MK Fast Food and Ice Cream parlor catches fire

fireA late afternoon fire in Belize City partially destroyed a popular fast food restaurant.  The National Fire Service was called to MK Fast Food and Ice Cream at the corner of Euphrates Avenue and Orange Street sometime after four o’clock where they found the lower flat of the two storey building on fire.  It is believed that the blaze may have started in the kitchen area by a stove that was saturated with cooking oil.  According to officials from the fire department, they were able to contain the fire within ten minutes of responding to the scene.  Though the building was not totally destroyed, the kitchen sustained heat damage to its ceiling and several electrical appliances were also ruined in the fire.

  1. News Tip says:

A similar incident happened in the south but that didn’t make the news. That one was a real tragedy since the entire house is now in ashes. A second house was saved thanks to quick response from the villagers who managed to save the second house with only minor damages. If we had a rapid response fire department or even fire hydrants, their is a high probability the house could have been saved. The government should consider investing resources into having a fire department in rural areas or some mechanism in place to be prepared for disaster like that in Toledo.

Surprisingly, news like this don’t make it in the news but again, Toledo is always the forgotten district. Reasons: far south, werent’ told, didn’t know about it, etc. Maybe the city news outlets should invest in an associate press reporter not only based in PG but in rural areas. There are many news worthy stories that don’t make it in the national news. It is not always crime or governmental issues, but sometimes social issues, tragedies, cultural stories, educational programs, life history stories, and the list goes on. That is why I endorsed the Toledo Howler, unfortunately, its a quarterly newsletter.
