PUP calls for removal of Carlos Perdomo as Minister of Natl Security

The People’s United Party also called for the removal of Carlos Perdomo as Minister of National Security and says structural changes within the top brass of the Police Department are urgently needed.

John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition

“When you start to lose confidence in, in an organization, like in this case in the issue of national security, you need to change leadership.  In this case, the Prime Minister must fire Minister Perdomo.”

Isani Cayetano

“Do you believe that replacing the Minister of National Security is enough to address a growing problem; a problem that’s of much concern, grave concern that is, to most Belizeans?  There’s that feeling of not being safe in the streets of the city, not being safe even at home.  Do you think that by replacing the minister that would sort of address or create an initial solution to this problem?”

John Briceño

“Well it is certainly a start because we’ve been saying it for some time that, unfortunately, Minister Perdomo has been unable to provide the necessary leadership that we need in the present situation that is confronting us. But also, the Prime Minister of Belize needs to understand that this a national crisis and as the prime minister he has to lead the efforts and that is the next point that I would like to make that it is about time that the prime minister steps forward and inform the Belizean people that now he is going to take charge and start to provide some necessary leadership as to how we’re going to deal with the crime situation in Belize. The Police Department is here to enforce the law and to protect the citizens and over the past months weve been hearing some horrendous stories about what is going on within the Police Department.  So you need to start, as I said earlier, with leadership and that when the leadership is not being provided then you need to change your leadership.”

Isani Cayetano

“Since it begins from the top in terms of addressing the root of the problem within the department do you believe, in your opinion, that the department is better at this point under the stewardship of the commissioner?

John Briceño

“Well everybody would tell you that Commissioner Jefferies has been a very good operations man and the people in the know, the people that have had the experience with Mr. Jefferies knew that Mr. Jefferies would have had problems in managing the Police Department.  But leadership starts from the top that once the leadership that you have is not performing you change it and you bring in a new management team.”

You need to fire carlos perdomo, and the entire police department leaders as well, if any good was being done as good leaders then why do we keep seeing the same bullshit day in and day out.
The department do not need good leaders, it need great leaders, and if you can find one great leader in Belize that would be the first.

Scapegoat, every department needs one to take the fall..

I actually agree with the PUP here, BUT, under the PUP administration, almost every wrong-doing by Police Officers was swept under the carpet and rarely made headlines………

I am not a udp or a pup I am a Belizean. I will not let politics get in the way of what is the real problem. When I reflect on my country that God is just and his justice cannot sleep forever. I am not interested in corruption of people who considers themselves above the law. Greed is the inventor of injustice as well as the current enforcer. They only use their thoughts to justify their injustice and speech to disguise their thoughts. For what does politics consist except the making of imperfect decisions, many of them unjust and quite a few of them deadly. But after the change of the first government, all the succeeding ones have in general is to proved one continued series of injustice Experience has shown how deeply the seeds of war are planted by economic rivalry and social injustice There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest against it. Since when do we have to agree with people to defend them from injustice. i believe that we need a change need one now because crime is not limited to anyone now in Belize they killed Aubrey Lopez the mayor of Belmopan son. that just show you nobody is safe in Belize and the minister commissioner nobody the address the problem why are they not doing their job or are they unfit to do it wake up belize open your eye Belize has a problem the minister or commissioner is not fit to handle

  9. mbrad says:

Carlos Perdomo, Minister of National Security, was a former teacher and now he’s a political dunce…
The PM knows Carlos Perdomo is incompetent as the Minister of National Security and needs to be remove but seems like the PM doesn’t want the country to think that he made a HUGE MISTAKE by Carlos Perdomo being Minister of National Security….

The crime problem which started in the old capital was ignored by the past and current govt. administrations.
The problem is now totally out of control because of the following (A) Lack of foresight and projection (B) burying their heads in the sand, (C) Refusing to admit that a crime was a problem by the past and current govt. administrations.
Current minister of natl security & head of police need to show responsibility by not only addressing the severity of the situation, but by implementing IMMEDIATE ACTION showing they mean business. Citizens will need need to shut up about police brutality until the problem is at least curbed and there is GUN CONTROL. Innocent citizens will need to put up with some roughing up by the police in order for the police to get some control of the thugs. The judicial system needs a total overhaul.
Everyone involved in the administration of the country from primeminister to police NEED URGENT TRAINING. Without any action the country will be up for grabs. This place is too small for the BLOODY MESS IT’s IN.

  11. Richard says:

I beleive that there is a great need for a review of both the BDF and the Police. The recent standoff at Benque leaves one to question if the Police can to that to a Commissioned Officer of the BDF what have they been doing to our civilians. Think about that!!

  12. James Joyce says:

Perdomo must resign. Period. Step down now. Put Boots there and let him stop hustling in Works. Remove two dodo birds with one stone. Put Jeffrries above Boots.
