Ex-cop stabbed six times by shoe thief
An ex-cop, who is now employed at Boundaries Store in Orange Walk, was stabbed six times this morning by a man who was reportedly trying to steal shoes. Roman Canul was rushed to Belize City for surgery at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he confronted the would-be thief and was brutally attacked in the store. Canul’s son Uriel was at home when the cops showed up at their door with the bad news. We met him as he waited for word on father’s condition at the K.H.M.H. and he told us what he knew of the incident.
Voice of: Uriel Canul, Son of Stabbing Victim
“It was about minutes to twelve this morning. We were at home and the cops arrived home they told us that my dad was stabbed. They don’t know what exactly happened, but they only asked for my mom and they said they came to pick her up because they were going to rush him to Belize. That was all we heard until we arrived at the hospital and they told us that he was still there, not stable but he couldn’t recognize anybody and they told us that he got stabbed six times. One on his knee, on his shoulder and I guess some on his belly side. All we heard is that there was this guy, this coolie looking man and he was theifing a shoes and they saw him. They told him about it and when they held him over, that was when he attacked.”

“How is he doing now since being transferred to Belize City?”
Voice of: Uriel Canul
“Right now he will undergo surgery because they don’t really know the effects of the damages they caused him. So he will undergo surgery to see extent of the damage.”

“You said he worked at a store, where exactly and doing what?”
Voice of: Uriel Canul
“He worked at the Boundary store and presently right now he was taking care of the store because the owner was not here, she was out of the country. So he was in charge of the store these days.”
Roman was a police officer until charges of handling stolen goods were brought against him and another constable Enrique Bacab in November of 2009. Those charges related to a stolen saw that the two allegedly sold to an Orange Walk resident.

It is sad and frustrating that people continue to get kill on the streets of Belize.
In this situation I cannot blame the taxi driver to refuse to take the bunch of teen to another destination late at night, taxi drivers have been brutally murdered in this same fashion. Instead of the teens walking away they initiated the outcome of this situation by throwing rocks at the driver of the taxi. Feared for his life he retaliated on the boy who did not run away with a machete.
This teen might not have been the one who threw the stones, but his friends ignorance caused this teen his death.
we need to arm ourselves with guns and shoot these …….. suckers thieves, they no sorry ffor we the law abiding citizens, so why should we feel sorry for them,, Shoot dem …. and kill dem.
