From Yes to I Do Channel 5 will follow you down the isle
The sensational KTV Latino was a huge hit and we are now in full gear for another promising entertainment show. Our debut edition of reality wedding ‘From Yes To I Do’ kicks off tonight as Julio Escalante and Vanessa Ramos prepare to make that important commitment in life. The one-hour show starts immediately following Caribbean Newsline right here on Channel Five. But Marion Ali visited with the couple today, and discovered that while they are looking forward to the big day, they are grieving the loss of a loved one.

Three years – that’s how long Julio Escalante and Vanessa Ramos have been together. And as Vanessa said, they hope to make their marriage work through communication. The couple will make their life-long commitment to each other live on Channel Five’s Reality Wedding dubbed “From yes to I do, Channel 5 will follow you”. And the date is set for August twenty-first when they will make that important walk down the isle, and settle down with their first child, seven-month old Alyssa.
But before the big day arrives, already Julio and Vanessa are facing challenging times. It has to do with the loss of his sister, Alicia Escalante, who lost her battle with a long illness on Saturday. Alicia was looking forward to attending the wedding but ailing health did not allow it. Now the couple must momentarily set aside their wedding plans to bury her. It’s a tragedy that has put a damper on their plans.

“We mi just finally get the bridal book fi start picking out the dresses fi the bridesmaids and really this weekend was hmm, never had no energy fi start, no energy fi pick out, just really sad in the family. Just today when they called us we kinda feel wah lee betta but still feel down, you know, depressed. May her soul rest in peace.”
Julio Escalante, Getting Married
“She mi di look forward to the big day and we mi really want ih deh deh. Den ih just slow down everybody.”
Vanessa Ramos
“It was a surprise actually because we really expect mi fi deh deh. We had plans with her seating, we had plans with her being there. Just before she seh “Noh worry, I wah dance fi your wedding” and…”
Marion Ali
“Other plans have been made.”
Julio Escalante
“Ih deh somewhere better.”
As the couple grieves and prepares to bury Alicia on Wednesday, they are comforted that she supported them tying the knot, and now that’s what they will work towards. So, we asked them how they are dealing with the finer details, from picking the colours to writing the invitations.
Vanessa Ramos
“We have one set colour weh we want, pink, but dehn explain to us that we have to get colours weh the camera wah ketch good, soh right now wi di try switch the colours, which dah wah thing with he because I switch my colour to lime green, pink and gold but he want fi he pink and white.”
Marion Ali
“What you want to wear and what colour?”
Julio Escalante
“Yeah I want wear pink and white or white and pink but at the same time we have to match.”
Marion Ali
“So your plan B would be what?”
Julio Escalante
“We wah see weh wah match.”
Vanessa Ramos
“With the invitations we had to sit down and write something real nice fi put eena the invitations. Ih mi really tek we wah good while fi do. We mi want something nice and romantic fi put in. Soh we sit down and the two ah we mi di try decide pan something but we just couldn’t get it soh when he mi di sleep I just decide fi look eena some cards, cause I used to like write him poems and so when we first started dating. So I look eena di cards and I find one sweet poem weh I mi did write ah weh I mi really like.”
Marion Ali
“You never got wah problem with that Julio, did you?”
Julio Escalante
“Noh got wah problem at all.”
Marion Ali
“She waited til you were asleep.”
Julio Escalante
“Noh ih mi good.”
Marion Ali
“You agree with that?”
Julio Escalante
“Yeah.”
And while Julio compromised with Vanessa’s words for the invitation, there is at least one grey area that we discovered they don’t agree on.
Vanessa
“He wanted to put it as an all-adults only reception and I really couldn’t agree with that because I’m all about family. I want my family there but so far…”
Marion Ali
“So how did that go?”
Julio Escalante
“We still noh really get to the bottom ah dat yet.”
Vanessa Ramos
“Yes we get some ways but noh fully.”
Marion Ali
“Unu get deh or unu noh get deh?”
Vanessa & Julio
“Halfway.” (both laugh)
Until they work out how the reception plans, one thing is for sure and that is this daddy’s unyielding love for his baby daughter.

And just in case you were wondering what the two lovebirds will make as their wedding dance, it is “Lifetime” by Prophet Jones.
