Administration of deceased’s estate moving slow; family upset
Daniel Alford passed away in April 2007 and left everything he owned to be shared among his six children. That included money for one hundred and three acres of land that he sold for two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. But after Daniel passed away, the buyers Belize Goat and Sheep Ranch Limited wrote—via Attorney Hubert Elrington—to his children saying that they will be doing business only with the administrator of the estate. The letter also said that they would speed up the process to have Daniel’s children named as the administrators. Three years later, the family claims it is still being given the runaround to have the land transferred to them and they haven’t been paid anything for the property. After being told for the umpteenth time that the papers are at the registry, one of Daniel’s daughters, Ethnelda Alford, came to our studios frustrated and ready to make their plight public.
Ethnelda Alford, Daughter of Daniel Alford
“Di issue wid mi father land is dat mi father died the eighteenth of April 2007 and before he dead ih do wah will fi—because ih di sell di land right—dat when ih dead dat we collect di money weh fi mi collect fi di land. Afta ih dead, di land lef in di charge ah Mister Elrington because dah he di work fi di white man weh mi di buy di land. Dehn noh pay nothing and dehn live pan di land already. Dehn live pan it before he dead and dehn got it clean down and dehn have goat and sheep I think—I mi si di goat dehn I noh know if dehn have sheep now—and dehn have it cut down. Dehn done cut down di fruit trees and dehn noh pay nothing towards it. nothing dehn no pay because my pa, dehn mi fi pay he half di amount den he mi fi move off ah di land den inna five years inna installments dehn mi wah pay di rest.”
Delahnie Bain
“So now you’re afraid that this five years will lapse and they won’t finish paying.”
Ethnelda Alford
“Yes, di five years wah up and den di place noh transfer inna none ah fi we name. ih deh inna my pa name still yet.”
Delahnie Bain
“So what are you trying to get done now?”
Ethnelda Alford
“Di administration because dat dah di thing we di keep it because my bredda mek he weh di work fi di same white man di fix it or something like dat fi he.”
Delahnie Bain
“Since he worked on the will for your brother, he is representing both sides?”
Ethnelda Alford
“Well, dat dah weh I would ah want mek—dat’s I come yah because I would ah want find out weh di go on if dah dat dah weh he di do.”
Elrington refused to comment on the matter.

Same reason, I SAID BEFORE, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS IN HIGH POSITIONS SHOULD NOT BE REPRESENTING ANYONE WHILE HOLDING PUBLIC OFFICE. THEY BECOME HIRED ATTORNEYS AND WILL DO ANYTHING FOR THE MONEY. THIS PRACTICE SHOULD BE STOPPED.
Ethnelda, why you noh sit down with you family members, appoint wa Administrator, and decide fi retain wa attorney fi file wa “Letter Of Administration” fi unu?. If unu can’t afford di attorney, den try find one whe willing fi work wid unu through wa “Contengency Contract” wid adequate stipulations, meaning dat ih wa get pay when unu get pay fi di property or get back unu property. I know fi sure dat di attorney wa get paid from whatever stipulation ih put eena di contract, just mek sure dat unu both agree wid di stipulations ok. Unu Lawyer wa do wa thorough title search and dehn prepare all di necessary documents fi mek unu sign, because di “Letter Of Administration” still have to be filed anyway. Di rest ah di work is very technical, dats why you have to retain wa attorney. If Mr. Elrington noh want cooperate wid unu, which legally, ih noh hafto, because ih noh di represent unu ok, so noh goh down da road again if unu di wait fi soh long.. Unu goh da Registry and get unu Pa Death Certificate and put it along wid copy ah unu “Will” regarding distribution ah di money. Too much chanciness di goh on, soh unu have to be very careful. Maybe unu could try find wa Paralegal who could help unu to, but please noh give up. If you Bredda de in cahoots wid anything or anybody, unu wa definetely know, but fi right now, give ah di benefit ah di doubt. After all Blood thicker dan water. I hope that I’m of help to you and your family my Dear. Good luck and God Bless.
Shame on Elrington! We should fight for each other, but help the white man steal! Slavery was abolished centuries ago . Don’t let them get away with it.
I must say that I am close to this case and know that the First contribution was paid and The “White Man” is up to keeping his end of the deal. This is a legally binding agreement between Mr. Alford, “White man”, and the manager. As for the money’s to be shared amongst the children, it is being done, please ask your brother to be transparent. The process was implemented and executed. Your family needs to get you in D’Loop.
Bulba You seem fi know a lil bit bout land issues how sombady could get in touch with you fi ask some questions.
Frustrated, I noh know if di media wa allow wi fi exchange personal info, but maybe you could find out if you could get mi email address from di media, you have my permission fi do dat if allowed ok. My mission eena life da fi help POOR people like miself if a could di best way I know how. If a noh know Frustrated, trust me, I know whe fi goh fi find out fi you. Been there done dat.
Mr. B.M. I no know anybody ina this case but God bless you fih help other Belizeans, I wish more of us would help one another like this more often.
Bulba sound like a lawyer .. no mek I ketch you cuz I got no love for you …
Bulba Tony look like he mad becaue you answer my qestion. If Tony wa mek I ask he some questions he just have to give me permission to ask fi get fi he email address that all. And the question tha bout some land. So any help is accepted. Bulba I wa see if I could get the permission Thanks.
Tony, LOVE is the answer my friend. I personally noh know you and I would never hurt you in anyway, fashion or form, trust me. Most of us cannot afford to retain an attorney to help us and it’s quite honoring moreso a BLESSING when we can help each other in GOOD TIMES OR BAD. We as POOR BELIZEANS are on our own while the “HAVES” flourish and bloom. Soh Tony, if you straight and honest, dehn you gawn clayer. If not, dehn da noh between me and you, da between you and GOD.
