing of cars ,you will understand what our Brave Officers are up against .
