After being shot by cop, wife of victim says he’s doing better

stephen buckley

Stephen Buckley was shot by a police officer on April twenty-eighth when he and a friend were pulled over because their vehicle resembled one that was involved in a previous shooting. It caused public outrage because Buckley was shot more than once and police claimed it was an accident; a story that not many believed. Buckley is still at the K.H.M.H. recovering and that’s where we met his common-law-wife Juanita Juarez today. She says he is coming along slowly and just today he was able to eat solid food for the first time since the incident. According to Juanita, he has lost a significant amount of weight.

“So far the doctor says only one bullet remains in his head, but it’s too far deep that they can’t remove it. But he can live with it doctor says.”

“Do you have any idea how much longer he will have to stay here?”

Juanita Juarez

“No idea, doctor says that until he is strong enough, when he feels strong enough then he can go home. But right now he is just sitting up; he cannot sit on his own well.”

Delahnie Bain

“So then he can’t walk or anything.”

Juanita Juarez

“No, he still can’t move his right leg, but he just started to move his right fingers.”

Delahnie Bain

“Alright, have the doctors told you if this partial paralysis will be permanent or he will get over that?”

Juanita Juarez

“He said that it will take a while for him to show progress so he believes that he will walk again. Today they removed his feeding tube and he can eat on his own now. And today he asked for rice and beans and I got him a plate of rice and beans and he ate today.”

Delahnie Bain

“I’m sure this must be difficult for you and I know you spend a lot of time here now, how have you been coping?”

Juanita Juarez

“I just started to feel relief because there were, any nights I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t eat, as you can see. I just started to feel that ease right now because all this while I couldn’t eat and couldn’t sleep.”

Delahnie Bain

“How have you and his family been handling the financial burden?”

Juanita Juarez

“Well, the police say that they will pay the bills and that they will help me in whatever they can. But so far all that they gave me is two weeks groceries. That’s all and they said that this week they were coming to me with money but so far I haven’t gotten anything.”

  2. Jo Th says:

I think that the public need to be educated about their right and start suing for things like this especially coming from public workers such as the police officers and GOB.

I think these police officers should be PROPERLY trained before putting them out on the streets!

Its time ppl start suing so they can start getting the time of the day!
