City Administrator says CitCo finance unit is investigating missing money

On Wednesday night Belize City Councillor, Kevin Singh, revealed that there were no accounting of monies which vendors at the Queen Square Market had been paying into City Hall’s Finance Department towards their arrears for stalls.  Singh explained that the Finance Department at City Hall could give him no satisfactory account about the monies the vendors have pad towards their outstanding bills.  In fact, while he admits the vendors have receipts, the total outstanding bill for stall rentals remain at a whopping one hundred and seventy four thousand dollars for the period preceding his term as the Councilor responsible for markets.  The vendors, he explained, were supposed to be paying five dollars a day, or one hundred and twenty five dollars a month, but some had been paying at least double that amount and others up to three hundred and ten dollars monthly, to clear their debts.  Today we called the City Administrator, Dr Kiran Vanjani, who told us that she heard the Councilor’s comments and that the Finance Unit is investigating the case. Because each of the seventy odd vendors’ accounts would have to be processed, Vanjani told us that it will be a painstaking exercise that will likely take weeks.  But just in case you missed it, here is the gist of the problem that Councilor Singh explained.

Kevin Singh, City Councillor, Belize City (May 12th, 2010)

“Instead of paying one month’s rent, they are paying like two months and a half so eventually the balance was supposed to come down instead of coming up.”

“But you said the balance hasn’t decreased.”

Kevin Singh

“Well it hasn’t decreased, it shows that they owe one hundred and seventy-four thousand dollars. And when I went in to try and find out, there was a lot of miscommunication inside the finance department. So I decided not to get into that problem while I am here, is to let them pay what they are supposed to pay.  I went to check and I couldn’t find out where the money was going.”

Marion Ali

“There was no record to show?”

Kevin Singh

“I wasn’t shown no record. All I was told is that sometimes the money goes to sundries. That means they don’t know where the money comes from; if it’s from markets, from liquor license or something so they call it sundries. I’m going to let you know right now that we were having this problem still of the last two or three months lately. Whenever I go out there I would check the people’s arrears, I would take some of their receipts in and we still have this problem where some of their receipts goes to sundries, some goes to their accounts, some goes to someone else’s account and their names are on their receipt.”

News Five will check back with the Council’s Finance Department in a couple weeks time.

We all know where that money has gone, Boys & Girls, don’t we? But she is on a “Mother Theresa” crime busting crusade, so we can’t mention her name.

I’ll give you a clue – “Z” – and that’s not the mark of Zorro!

For many years moya has been stealing the Belizean people and noting has been done, its no surprise that tha money that gone missing she has to see about it too,we heard about the “UNDERDEPOSITING” afew months ago that was another amount of money that gone missing, and that case is still pending in the court….and it will just disappear like a lee breeze ! she is the mayor and she is a UDP,and the UDP Gov’t will not do anything to hurt her image, because moya knows a lot of other UDP ministers involved in corruption and they are afraid she would talk, and everything will come out to light as is by now -the mayor paid a good amount of extra salaries and many other expences not approved by the city council and she was asked to return the extra cash, and she hasn’t done that. That money can be used to keep more areas of the city clean,do more for make the city look atractive but it will not because she is a “CHUPACABRA”. she should resign.the city is in a mess under the MOYA\UDP administration, and more scandals are about to come to light.just watch and see 1
