A resident of the Salvapan Area in Belmopan is hospitalized after a brutal attack on Wednesday night. Thirty-three year old Sebastian Ico was out socializing and police believe he may have gotten into a confrontation before heading home. On his way home at around ten p.m. Ico was wounded, presumably with a machete, on Panama Street. Police have not yet taken a statement from Ico because he is not well enough to speak, but Officer Commanding Belmopan Police, Superintendent Aaron Guzman told News Five via phone today that his chances of survival have improved since the incident.
Via Phone: Supt. Aaron Guzman, O.C., Belmopan Police
“As the investigation has shown so far, seemingly he was attacked by maybe more than one person but because of his condition we weren’t able to speak to him. We are only going by some account of witnesses so far. Last night Mr. Ico was in a critical condition but just a few minutes ago, the investigating officer Corporal Cob, visited him at the hospital and the doctor informed him that he was in a still critical but stable condition so seemingly he is going to make it but he is not able to be interviewed by the police as yet because doctors instructions come first and we are not able to interview him properly. The injuries that the police noted on him last night were a large cut wound seemingly from a machete on the back of the right shoulder and a large cut wound to the left rib cage. Apparently that was the one that had the doctors doing some surgery on his intestines. We know that he was drinking with two other persons. We know those persons, we have spoken to one of them. Our information was that it wasn’t a case of robbery. Seemingly it could have been some previous misunderstanding and that person just took the opportunity to attack Mr. Ico.”

“Okay, you mentioned that you questioned someone; apart from that no one has been detained or anything?”
Via Phone: Supt. Aaron Guzman
“No, we have spoken to other persons from the area but no one has been detained for this chopping incident. But the one gentleman that we knew was drinking with Mr. Ico, we have spoken to him and recorded a statement from him.”

I am still content that my hometown is still not infested with crimes, and murders like in the city or else where.
Once in a while something comes up though and usually it happens in that same region of Belmopan, Salvapan.
well aliens again, they came in dah salvapan and turn it into wah lee guatemala, dah so dem live da melchor, bars, drinking, prostition, and killing. Believe me thing will not get better dah salvapan, they should change the name killerpan.
you! macal watch your mout!!!!!! because of the alien we are eating ok? you stupid!! who work hard huh? where does 80% percent of stuff come from? huh? alien again, you never learn how to live with people, you stupid without class, you really need to be educated!!!!!!!!!!
To Vels, it is stupid people like you that make Belizeans more lazy, same example that is going on in the US. People want cheap labor, but the cnsequences are much higher, i.e, crime rate that they commit. Before they came into Belize killing was almost unheard of, these people are accustomed to this type of life.
i’m with the comment from sasha too.
i doubt that macal, vels, and Sasha have been to the Salvapan Area in Belmopan. How can you form an opinion when you have not been there. Every community has its rough areas but to bring down the entire community, race, or country of origin is not fair. I am happy we can post our opinions but sometimes people type without thinking. And i have been to Salvapan. I stayed there over the weekend for the 2010 Agri weekend! And i would stay there again, i met lovely people who say goodnight or goodday to you when you are walking down the streets, something i wish i would get in my hometown..San Pedro…
At least we more safe here in BMP than in the city. N stop d racism. We always need from each other. And don’t compare cause there is a huge amount between races. Blame the government that in position now i bet it was a bunch of weed smoking kids that did the crime. Police should be patrolling more often those areas. i know mines is safe. n its majority are Hispanic people.
ok! i read all your comment. its a shame that you all make don’t think before you type, i live in Salvapan, and i am not an alien, i am a full blooded belizean!!!!!. You guys don’t even know what you are talking about. don’t be judemental. salvapan is much more peaceful than Belize city!!!! what you think? and mostly belizeans live there so get your facts straight macal rivera!!!!! don’t go accusing and name calling. this gentleman is always around the palce on the street so he got what was coming. not that i am praising the person who did it cause we are all humans, but what im saying is that if you behave and don’t be getting on peoples nerves there is 1/100 chance that you will end up like these people.
Ask the teachers from the Belmopan schools who have been some of the best students they have ever had. They will reply STUDENTS FROM SALVAPAN. Discriminatory statements only show ignorance and racism towards “aliens”. After all, aliens are we all – except MAYANS.
It’s unbelievable that all this stupidity comes out of peoples mouth… In first place what Jennie said is true …. most valedictorians and academic students come from ” SALVA PAN” and if you ask anyone who grew up in that village it was the best life ever and for many people it still is…Crime didn’t start when, like you call them” aliens” came around. It’s been there, just wasn’t in the daily news. Everywhere in the world life is the same no matter what. Don’t compare Belize to the US cause they way i see it, Belize is still probably 80% perfect compared to the US. Instead of being judgemental.. why don’t we pray for our people and for a fruitfull government, which we desperately need…
I have been reading and I can’t believe that my fellow belizeans can express themselves the way they do. ” Closed minded” We are children of our fathers. Whatever you are raised to be is influenced highly by how our parents brought us up to be. If you guys are hating. You are not doing any good. I grew up in salvapan. There was always somethng going killings burglary etc. same as everywhere. That did not stop me from being diffrent. Aliens is what we were called just because our parents were from Guatemala and El Salvador Honduras and even Nicaragua, but one thing I can assure most people in Salvapan have a place to call a home of their own. You can only get it if you work hard. If you are lazy and don’t want to work, you are as bad as any immigrant doomed to fail in life here, there and everywhere. Coming from a large extended family of over 200 relatives in Salvapan and San Martin all alive and living well. All thanks to the hard work of our parents. So peace love and respect comes from home not from the NAMES given to communities. Que importa de donde vengas lo imortante es A Donde vas.
