  1. Manford says:

Seem like a significant amount of the major crimes are carried off in broad day light, so how much effect wiil curfew have in cutting down crime?

  2. Curious ? says:

A curfew will only help with some of the crime. The robberies seem to be happening in broad daylight. The people acting out these crimes have “NO” respect for the law much less the people.
Life to them is something cheap and petty and that is how they treat others lives cheap and petty. Parents and families know these persons and they do nothing to stop this. If they truly do not know what is going on with their family members committing these crimes one has to ask how come? On the other hand they know and do not care which makes them as much of the problem as the person committing the crimes. It is going to take a whole lot more than a curfew to stop this madness going on!

  3. leon guild says:

not sure if it will curb the level of violence though I am optimistic but i am in full support of it.

  4. Bulba Martinez says:

Imposing curfew can be the first phase in curbing crime but, it should be done nationwide to avoid the idiots from moving into different areas that has not being contaminated as much as Afganistan Belize City. For this plan to be enforced and effective, we need to utilize the services of our BDF along with all Law Enforcement Officers regardless of their ranks. There will be some citizens that will complain, but they will get over it like everything else. Of course we’ll have people that are working night shifts. Well, the Officers will check their I.D’s, wirte down where and what time individual(s) were stopped, direction of work area or final destination, and official will then notify officials patrolling within proximity of destination. GOB has to inform our Citizens that if caught without I.D. during curfew hours that he/she will be detained. Just my suggestion and I hope it will be helpful. Hopefully it will deter some of these ruthless thugs from committing these heinious crimes.

  5. drummy says:

If juveniles are the ones committing the crimes in Belize why not ?

  6. Rex says:

A curfew would indeed aid in creating some optimism, but in reality things are only going to get much, much worse. Personally, at this point in the world, there is nothing really that can be done to stop this wave of crime, but expect the worst and hope for the best. It is not being negative, it is being realistic, just take a look on our “future” the youth, the police force, the government etc. and for those of you faith lovers out there, read the last book of your bible.

  7. baby D says:

I think that definitely curfew will pipe down the crime wave because in that way everybody have a certain time to get in and once they are found out of the time zone that is created they get a stiff penalty either some months in jail or a 1000.00 dollars fine . The only person that can boycott the curfew is the people that have to go to work got to put belize on a lock down for a while the crime is out of control.
I remember they did that when i was younger and it help a whole lot.

  8. Concerned Grigalizean says:

Is this the first time we’re hearing about “Curfew?” NOOOO…why bother stirring this up when we know well that it won’t be properly implemented or enforced. People know the responsible parties da lone talk so they take everything as a joke.

  9. Branch Baby says:

While a curfew would give the feeling of opression by the authorities, the penalties should not be severe. The information gathered would be more rewarding since the police would have a better understanding of who are roaming the streets and where they are roaming so they have an idea where to look in the event of future crimes. In other words, collect the data and do good police work to document every “violater” picked up. They may not be doing something bad at that time but they may have a hand in past crimes and possibly future crimes.

  10. DarknLovely says:

It will indeed curb crime, however, we ought not to expect it to STOP crime. We should atleast implement it for a short (test) period just to see how it goes and to see if it is sumthing we want to permanently implement. I say go curfew way, it is proven to work!

  11. SO DISAPPOINTED says:

Doing something is better than doing NOTHING. Lets try everything, something will work…..

  12. Marion.V.Hernandez says:

YES I think imposing a cur few will help curve crime. This will decrease the “night ponderers” as so to speak from committing less crime as Police force should be patrolling the streets making sure no one is out and especially bringing a halt to nightly criminal activities.

  13. Bulba Martinez says:

Concerned Grigalizean I admire your energy but, if we all work together with the same energy that you have and use it in a positive way to help implement a curfew or anything else for the safety of Griga and our Beloved Country, then you can count me in, trust me. I use to write about things of this nature in the “Wabagari Post” because of the love that I have for my District and my Country. We the citizens of Griga need to request a forum with our local Law Enforcement Officials, our Area Reps, our local Medical Officials, and our Mayor. If they refuse to do this, then we use the media to embarras them. After all it is also for their safety and the safety of their loved ones. We the people of Belize have to be the ones to take back our country from the idiots that are destroying us. We know for a fact that the Police cannot do it by themselves, so we need to work with them. Concerned, “The past is the past” and that’s water under the bridge, it never hurts to try again. From my end, I will confront our Mayor with our concern and I’m pretty sure he will work with us, so keep up the FAITH and energy ok Concerned?. Love ya Griga, Ayo.

  14. Maud says:

As Manford said, most of the crime happen in broad day light, what we need is extra activities, sports and job to keep these young people occupy and to help them have a sense of accomplishment.

  15. Maud from Chicago says:

Yes Rex, you are right… It is not His will that none should perish, but guess what? a lot will…It is all about choice…

  16. mark says:

If our Leaders arn’t example why will the tuffy’s do so. What bze needs is a change
of the Gov. memebers. Wake -up!

  17. Darius Martinez says:

Imposing a curfew is not the sole answer to this madness but at least it is a start; however appropriate measures need to be put in place to prevent those who are involved in commiting these crimes from exiting the city to repeat it in other areas of the country. The three jackings in Dangriga might have been a direct result of this new initiative. I would like to suggest as part of their punishment, the criminals should be made to report their whereabouts on a weekly or a biweekly basis to the law enforcement authorities, this might seem farfetched but something needs to be done to at least have an idea where they usually hang out, if they change address they need to report that as well. Perhaps it is time that a data base be implemented to assist in tracking them.

  18. Concerned Grigalizean says:

@ Bulba…my hope is always for the better…so far our Beautiful Dangriga is fairly quiet and the incidents here and there should keep us inline not to sit on our butts and take our safety for granted. I’m just one who is tired of hearing talk and NO action. I myself do my part…when I’m driving around and night and I see kids out too late where they shouldn’t be I call in to the station and report it. They busy hustling from bar owners to quench their thirst for liquor instead of patroling as they should.

I have to say that lately it’s been a little better but their response need to get better.

I do agree that something is better than nothing…I DO AGREE WITH THE CURFEW…it would help overall but parents need to do their damn part too!!!
