  1. Islander says:

    No….they can’t even tackle gargabe

  2. Sasha says:

lol @ Islander, true thing. Crime prevention is a community event, not just law enforcement or gov’t. issue. i.e. If you see someone robbing your house, will you call the police or attack this fool immediately with a machete, gun, knife or anything else that will stop his actions?

  3. fugi says:

Even though I personall do not trust the belize city council, or the mayor, I must applaude thier effort to gather the community to combat crime, as a citizen of the jewel it really saddens me to read of all the happenings back home, and it is time for the community to stand up and say ” ENOUGH”, so this summit is a good start, when people work together, a lot of things can and WILL happen, I am willing to play a role in this effort, we belizean that are living abroad should also unite in effort to help our country,so we should stay in contact through this medium and gather ideas or any type of support for those back home who will stand up to reclaim BELIZE.

  4. Mary says:

How can the mayor be tackling crime when she herself is before the court for mishandling of money? Corruption after corruption has rocked this present city council, and the basic services that the council should be providing is non-exsistent! Those are the things that she should be addressing, this is just a ploy by her to try and clean up her image. Anything came from her economic summit?? You know the answer to that…

  5. Darius Martinez says:

I agree with islander, if they cannot tackle garbage much less crime.

  6. Manford says:

The only way to cure a sicknes is to find the cause, its the reason why doctors does test to determine th e cause of the illness. The same goes for crime in Belize or any other country for that matter. Ask a million different indivduals for the solution and a million different answer will be given. For those who have strong belief in the Bible, would, or might quote the Bible that says, train a child in the way he/she shold go and when they are old they will not depart from such training. There is some reality to that, but it is no guarantee since we have seen individuals with good family background that has become menace to society. We can only try our level best to reach those that are reachable, and those that cannot be salvage will have to pay the price for their distructive behavour.

  7. Conflict Theorist says:

A day seldom passes in Belize without the media unfolding a grizzly, horrible story of murder, rape or assault of one or more of our citizens who yielded to trust and faith and paid for that trust with their life. .

I like that the Mayor went and brought together many of the social agencies to that summit (or conference). But seriously, they look very good on t.v with thier fancy presentations but who are they really kidding… They can barely keep our city clean! If they can barely do something so small how can they tackle something so big??? So I say hell NO! Now, apart from the council whom we kinow for a fact will not be able to do such a task, I would like to address those social agencies that attended that meet.

You all need to put more effort into effective plans of action. There is more need to engage in social and political action that seeks to ensure that all people have equal access to the resources, employment, services, and opportunities they require to meet their basic human needs and to develop fully. Secondly, be aware of the impact of the political arena on practice and advocate for changes in policy and legislation to improve social conditions in order to meet basic human needs and promote social justice.

Many people are scared going to court as witnesses because of fear of death. Help the police in providing protection assistance…I know that I throw some serious blows to the police officers and government officials but gosh you all need to to pull your weight (You all have fallen under the term of “social incompetence”). Social organizations have taken a backseat, honestly, I did not even remember that we had social organizations with all the crime. All we knew were police officers and Perdomo. Step it up! We want to see more community invololvement, summer is coming up, schools will be out, use these things as opportunties. Try and get involve with school management in implementing clubs during school hours or after school programs. There is a high need for entrepreneurs (bring some of the programs by Youth for the Future into the schools).

You all are the ones that I feel are best equipped to go more into the community and create more of a change than the officers. Keep the children’s minds going, do competitions or teach a skill, Man just do something. I am sure that you all will say that oh, we work so hard. Nobody wants to hear that. “Don’t tell me how hard you work. Tell me how much you get done!” – Break the silence.

And I end off with this last quote to officers, social agencies, media and government officials, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. The true neighbor will risk his position, his prestige and even his life for the welfare of others. In dangling valleys and hazardous pathways, he wil lift some bruised and beaten brother to a higher and more noble life.” – David Wilkerson

Sorry my comment was so long but I felt the need to speak my mind. Well that’s what commentaries are for. What the heck. lol

Sincerely, 20 year old belizean chick

  8. Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
