Cop returns to duty after interdiction; but where are the rogue cops?

Jermaine Hyde

Jermaine Hyde

Where is the ring of rogue cops? That is what everyone has been asking ever since the Prime Minister and the Commissioner of Police held a joint press conference on March thirty-first. One police officer was charged, but three were put on interdiction and there were reports that other officers would fall from grace. Constable Jermaine Hyde Jr., Corporal Mark Young of the Criminal Investigative Branch, and Corporal Longsworth of the Anti-Gang unit were all placed on interdiction on April sixth. Today Hyde reported back to work today, but he was transferred to Belmopan from Belize City. So why is Hyde on active duty? And why were he and the other two cops placed on interdiction in the first place? Those answers have still not been revealed by the police department. The only cop charged after the sensational news of the ring of rogue cops is Constable Jermaine Mangar, who was arraigned for attempted robbery with a firearm and conspiracy to commit robbery of Chon Saan Palace.  The robbery did not occur and Mangar’s attorney, Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley said that he only went to collect funds from a man who owed him money.

I do not want these ugly, dirty cops working nor living in Belmopan, just like I would prefer that people from the city do not move to Belmopan either. Belmopan is such a safe place to raise family, and the crime rate is next to zero and I do not want my city to be infested with these no good cops.

I would like the people of Belmopan to start a protests against sending dirty cops to work in Belmopan, he has already committed his dirty deeds elsewhere keep him in that same area, hopefully criminals like himself will make the end of him there, do not send him to Belmopan I do not want any of my Belmopanneese to fall victim to these crooked cops.

  2. BELIZEAN PRIDE says:

well let the Belmopan branch dep. refuse to accept him in the job. he’ll spoil the reputation they have in belmopan. can’t they do that?

  3. baby D says:

Well of course they are going to return back to duty interdiction is just a time out period to let you know you have been bad and let you feel how it is when there is no money in your pocket. And to let the public feel that they did do something to that policeman but thats about it.

  4. ????? says:

Firstly, the Minister of Security and the Commissioner must be replaced. Secondly, this Government should consider developing a secret society with the main objective of scrutinizing all policemen and creating a profile of each. All those policemen that do not abide by such requirements must be immediately terminated! Once policemen know that they are secretly supervised, they will behave appropriately.

Thirdly, the Government should secure an initial 100 acres of land good for agriculture. All unemployed males above sixteen years of age should be quarantined at this location. This will ensure that they have something useful to do. In addition, kids will rather strive for an education than see their futures as a farmer. Furthermore, we all know that Belize needs fruits and vegetables!

This young people have absolutely nothing to do yet they want to live good. They don’t know how hard we work for our money. Since they have nothing to do, they are open to mischief.

To hell with human rights! Don’t you see that this is causing more bad than good! Kolbe spoils prison inmates…they have to treat these guys in a way that they will never want to come back. I recall a friend, all skinny and looked defenseless but after three years in prison, this guy came out buff and looking dangerous with a higher self esteem but to mischief.

We the people have to pressure this stagnant Government. They knew that it wouldn’t be easy! With their current performance, I don’t see the need for a Government. Why pay salaries to an employee that does nothing. I rather use my tax money and pay someone to fix the street in front of my house and pay a security guard. Atleast I know it will be done…and well done!

I think ????? has some very good points. The problem is that if this secret society was created (if it doesn’t already exist) instead of gathering inteligence on the police they would use it (history has shown) to check on what the leader of the opposition and others are doing. Yes we all might agree that we have to put pressure on GOB but how do we go about doing that. I believe that all the marches for peace, peaceful protest down the street, etc do nothing, so again how to we put pressure and get heard. lastly I think that we all are just to upset about the crime situation that we blame the ones at the bottom of the ladder – the police. In this current state believe me that none of us who are critical of them would want to be a police officer. Underpaid, overworked, expected to do anything. A dispute between husband and wife, the police – hey they are not social workers. An accident down the road – the police first – hey they are not paramedics. Missing money at City Hall – the police – hey they are not accountants. So the strain these men and women carry is too much. Yes they opted for the job but when you spend tireless hours way past your shift because of a late minute incident just to have case thrown out – who wouldn’t feel disrespected and frustrated. I have seen kids (13, 14) giving trouble on the streets and when police come by they have no respect they curse they police till you can’t imagine. Who to blame? the ones at the top of the ladder – the ministers. Yes we need sporting facilities but instead of securing millions for a 1st class basketball court why not secure it for a 1st class forensic lab and 1st class forensic personnel. Second, change the law that a case cannot be thrown out because of a technicality. What if the police forgot to tell you you are under arrest. Well F*** that is obvious if they just caught you burglarizing a premise. That does not change the fact. What if police did not use a warrant and found 100K of cocain in your car – that does not change the fact yet lawyers get their defendants outs because of these stupid technicalities. Stop blaming the police. Or if you can do a better job then you become the police. Blame the boss. We all know who they are.

I always like to read Maddyvandijk comments cause I think they make sense but this one I think is overboard. I would believe that there are so many bads you have done but of course you are not (I suppose) a public figure or a celebrity so they are not known. That does not make you perfect but I guess it makes you proud to be the first to throw the first stone. I hope that when you all are in need of a police officer he is not then one to respond and put his life in the line for you, that would be so ironic. This world is always revolving. Instead of protesting about this officer coming to work in Belmopan why don’t you protest – go ahead with hunger strike at least – against government and judicial policies that have our country they way it is. protest to have human rights reviewed – hek this is the like the 1st law these criminals bring up. I know we are all frustrated but police can’t change they system and with moral down I can see how they are frustrated just like you and me and yes they are humans just like you and me. Let us all stop blaming them and blame the boss. Police officers are fighting daily like you and me, hand to mouth when Mr Barrow and Co have buffet morning, noon and night.

To be honest with you, I think the whole police squad need fi get some training, unuh. The real skills, tactics, knowledge, are all needed for us to move on. Of course that includes the Government, I believe this will alleviate the phrase “I don’t know at this time”…ediots. The government does not seem to know how to conduct their jobs, nobody seems to care about their livelihood and how it affect others, all they know is that they are getting paid. The prime minister needs to man up and grow some balls and remove neh bally yah from neh post, but he nuh di trip he eat good everynight. The future prime minister needs to be elected from the roots of the city, nuh no pretty boi weh nuh no bout haad time man. This is the only way the individual will actually understand how the system work.

The economy is in bad shape, I think what we really need is aid from other countries (educated personnel) to come in and reform and propose new agendas, cause our Government skills and knowledge are way below average.

Governor General dah wah next waist…..seh something to the Queen breda, make something happen. I can’t recall the last time the GG step up and do something fu belizeans, besides wah lee art house. We nuh got time fi watch no art breda, yo di waste yo time.

I do not live in Belize, but I do have family and friends still living there, probably the only reason why I bother reading the news. My family and friends are working hard, and doing honest jobs, and it would not take very much for them to fall victims to crooked cops in the system, or criminals from the kennels of Belize City.

If I live in Belize I would be protesting against all that I am against, I would be fighting for women’s right and violence against children and I would be the leader of the elimination squad as well. This sounds like options with real possibilities to me.
The man should not be sent elsewhere to do the same dirty job he should be kicked out of the force, not put to sit on the naughty stool.

With so many dirty cops, and corruptions in Belize I would never call the police for help, but I am suggesting that the people from Belmopan living in there now should start protesting.
Who else should we blame for their crimes, the GOB, the Queen of England? You are thinking about the big picture here, but that kind of change do not happen overnight, perhaps in another life time, but until then we the Belizeans have to protest or shamed the police or government into start acting like out masters and start acting like our slaves.

  10. Ocaso says:

Let’s take a page from the Mexican government; I believe Mexico’s case can be applied to us even though we’re smaller in size and population. When Calderon noticed that the police were rotten to the core he started firing everyone from the top brass down and built up back the force from scratch. In the mean time the military is helping out the police in streets so they can have their hands free to do more investigative work. I bet you all that if Westby and Jeffries had to start wondering were their next meal was coming from that we’d see near instant results in terms of less corruption within the force. Where there is no fear of penalty there is no justice.
The next thing is that I am in agreement with rightous on the point about ammending legislation. A few countries in the Caribbean are already drafting laws that allow a case to proceed irrespective of whether the victim(s) chooses to testify or not, and they’re doing it because they’re as up to their neck in crime as we are. We have to learn from those around us, Belize is not an island in any sense and there ARE countries out there that have cleaned up their police force with success.

maddyvandijk….. Come to Belize and put some action behind your words…..We need people like you here…. or you are no better than whom you write about. Talk talk talk…..

In my opinion these so called “Police and BDF” are a waste of tax payers money…the only training they have is how to hustle citizens and drink RUM…New Administration is what we need so that they are made to do their jobs!!!

It is surprizing to me that people could behave as ignorant as these comments portray. Some of your comments are suggestive of Police Officers getting hurt, but you have not stopped to think that they may have been wrongfully accused. Know your facts before you speak.
