Police and B.D.F. officers targeted by gunmen
The police check point at the Belizean Beach entrance at mile four on the Western Highway came under fire on Sunday night. A police constable from the Criminal Investigations Branch was stationed at the booth along with two B.D.F. soldiers, Privates Julian Coc and Fidelio Canti. At a quarter to two that morning a hail of bullets came from the nearby bushes targeting the booth and all officers ran for cover inside. The B.D.F. soldiers returned fire and the shooters eventually retreated into the bushes. It was clearly a targeted attack because apart from the expended shells, police found a pair of binoculars and two machetes in the bushes. As to why the officers at the booth would be targeted is a question yet to be answered, according to police press officer Fitzroy Yearwood.

“CIB personnel responded to a call, a report actually of a shooting at the Western vehicle checkpoint, that’s at the Belizean beach. Upon arrival, PC Fuller that was posted there along with two B.D.F., explained to them that shots were being fire at them, from persons believed to have been in the bushes. At the same time, Reginald Young and Elvin Torres who were travelling in a vehicle, stopped at the checkpoint a little after the shooting and they claim they were inquiring about the safety of the police officer. Nevertheless, both men drove off in a pickup truck and police arrived at the checkpoint that assisted PC Fuller. They set chase behind this vehicle. This vehicle was eventually caught at the Hattieville roundabout where Mr. Torres and Young were detained. Since then, after proper investigations both men have been released. At first the police officers thought that these men were involved with the persons that were in the bushes Friday night.”

“Well, I don’t know if they stayed in the bushes but the police believe that after the firing stopped, the persons may have moved away from the area.”

“Apart from Mr. Young and Mr. Torres, no one else was detained?”

“No, no one else from that area.”
Perhaps someone wants to show the police department that the people are tired of police officers killing innocent people and getting away with it.
I think dat’s more of a lovers issue. Because there are many police officers who love to deal with other guys woman , wife…. and be macho about the idea. how will the gun men no to ask for the officer on duty by name…..? think its time enough for civilians to target the crooked police officers…clean them out one by one.
as of recent almost every night you hearing the news reporting about some bull…performed by police. Thus the department needs to stop cover up their wicked deeds and make it known to the public, treat them as equal as a civilian.(punishment). plus place them on suspension with 25% pay if u want to pay them but not 100% or 75% ; that’s is as good as placing them on vacation with pay. they need to learn the hard way. when officers apply for study leave they r place on 75% – 80% and not 100% so dats pretty unfair for a murdered to get such preference.
Not to be against the police officers but they deserve whatever comes to them because they are doing a lot of r….. Just good for them so they could feel how it is when you under fire.

Man, not all police dem deserve bad treatment, some of them are honest folks, and without police we would be like the Old West lol.
Maybe Mr Barrow is going to wake up now because these guys are sending a serious message to them.this just show that no one is immune to the crime situation that is facing our Jewel.Mr Barrow needs to do some real extermination work.The Jewel has passed the infestation stage .You can’t use any peroxide to deal with this crime situation Mr Barrow because you’ve ignored it for so long that you’re going to need some Antibiotics.
Is it possible that the shooting up of the Police boot at the checkpoint, and the two men in the vehicle asking about the Police officers and then speeding off, which ultimately lead to a high speed chase, was just a diversion. I’m saying this as the Police abandoned their post to chase after these men, leaving the checkpoint open for anyone or anything to pass freely. After all they they found nothing on these men, so why were they running from the Police in the first place? That seems strange. I know that the Mexican Drug Cartels use these kinds of diversion/ tactics all the time to pass their large shipment into the US all the time.

And as for belizean queen u are so right there too i know a lot of police officer that lock up man in the cell block to go deal with there woman for the night whilst on duty . so thats a true statement as well . But over all i dont think nobody should loose there life foolishly.
Stop with the bs of police locking up another man so he can be with his wife. If the lady loved the man enough, she would not go with anyone not even for money. Sex by force is Rape.
As far as the shooting scenario, the attackers either wanted to go rob the compound or was a distraction to get away with drugs/ammunition when crossing the check point. Sometimes innocent people are killed but when the police detain criminals we are all happy while putting their life in danger for these FOOLS.
