Win major cash writing poems in Spanish

The Embassy of Mexico has announced the opening of an international children’s poetry competition. It is a contest aimed at encouraging children to  read from as early in life as possible. But it’s not the kids that will be participating; the writers are being asked to submit a collection of original children’s poems, ten to fifty pages long and it must be in Spanish. If you’re thinking that’s a lot of work, wait until you hear the cash prize that’s involved. The Cultural Attaché at the Mexican Embassy says the winning entry also gets published by the FCE in Mexico.

“Mexico is having an international competition for poetry, for children. It’s an international competition; I think every year we have this kind of competition. It’s for poetry in Spanish for children and if people are interested in this competition, they can come here to the institute of Mexico for the application and help about the competition. Now it’s open and I on June fifth, it’s closed.”

“So all the entries must be in Spanish?”

“Yeah, it’s in Spanish.”

“And what kind of prize can they win?”

“Yeah, we have a prize in cash of about thirty-two thousand Belize dollars.”

“So what are they looking for in these poems? It can be a poem about anything?”

“Yeah, it’s like to make an important book in Mexico with the work in Spanish for all the world to enjoy poetry for children.”

The winner of the Poetry for Children International Hispano-American Prize will be named in October.
