Jamil Betancourt freed; what happens to Coombs murder case?

Another case that seems to be falling apart relates to the Jason Coombs murder. One person who police wanted was Jamil Betancourt who was captured by Orange Walk police on Saturday. American businessman Jason Coombs was assassinated at his construction business last November when a car drove inside the compound and someone inside the vehicle shot and killed him. It is alleged that Betancourt had knowledge or was associated with the getaway car. He has been under the radar ever since the incident occurred and over the weekend a major operation took place in order to apprehend Betancourt. On Saturday, he was found in the San Lorenzo Housing Site area of Orange Walk town in the last house on a dead-end street. He was quietly transported to Belize City where he was held for questioning. Interestingly enough, his capture was not included on any of the police daily reports since Saturday. But Betancourt was released to the streets earlier today and is a free man. The investigation it seems is no closer to apprehending Coombs’ killer or killers.
This is the history of the police in Belize, not surprise at all.
The killers pulled off a hired murder and they got away with it.
The man was hiding ever so long from the law, and all he had to do was showed up at the station and the police would set him free.
Belize city police is a joke , the GOB is a joke ,people need to wake and smell the hot johnny cake and get some sense that if the people of belize don’t start to come together as one and do things for themselves nothing or no type of improvement will get done .
i can kill someone infront of an audience and still still get away with it in Belize…cause at the end of d day Police always say because of lack of evidence d suspect could not be detained….what a way to be recognized by the world…not for the country’s natural beauty it has to offer..the beauty serves us no purpose if we do not have security for ourselves and for visitors alike

Here we go again another smoke screen. Betancourt was picked up for the murder of a US businessman, jason coombs, spent a few hours at CIB “Holiday Inn” and was released to go and kill a few more Belizeans. Betancourt is a killing machine he has never met a murder he did not love. Belizeans go on the internet and see how the rest of the world watches and shake their heads in dis-belief. Its difficult to feel any sympathy for a country that its citizens just sit in their …. and think that divine intervention will solve problems God helps those who help themselves. Your government has already surrendered to the drug cartels, the gangs and the police death squad. Brace yourselves the worse is yet to come The PM is now out of the country, good timing, maybe he is looking for a civilized country to make his quick get-away when his term is over

An eclipse of law and order in Belize, a very sad state of affairs, Wake up Belizeans a change must come. Barrow, Perdomo and Jeffries must go.
And now WHAT are we going to do about it? @elaine/all: I appreciate your point of view BUT as we all sit here, myself included, waxing lyrical about the wrongs and wrongs of Belize, WHAT are we going to do? WHAT are any of you prepared to do? Tell me? I wager that NOT one of you is willing to do what you may want to see done to these criminal murders roaming our streets with impunity. Absent law enforcement, Forensic Evidence gathering and a robust DPP and Judiciary, WHAT do we DO? Even if we make a !!!LIST!!, what do we do? As law enforcement currently stands, its almost hopelessly crippled and absent a safe process to Justice we are left watching the absolutely guilty walk free REpeATDLY. What are we willing to do? What about the people behind the man with the trigger? What action would you support and what if it was done by someone other than Police? My fellow Belizeans, next time it could be you!!!

UN-……… – BELIEVEABLE !!!!!!! I have been planning to take a vaction and all I have ever heard is Belize is the place to go. I started to investigate it. Belize is only a place to if you lke to gamble with your life. All the news has to offer is Murder Gangs and Drugs. I’ll be vactioning some where else where human life is appreciated. I think Belize tourism slogan should read Why go to Las Vegas and gamble you money Come to Belize and Gamble with your LIFE!!!!!!
