The family of eighty year-old Clifford Grant, of Oleander Street, is preparing to lay him to rest. Grant was beaten unconscious while at home last Friday by his own son. Sandra, Grant’s eldest daughter is celebrating her birthday today and despite the tragedy, she was in court when her brother Glenford was arraigned for murder and remanded to the Hattieville Prison until July first. When he arrived at court this morning he was shirtless and unrepresented. But what triggered the gruesome murder of the elderly man by his own son? This morning, Sandra told us outside the court that while Glenford’s mental state is under question, a doctor has certified that he is of sound mind. The elderly man was beaten in his living room by Glenford who wanted a shilling to buy a cigarette. A twelve year old minor claims she saw her uncle kicking and beating her grandfather. The young girl called the neighbors and when police arrived, they found Glenford sitting in the living room drinking a cup of tea. Clifford was rushed to the K.H.M.H, and succumbed to hemorrhage due head trauma on Saturday just before one o’clock. It is not Glenford’s first brush with the law. In January, he was released from prison after spending two years behind bars for beating up one of his sisters.
This is so tragic. How in the world can anyone much less a Doctor state that this individaul is in a sound state of mind. That Doctor is not in a sound state of mind to come to that conclusion. This person should have got some much needed mental help after being incarcerated for beating his own sister. Everyone should have seen that tragic day coming.
The guy is a repeat offender, And also the doctor found him of sound mine , and life goes on my sympathy goes out to the family.
MY GOODNESS! what is wrong with this person? Times like these is when the death penalty is necessary so people like him are no longer a nuisance to society.
Lord, people like this guy should spend their whole live in jail, shouldn’t como out from jail, because if he beat his sister and killed his Owen father, now if he comes out from jail he will continue killing people.

My sympathy goes out to the family of the deceased and also for Glenford. Even an idiot know that this kid is not wrapped too tight to commit such a violent crime against his own father. No one in his/her right frame of mind will sit and drink a cup of tea after violenly beating up anyone, muchless a parent. This kid’s first brush with the law had to do with violence to another family member and should not be considered as normal behaviour. The Doctor who certifide this young man as being in sound mind also need his/her cerebral cortex checked, because he/she is not wrapped too tight either for making such a certification. I have no authority to judge anyone, but I know for damn sure that this young man need mental treatment. Di bwai crazy Doc you noh understand dat? Weh school you gawn man?.

My sympathy to the family…. as they mentioned during their televised interview, he was a spoiled child… and unfortunately now all the family must suffer the consequences… This is just a reminder to ALL parents of the REAL dangers of spoling your own child.. Mr. Faber, some food for thought for your crusade against corporal punishment in primary schools…I was in the classrooms for so many years and have seen how many of us parents spoil our children then can’t stand them….We create our own (and society’s) monsters without realizing that down the line they will cause us great grief!! But alas….When we are warned about spoiling our “babies” all hell breaks loose..!!! “da my pickney… who da you fi tel me haw to raise my child?… mind u own bisnis…. no dare fi toch mi pickny… da yu wrang, no my pickney… es mi hijo y yo lo pari, asi que yo lo educo como YO quiera..” Then we hear about these children smokin pot, crack, getting pregnant before age, loitering, unemployed or underemployed, disrespectful, aggressive, turning to thieves, raping, burning themselves alive, becoming hardcore criminals…killing their own parents.. .. then we all say “WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH SOCIETY”, then we blame the police, the government, the media, ANYBODY… but not ourselves, when we were the ones that created the monsters we complain so much about… Careful… Iam not saying, the media,the police and the government are free of all fault!!! they all contributed to all this but it all started with POOR PARENTING…. Yes we as a society… we who run to human rights when our children are starting their criminal career….we who run to Patrick to stop corporal punishment in schools when teachers discipline our children in school (careful again… CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IS NOT CHILD ABUSE… as Patrick the politician wants us to believe)….. and we who yell POLICE BRUTALITY….. when the good elements of the police want to cut the wings of the criminals WE CREATED…. But how many of us are willing to take responsibility of our own mistakes… Messing our lives can be forgiven, but condemning our children to a lowlife because of poor parenting is unforgiven… And once that has happened both our children and US will suffer the consequences…
can’t you people understand all the social problems is about parenting!!! These parents have failed their children bigtime. as a grandmother I was raised in a strict enviorment, but loving home at the same time, I instill the same values to my ten children, and now I thank God my children have follow the same example and are raising their children on the same path, at this age of 75 years, I have reap what i sow, my children are reaping what they sow too, I have seven succcesful grand children, law abiding citizens, respectful of others and themselves. If I would born again after I die, wether corporal punishment is in place or not I would raise my children the same way.

I can’t even imagine what would make someone commit a heinous crime such as this against his Father.And i am going to say it again some of you might disagree with my statement.However i careless.I remain comitted to my previous statement that these criminals should be hung.What’s next these fools are going to start killing their mothers.It’s ashame what our Country has come to.People have no value for life anymore.Do you know how many days i wish that both of my parents were still alive.
If this guy could have had the guts to murder his own father! n still be at ease to sit down and have a cup of tea! i strongly think this guy should be put to rest just as how they put animals to sleep when they are too aggressive. This is such a tragedy my deepest of sympathy goes out to the rest of the family.
I’m with “Disgusted”…and in total agreement with those who say if he can beat his own sister and kill his own dad…who else he noh wa kill?
And as for these “doctors”…they must be the ones who barely made it thru medical school
