Housing Minister Michael Finnegan recovering in Detroit

Housing Minister Michael Finnegan has been out of the limelight and the political scene for the past month. Finnegan is in Detroit, Michigan, fighting for his good health and recovering from surgery for prostate cancer. He was diagnosed recently and decided to let the public become aware of his battle. His wife, Dianne, told News Five this afternoon that it is still a struggle; however Finnegan should be back in the country by next week Friday.

“He’s doing much better, so much better that he called earlier this morning to say that he may be coming home next week. He went through some little discomforts between yesterday and this morning, but the doctor is very optimistic about it and feels that he is going to be in the clear very, very soon.  So he’s scheduled to come home next week Friday.”

“And will he be in the same great condition as he is in the House of Rep., doing what he does best on the hill?”

“That’s the amazing part, I think this has been a drastic change in his life, mentally, emotionally. He falls into little stages of depression every now and again. It is basically because he went through major surgery. The fact that he was diagnosed with cancer and knowing what cancer is all about, I think had a heavy burden on him. Even though he’s been given the all clear that the procedure that was done, really took care of eliminating that cancer portion of it, It’s still there mentally.  So for me the comfort and support of his friends and family and the people who love him, the people within his constituency whom he talks about daily, is really going to get him to the level that he was before.”

“So we’ll see him playing feech by Brad’s sometime soon.”

Dianne Finnegan

“Yes, but I don’t think for the long hours that he used to be out there. I must say his motivation, his contentment that his family is there with him; his daughter is there by his side, which was one of the things he wanted more than anything else.”

Dianne Finnegan says that there are two doctors living at the home he is staying, and he receives well wishes online through his daughter’s Facebook account.
